Book Bioinformatics of Genome Regulation and Structure II

Download or read book Bioinformatics of Genome Regulation and Structure II written by Nikolay Kolchanov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-15 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last 15 years in development of biology were marked with accumulation of unprecedentedly huge arrays of experimental data. The information was amassed with exclusively high rates due to the advent of highly efficient experimental technologies that provided for high throughput genomic sequencing; of functional genomics technologies allowing investigation of expression dynamics of large groups of genes using expression DNA chips; of proteomics methods giving the possibility to analyze protein compositions of cells, tissues, and organs, assess the dynamics of the cell proteome, and reconstruct the networks of protein-protein interactions; and of metabolomics, in particular, high resolution mass spectrometry study of cell metabolites, and distribution of metabolic fluxes in the cells with a concurrent investigation of the dynamics of thousands metabolites in an individual cell. Analysis, comprehension, and use of the tremendous volumes of experimental data reflecting the intricate processes underlying the functioning of molecular genetic systems are unfeasible in principle without the systems approach and involvement of the state-of-the-art information and computer technologies and efficient mathematical methods for data analysis and simulation of biological systems and processes. The need in solving these problems initiated the birth of a new science— postgenomic bioinformatics or systems biology in silico.

Book Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

Download or read book Computational Biology and Bioinformatics written by Taylor & Francis Group and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-03-31 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advances in biotechnology such as the next generation sequencing technologies are occurring at breathtaking speed. Advances and breakthroughs give competitive advantages to those who are prepared. However, the driving force behind the positive competition is not only limited to the technological advancement, but also to the companion data analytical skills and computational methods which are collectively called computational biology and bioinformatics. Without them, the biotechnology-output data by itself is raw and perhaps meaningless. To raise such awareness, we have collected the state-of-the-art research works in computational biology and bioinformatics with a thematic focus on gene regulation in this book. This book is designed to be self-contained and comprehensive, targeting senior undergraduates and junior graduate students in the related disciplines such as bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, genome science, computer science, applied data mining, applied machine learning, life science, biomedical science, and genetics. In addition, we believe that this book will serve as a useful reference for both bioinformaticians and computational biologists in the post-genomic era.

Book Bioinformatics

Download or read book Bioinformatics written by David W. Mount and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of computational methods to DNA and protein science is an exciting development in biology. Bioinformatics: Sequence and Genome Analysis is a comprehensive introduction to this emerging field of study. The book has many valuable features. It is written for biologists who want to understand methods of sequence and structure analysis and how the necessary computer programs work. Sequence alignment, structure prediction, phylogenetic and gene prediction, database searching, and genome analysis are clearly explained and illustrated. Underlying algorithms and assumptions are also explained for the non-specialist, and examples are presented in simple numerical terms rather than complex formulas and notation. Theoretical underpinnings are linked to biological problems and their solutions, while extensive tables provide descriptions and Web sources for a broad range of publicly available software. Based on the author's experience as a molecular geneticist and bioinformaticist at the University of Arizona, this is an educational book, useful as a laboratory reference for investigators and also as a teaching reference for graduate and undergraduate students.
