Book Review of Colour Removal Technology in the Pulp and Paper Industry

Download or read book Review of Colour Removal Technology in the Pulp and Paper Industry written by R. J. Rush and published by Water Pollution Control Directorate : Supply and Services Canada. This book was released on 1976 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pulp and paper industry produces large volumes of effluent containing, among other things, dark brown lignin and lignin degradation products. The exact nature of the chromophoric (colour causing) groups in the wastes and the effects of these colour bodies on the aquatic environment are not known. However, developmental work on several processes for colour reduction has reached full scale application and colour removal is now required in many local areas for various reasons. Colour reduction can be achieved by either technical changes within the mill or by effluent treatment systems. In-plant modification can range from simple, inexpensive measures such as pulp washing and better "housekeeping" practices, to complex technological changes such as implementation of oxygen bleaching. While in-plant changes should be considered and implemented as a first preference, external treatment may often still be required. There are a large number of external treatment methods which are known to be technically feasible for colour removal from pulp and paper mill effluents.

Book INDUSTRIAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT

Download or read book INDUSTRIAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT written by A. D. PATWARDHAN and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2008-05-07 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All industrial production processes generate waste waters, which can pollute water bodies into which they are discharged without adequate treatment. It is, therefore, essential to treat such wastes and eliminate their harmful effects on the environment. This book discusses sources, characteristics and treatment of waste waters produced in industries such as textiles, dairy, tanneries, pulp and paper, fertilizer, pesticide, organic and inorganic chemicals, engineering and fermentation. Many flow diagrams have been included to illustrate industrial processes and to indicate the sources of waste water in such processes. After describing treatment for individual factories, the author discusses the more advanced and economical common effluent plants. The text uses simple and straightforward language and makes the presentation attractive. This book should prove extremely useful to undergraduate students of civil and chemical engineering and postgraduate students of environmental science and engineering. Industrial design consultants will also find the book very handy. To the Greens, it may offer some of the solutions to their concerns.

Book Membrane and Membrane Based Processes for Wastewater Treatment

Download or read book Membrane and Membrane Based Processes for Wastewater Treatment written by Maulin P. Shah and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proposed book mainly sorts out emerging and burning issues faced day to day by municipal and industrial wastewater treatments. It also provides a comprehensive view of recent advances in hybrid treatment technologies for wastewater treatment, addresses the current limitations and challenges of applying these tools in wastewater treatment systems. This book gives an insight about recent developments in membrane technology for wastewater treatment. Industrial wastewater contains a large variety of compounds, such as heavy metals, salts and nutrients, which makes its treatment challenging. Thus, the use of conventional water treatment methods is not always effective. In this sense, membrane-based hybrid processes have emerged as a promising technology to treat complex industrial wastewater. The present book analyses and discusses the potential of membrane-based hybrid processes for the treatment of complex industrial wastewater along with the recovery of valuable compounds and water reutilization. In addition, recent and future trends in membrane technology are highlighted. FEATURES The properties, mechanisms, advantages, limitations and promising solutions of different types of membrane technologies are discussed The optimization of process parameters is addressed The performance of different membranes is described The potential of nanotechnology to improve the treatment efficiency of wastewater treatment plants is presented The application of membrane and membrane-based hybrid treatment technologies for wastewater treatment is covered
