Download or read book Douglas fir Tussock Moth written by Robert W. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This annotated bibliography includes references to 338 papers. Each deals in some way with either the Douglas-fir tussock moth, Orgyia pseudotsugata (McDunnough), or a related species. Specifically, 210 publications and 82 unpublished documents make some reference, at least, to the Douglas-fir tussock moth; 55 are concerned with other species in the same genus. The subject matter in each paper has been indexed to at least one general topic (General, Taxonomy, Biology, Host Relationships, Outbreaks, Control, Related Material). Most of these general topics have been subdivided into more specific headings. For example, Host Relationships includes separate categories for white fir, grand fir, and Douglas-fir. A complete listing of the references in each general and specific category is presented in the index.

Download or read book Growth of White Firs Defoliated by Modoc Budworm in Northeastern California written by George T. Ferrell and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open-grown, pole-sized white firs defoliated by Modoc budworm (Choristoneura viridis) in northeastern California in the years 1959-62 and 1973-75 suffered only minor growth reductions and topkilling compared with the effects that more protracted budworm outbreaks have had elsewhere on their conifer hosts. Growth index analysis indicated that the firs averaged a cumulative height growth deficit of 14.5 percent, or 34 cm (1.1 ft), over both outbreaks. Firs heavily defoliated during the 1973-75 outbreak were more frequently topkilled and consequently suffered larger height growth deficits. Topkilling during both outbreaks, however, was limited to the terminal shoot, resulting in slight crooks or forks, but no decay, in the stems. Radial growth deficits attributable to the outbreaks were not found and, unless future outbreaks are more protracted or otherwise intensify, the Modoc budworm can be considered only a marginal economic pest of firs in California.
Download or read book Forest Entomology written by Robert N. Coulson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1984-05-14 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text considers forest insects occurring in forest ecosystems, specialized forestry settings, and urban forests, with an approach and coverage that make it suitable for use in both undergraduate and graduate courses in forest entomology and forest protection. Early chapters introduce entomology, middle chapters provide the first comprehensive treatment of the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of forest insects, and later chapters discuss the pest insects according to their feeding group.
