Book Biomedical Optical Instrumentation and Laser Assisted Biotechnology

Download or read book Biomedical Optical Instrumentation and Laser Assisted Biotechnology written by A.M. Verga Scheggi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-08-31 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute "Biomedical Optical Instrumentation and Laser Assisted Biotechnology" was held November 10-22, 1995 in Erice, Sicily. This was the 19 th conference organized by the International School of Quantum Electronics, under the auspices of the "Ettore Majorana" Center for Scientific Culture. The contributions presented at the Institute are written as extended, review-like papers to provide a broad and representative coverage of the fields of laser techniques, optoelectronics systems for medical diagnosis, and light and laser applications to Biology and Medicine. The aim of the Institute was to bring together some of the world's acknowledged scientists and clinicians that belong to different disciplines and consequently do not usually meet, but who have as a common link the use of optoelectronics instrumentation, techniques and procedures. Most of the lecturers attended all the lectures and devoted their spare hours to stimulating discussions. We would like to thank them all for their admirable contributions. The Institute also took advantage of a very active audience; most of the participants were active researchers in the field and contributed with discussions and seminars. Some of these seminars are also included in these Proceedings. The Institute was an important opportunity to discuss latest developments and emerging perspectives on the use of laser sources and optoelectronic techniques for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Book Fiber Optic Sensors for Biomedical Applications

Download or read book Fiber Optic Sensors for Biomedical Applications written by Daniele Tosi and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2017-12-31 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative new resource presents fiber optic sensors and their applications in medical device design and biomedical engineering. Readers gain an understanding of which technology to use and adopt, and how to connect technologies with their respective applications. This book explores the innovation of diagnostics and how to use diagnostic tools. Principles of fiber optic sensing are covered and include details about intensity-based sensors, fiber bragg gratings, distributed sensors, and fabry-perot interferometers. This book explores interrogation software, standards for medical sensors, and discusses protocols and tools for validation. Various medical device engineering and applications are examined, including sensor catheterization, cardiovascular sensors, diagnostic in gastroscopy, urology, neurology, sensing in thermal ablation. Applications and detection of SPR sensors are presented, along with minimally invasive robotic surgery, smart textiles, wearable sensors and fiber-optic spectrometric sensors. This is a one-stop reference on fiber optic sensors for biomed applications.

Book Biomedical Imaging Using Fiber Optics

Download or read book Biomedical Imaging Using Fiber Optics written by Andy Yen Hsin Chen and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the instrumentation aspect of biomedical imaging with the use of optical fiber probes across three different disciplines. This includes the design and development of novel fiber optic based techniques and instruments in fields of optical coherence tomography (OCT), bioremediation and optical mapping of cardiac action potentials. A prototype all-fiber OCT system was subsequently constructed to meet the design requirements of combined fluorescence-OCT probes. A novel spectroscopic technique that can monitor bacterial species in-situ was developed. Its capabilities and limitations were demonstrated through a series of laboratory controlled experiments which showed promising preliminary results. A fluorescence setup was developed to make spectroscopic measurement of cardiac action potentials. This technique offered more insights into the complex process of spectral modulation which is usually associated with membrane potential and mechanical activity.

Book Fiber Optic Sensors

Download or read book Fiber Optic Sensors written by Ignacio R. Matias and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes important recent developments in fiber optic sensor technology and examines established and emerging applications in a broad range of fields and markets, including power engineering, chemical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, and environmental monitoring. Particular attention is devoted to niche applications where fiber optic sensors are or soon will be able to compete with conventional approaches. Beyond novel methods for the sensing of traditional parameters such as strain, temperature, and pressure, a variety of new ideas and concepts are proposed and explored. The significance of the advent of extended infrared sensors is discussed, and individual chapters focus on sensing at THz frequencies and optical sensing based on photonic crystal structures. Another important topic is the resonances generated when using thin films in conjunction with optical fibers, and the enormous potential of sensors based on lossy mode resonances, surface plasmon resonances, and long-range surface exciton polaritons. Detailed attention is also paid to fiber Bragg grating sensors and multimode interference sensors. Each chapter is written by an acknowledged expert in the subject under discussion.
