Book Biorational Control of Arthropod Pests

Download or read book Biorational Control of Arthropod Pests written by Isaac Ishaaya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-28 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly 50 years, pest control was mostly based on broad-spectrum conv- tional insecticides such as organochlorines, organophosphates, carbamates and pyrethroids. However, the severe adverse effects of pesticides on the environment, problems of resistance reaching crisis proportions and public protests led to stricter regulations and legislation aimed at reducing their use. Ways to reduce the use of synthetic pesticides in plant protection and to use more alternative and novel me- ods for pest control or biorational control are the challenges of pest control for the twenty-first century. The term biorational (biological + rational) pesticides can be defined as the use of specific and selective chemicals, often with a unique modes of action, that are compatible with natural enemies and the environment, with minimal effect on n- target organisms. Biorational control is based on a diversity of chemical, biological and physical approaches for controlling insect pests which results in minimum risk to man and the environment.

Book Technological Innovations in Integrated Pest Management Biorational and Ecological Perspective

Download or read book Technological Innovations in Integrated Pest Management Biorational and Ecological Perspective written by D.P. Abrol and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human population is growing rapidly, disproportionate to food supply, which necessitate production of more volume of food in the near future. The reliance on insecticides for quick and dramatic results was not totally free from adverse effects. This book intends to fill the gap by providing a critical analysis of different management strategies that have a bearing on agriculture, sustainability, and environmental protection. This book emphasizes the management strategies with evaluation of each strategy in the bigger picture of ecologically driven pest management. This book includes 24 chapters, which cover ecological and biorational basis of pest management, integrated pest and disease management, crop breeding for resistance, use of entomopathogenic nematodes and other agents, remote sensing, biosecurity issues, risk to biodiversity by exotic species, new and emerging pests of horticultural crops, saffron and stored grains, the role of extension technologies in dissemination of IPM and, future challenges and strategies. The book is aimed to serve as reference book for teachers, researchers, extension officers, and policy makers associated with IPM. This book can also be used as supplementary reading material in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. This book provides a multidisciplinary IPM perspective to entomologists, plant pathologists, extension educationists, anthropologist and economists.

Book excerpt: This book presents an overview of the Pentatomidae species, covering their biology, phylogeny and reproductive behavior, main plants used in their diet and their nutritional exigencies, predatory stinkbugs, interactions between herbivores-plants and natural enemies, use of pheromone for monitoring phytophagous populations, and chemical and vibrational communication signals. It also presents possible technologies to be applied in field crops for pest management that could be developed as the basis of the interplay of stink bug communication signals.

Book Biorational Pest Control Agents

Download or read book Biorational Pest Control Agents written by Franklin R. Hall and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1995-07-27 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offers a multi-discipline focus on new and emerging pest control technology. Identifies critical needs of formulation and novel delivery systems for the baculoviruses, bacteria, fungi, pheromones, hormones, and nematodes which are being advocated for agricultural and forest pest management strategies. Provides a reference for biorational agents currently used to control agricultural and forestry pests. Addresses the registration and data requirements for environmental pest control agents.

Book Handbook of Natural Pesticides Methods

Download or read book Handbook of Natural Pesticides Methods written by N. Bhushan Mandava and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook series includes several naturally occurring chemicals that exhibit biological activity. These chemicals are derived from plants, insects, and several microorganisms. Volume I of this series is covers the theory and practice of the strategies for pest control and methods for detection. Moreover, it presents extensive tables that provide the information you need to select the most appropriate bioassay for a particular plant growth regulator or hormone. In addition to the chapters on bioassays, Volume I provides a solid introduction to the theory and practice of natural pesticide use, including in-depth discussions of integrated management systems for weed and pest control, the state-of-the-art use of computers in pest management, and allelochemicals as natural protection. Guidelines on toxicological testing and EPA regulation of natural pesticides are also detailed.

Book Ecofriendly Pest Management for Food Security

Download or read book Ecofriendly Pest Management for Food Security written by Omkar and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-02-03 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecofriendly Pest Management for Food Security explores the broad range of opportunity and challenges afforded by Integrated Pest Management systems. The book focuses on the insect resistance that has developed as a result of pest control chemicals, and how new methods of environmentally complementary pest control can be used to suppress harmful organisms while protecting the soil, plants, and air around them. As the world’s population continues its rapid increase, this book addresses the production of cereals, vegetables, fruits, and other foods and their subsequent demand increase. Traditional means of food crop production face proven limitations and increasing research is turning to alternative means of crop growth and protection. Addresses environmentally focused pest control with specific attention to its role in food security and sustainability. Includes a range of pest management methods, from natural enemies to biomolecules. Written by experts with extensive real-world experience.

Book ASTM Standard Terminology Related to Biorationals

Download or read book ASTM Standard Terminology Related to Biorationals written by Michael C. White and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in consumer preference about how food is produced are driving increased development and marketing of nontraditional pest control and nutritional products. However, the use of undefined terms such as "biorational," "biostimulant," "bioyield enhancer," "bioplant health promoter," and "biosoil conditioner" to market these products has introduced confusion in the marketplace. An ASTM E-35.22 Subcommittee Task Group has been formed to develop standard definitions in order to eliminate the use of confusing and inconsistent terminology for these types of products.
