Book Poly Ethylene Glycol Chemistry

Download or read book Poly Ethylene Glycol Chemistry written by J. Milton Harris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book came from discussions among participants in a symposium on biotechnical applications at the "Pacifichem 89" meeting in Honolulu. It was the majority opinion of this group that a volume dedicated to biotechnical and biomedical applications of PEG chemistry would enhance research and development in this area. Though the book was conceived at the Honolulu meeting, it is not a proceedings of this symposium. Several groups who did not participate in this meeting are repre sented in the book, and the book incorporates much work done after the meeting. The book does not include contributions in all related areas to which PEG chemistry has been applied. Several invited researchers declined to parti.:ipate, and there is not enough space in this single volume to properly cover all submissions. Chapter I-an overview of the topic-discusses in brief applications not given detailed coverage in specifically devoted chapters. The following topics are covered: introduction to and fundamental properties of PEG and derivatives in Chapters 1-3; separations using aqueous polymer two-phase partitioning in Chapters 4-6; PEG-proteins as catalysts in biotechnical applications in Chapters 7 and 8; biomedical applications of PEG-proteins in Chapters 9-13; PEG modified surfaces for a variety of biomedical and biotechnical applications in Chapters 14-20; and synthesis of new PEG derivatives in Chapters 21 and 22.

With chapters written by leaders in their respective fields, this compendium will be the authoritative source of information for scientists, engineers, and medical researchers seeking not only to understand but also to control tissue-biomaterial interactions.

Book Polyethers and Polyethylene Glycol

Download or read book Polyethers and Polyethylene Glycol written by Joyce Williams and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of this book examine polyethers and polyethylene glycol. The first chapter in particular gives a systematic, balanced and comprehensive summary of the main aspects of photosensitive polyethylene glycol. The second chapter is a focus on the biodegradation of polyethylene glycols (PEGs) and polyethoxylated surfactants. The third and last chapter of this book focuses on polyethylene glycol based phase change polymers for thermal energy storage applications. Life nowadays is often centered around technologies, and it is of utmost important to have the primary and secondary resources ready for present and future needs. This last chapter addresses these concerns and various procedures in which thermal energy can be stored and used.

  • Release : 2003
  • ISBN : 1588391078
  • Pages : 574 pages

Download or read book Art Biology and Conservation written by Robert John Koestler and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 2003 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the perception that artworks are timeless and unchanging, they are actually subject to biological attack from a variety of sources--from bacteria to fungi to insects. This groundbreaking volume, which publishes the proceedings of a conference held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2002, explores how the development of these organisms can be arrested while preserving both the work of art and the health of the conservator. The richly illustrated text, containing the writings of over 40 scientists and conservators, is divided into sections on stone and mural paintings, paper, textiles, wood and archaeological materials, treatment and prevention, and special topics. The artworks and cultural properties discussed include, among many others, Paleolithic cave paintings, Tiffany drawings, huts built by early Antarctic explorers, and a collection of toothbrushes taken from Auschwitz victims.
