Book Bionics by Examples

Download or read book Bionics by Examples written by Werner Nachtigall and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bionics means learning from the nature for the development of technology. The science of "bionics" itself is classified into several sections, from materials and structures over procedures and processes until evolution and optimization. Not all these areas, or only a few, are really known in the public and also in scientific literature. This includes the Lotus-effect, converted to the contamination-reduction of fassades and the shark-shed-effect, converted to the resistance-reduction of airplanes. However, there are hundreds of highly interesting examples that contain the transformation of principles of the nature into technology. From the large number of these examples, 250 were selected for the present book according to "prehistory", "early-history", "classic" and "modern time". Most examples are new. Every example includes a printed page in a homogeneous arrangement. The examples from the field "modern time" are joint in blocks corresponding to the sub-disciplines of bionics.

Book excerpt: The potential of connecting technology between live beings and manufactured items opens up a vista of exciting research. The topic of "bionics" explores the study of mechanical systems that function like living organisms or specific parts of living organisms: that seems straight from scenes of a science fiction tale. But, with each passing day, the connection between technology and biology seems to open up several interesting and sometimes a boon to mankind. The field of bionics encompasses the construction and use of robotic arms that offer relief to the maimed, electrodes reroute nerves to achieve specific pathways, tissue engineering, cochlear implants, artificial hearts to bionic eyes to name a few. Bionics research has also propelled research in the field of aviation and computer science (an interesting field of artificial neural networks). This book shall include the history, research into the field of bionics along with various aspects of the products/technologies that use bionics and the scope of this field of research. Through this book, the editors hope to increase the interest and research in this field to open up vistas in research.

Book Bionic Limb Reconstruction

Download or read book Bionic Limb Reconstruction written by Oskar C. Aszmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the latest techniques in amputation rehabilitation and summarizes the most recent research findings in the field of bionic limb reconstruction. Divided into seven parts written by experts in the field, it provides valuable information on e.g. upper extremity injuries, psychological considerations, prosthetic engineering, and surgical and rehabilitation strategies. Illustrative figures and photos of real-life settings further assist understanding. This book is of interest not only for plastic surgeons, but also for hand surgeons, orthopedic and trauma surgeons as well as therapists, prosthetists and engineers.

Book Bioinspired Structures and Design

Download or read book Bioinspired Structures and Design written by Wole Soboyejo and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-09-17 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master simple to advanced biomaterials and structures with this essential text. Featuring topics ranging from bionanoengineered materials to bio-inspired structures for spacecraft and bio-inspired robots, and covering issues such as motility, sensing, control and morphology, this highly illustrated text walks the reader through key scientific and practical engineering principles, discussing properties, applications and design. Presenting case studies for the design of materials and structures at the nano, micro, meso and macro-scales, and written by some of the leading experts on the subject, this is the ideal introduction to this emerging field for students in engineering and science as well as researchers.

Book The Bionic Human

Download or read book The Bionic Human written by Frank E Johnson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-11-09 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integrated survey of best practices for the management of patients with implanted prosthetic devices and an insightful examination of the epidemiological, societal, and policy issues associated with their use. The devices covered range from breast, penile, vascular, and joint prostheses to cochlear, ossicular, and dental implants, and include cerebrospinal fluid shunts, cardiac valves, stents, and pacemakers. For each device, the authors consider its pros and cons, detail the best current strategies to keep implanted patients healthy, and evaluate the latest and most promising new diagnostic tests, Clinical counterpoints from distinguished authorities at major centers in the United States and Europe are offered throughout. Follow-up recommendations are summarized in a standardized format that allows comparative analysis and lays the foundation for controlled clinical trials and the eventual establishment of evidence-based guidelines.
