Book Fungal diversity ecology and control management

Download or read book Fungal diversity ecology and control management written by Vijay Rani Rajpal and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-02 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume provides comprehensive and latest information on the fungal biodiversity in its morphological characters, bioactive molecules, pathogenicity and virulence, and its impacts on crop production and sustainable management of agricultural productivity towards resolving global food security issues. The increasing number of infectious fungal diseases are regarded as threats to agricultural productivity and global food security. The efforts done by scientists to inventories the fungal diversity and identification of fungal species contributing as pathogens towards many plant and human diseases have been compiled in the present volume. The identification of the potential fungal pathogens is a prerequisite for an effective disease control management program. Also important is to understand the complex interactions between the host-pathogen and the environment. The book dwells on insights on the aforementioned aspects. The book also includes articles on ecological significance of fungi and fungal antagonists used as biocontrol agents on other pathogens. This compilation is useful to scientists working in similar areas as well as to undergraduate and graduate students keen on getting updated information on the subject. Scientists involved in agricultural research, crop management, and industries that manufacture agrochemicals may also find it useful read.

Book Smut Fungi of the World

Book excerpt: "This outstanding book is an essential tool in helping the scientific community to identify smut fungi everywhere. It includes keys to the genera and species and a host plant-smut fungus list and compiles more than 3,500 micrographs and line drawings into a single sourcebook. This nearly 1,500-page treatise is authored by the worldwide authority on the subject, Dr. Kálmán Vánky, who has spent more than 50 years collecting and describing smut fungi species. The book provides complete and detailed presentations of species in 93 genera through descriptions and illustrations. The book updates our knowledge of valid scientific names and synonyms and provides taxonomic references and the host plant range of each species. Dr. Vánky's passion for the topic shines through on every page through the excellent illustrations and detailed descriptions which complement each other to make identification easier. Having all content in a single volume allows the reader to flip back and forth between similar looking fungi for detailed comparison and analysis"--Pub. desc.

Book European Smut Fungi

Download or read book European Smut Fungi written by Kálmán Vánky and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smut fungi (Ustilaginales) are important plant parasites. This book comprises, for the first time, the knowledge about the 400 known smut fungi from Europe. For these 400 species and for further 70, still unknown smuts from Europe, detailed descriptions are given. 82 doubtful or excluded taxa are also presented. The descriptions are completed by 220 drawings of diseased plants and by more than 770 microphotographs of the spores seen in LM, SEM or TEM. Keys to genera and species, a host plant/smut fungus index, together with the descriptions and illustrations, make an easy identification of these plant parasites possible. For economically important smut diseases short control measures are also given. This book will prove an invaluable reference source and standard work for all mycologists, phytopathologists and botanists who intend to identify smut fungi and work with them.

Book Management of Fungal Plant Pathogens

Download or read book Management of Fungal Plant Pathogens written by Arun Arya and published by CABI. This book was released on 2010 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of our current knowledge of some plant-pathogen interactions in economically important crops, emphasizing the importance of pathogenic fungi on fruits, cereals, postharvest crops and the establishment of plant diseases and drawing together fundamental new information on their management strategies based on conventional and eco-friendly methods, with an emphasis on the use of microorganisms and various biotechnological aspects of agriculture, which could lead to sustainability in modern agriculture. The book examines the role of microbes in growth promotion, as bioprotectors and bioremediators, and presents practical strategies for using microbes in sustainable agriculture. In addition, the use of botanicals vis-a-vis chemical pesticides is also reviewed. Contributions on new research fields such as mycorrhizas and endophytes are included. The book also examines in different chapters host-pathogen interactions in the light of the new tools and techniques of molecular biology and genetics.

Download or read book Systematics and Evolution written by David J. McLaughlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mycology, the study of fungi, originated as a subdiscipline of botany and was a des criptive discipline, largely neglected as an experimental science until the early years of this century. A seminal paper by Blakeslee in 1904 provided evidence for self incompatibility, termed "heterothallism", and stimulated interest in studies related to the control of sexual reproduction in fungi by mating-type specificities. Soon to follow was the demonstration that sexually reproducing fungi exhibit Mendelian inheritance and that it was possible to conduct formal genetic analysis with fungi. The names Burgetf, Kniep and Lindegren are all associated with this early period of fungal genet ics research. These studies and the discovery of penicillin by Fleming, who shared a Nobel Prize in 1945, provided further impetus for experimental research with fungi. Thus began a period of interest in mutation induction and analysis of mutants for biochemical traits. Such fundamental research, conducted largely with Neurospora crassa, led to the one gene: one enzyme hypothesis and to a second Nobel Prize for fungal research awarded to Beadle and Tatum in 1958. Fundamental research in biochemical genetics was extended to other fungi, especially to Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and by the mid-1960s fungal systems were much favored for studies in eukaryotic molecular biology and were soon able to compete with bacterial systems in the molecular arena.
