Book Biohydrometallurgy 2009

Download or read book Biohydrometallurgy 2009 written by Edgardo R. Donati and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2009-05-19 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). The main focus of this collection of peer-reviewed articles is three different aspects of biohydrometallurgy: this is the field of microbial ecology which is the key to answering central questions concerning not only the diversity and behavior of micro-organisms in commercial operations, but also possible applications in biohydrometallurgy of extremophiles coming from very different environments. This covers metal recovery bioprocesses, including basic and applied studies of bioleaching and bio-oxidation; but also bioflotation. A large part of the book is given over to interfacial studies which contribute to the understanding of the interaction between surfaces and micro-organisms during those processes. Also covered are the remediation of mining activities and environmental protection as related to mining and mining industries.

Book Biohydrometallurgy of Chalcopyrite

Download or read book Biohydrometallurgy of Chalcopyrite written by Hongbo Zhao and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-07-29 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioleaching of chalcopyrite is always a challenge and research hotspot. The low copper extraction and dissolution kinetics restricted the industrial application of chalcopyrite bioleaching. To solve this problem, the dissolution process and passivation mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching should be first studied, then the rate-limiting steps should be analysed explicitly, and finally the intensifying method can be put forward. Many scholars have made efforts to investigate the dissolution mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching. However, there is no congruence of opinion as yet. Biohydrometallurgy of Chalcopyrite summarizes and discusses the reported research findings. In addition, this book publishes the related results found by the authors’ research. Then, the dissolution mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching is interpreted. Finally, the process intensification techniques of chalcopyrite bioleaching are provided and discussed. Hence, this book provides useful reference and guidance in both laboratory research and industrial production. Interprets the dissolution mechanism of chalcopyrite in bioleaching Provides feasible technologies for intensifying chalcopyrite bioleaching Overviews the current situations of chalcopyrite bioleaching Helps the readers to deeply understand the bioleaching mechanisms of chalcopyrite Provides topics for future research and potential industrial applications

Book Biotransformations Bioremediation Technology for Health and Environmental Protection

Download or read book Biotransformations Bioremediation Technology for Health and Environmental Protection written by R.D. Stapleton Jr. and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-13 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a clear understanding of how microbes, following their degradative processes, contribute maximally to the benefit of mankind through biotransformations of waste materials as well as a wide variety of health-risk compounds. The book contains twenty four chapters contributed by leading scientists from different parts of the world, covering various aspects of bioremediation of xenobiotics such as toxic, carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic compounds, which include halogenated aromatics, derivatives of heavy metals, microbial toxins, tannins, dyes, sulfur compounds of coal and petroleum and pesticides. The bioremediation of agricultural residue, industrial as well as municipal wastes, fuel oils, lubricants, natural rubber products, and other synthetic polymers, which pollute the environment substantially, also constitutes an important component of the book. All biotechnological aspects of microbial transformations pertaining to biodegradation/bioremediation of hazardous wastes, ranging from screening methods for microbes with degradative potential, processes of degradation, strain improvement for enhanced biodegradation and elimination of xenobiotics of health and environmental concern have been dealt with. The book intends to widen the scope of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology in general and biotransformations in particular. It will provide an opportunity for scientists in the areas of biochemistry, food industry, environmental science and engineering and their implications in technologically feasible, environment friendly and economically viable bioremediation options. Also, it forms an interface between agro-industrial establishments and the academic world and will generate new thought provoking ideas for scientists of future generations for the safeguard of both human and animal health as well as the environment.

Book Biomining

    Book Details:
  • Author : Douglas E. Rawlings
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-03-09
  • ISBN : 3662061112
  • Pages : 302 pages

Download or read book Biomining written by Douglas E. Rawlings and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomining is the use of microorganisms in the recovery of metals from ores. During bioleaching, metals such as copper, nickel or zinc are oxidized through microbial action from the water-insoluble sulfide to the soluble sulfate forms. Although gold is inert to microbial action, microbes can also be used in gold recovery from certain types of ores because as they oxidize the ore, they open up its structure, thereby allowing a gold-solubilizing agent such as cyanide to penetrate the ore. The book describes several industrial bioleaching and biooxidation processes as well as the underlying theory and biology of the microbes involved.

Book Advances in Bioprocess Engineering

Download or read book Advances in Bioprocess Engineering written by Enrique Galindo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioprocess engineering plays a key role in the development and optimization of bioprocesses leading to the products of biotechnology. A survey of the state-of-the-art in this field is greatly needed. This work covers all the essential sub-areas and as such is required reading for scientists active in all the disciplines involved in bioprocess engineering. This review of basic and applied approaches is brought together by a broad international group of expert authors. The work is a reflection of the First International Symposium on Bioprocess Engineering, June 1994. However, it must be emphasized that the book cannot be perceived as a regular symposium proceedings volume: a strict peer-review process assures the readers of a high level of quality; more than a quarter of the work consists of invited contributions, while less than half of the spontaneously submitted manuscripts were accepted for publication. Advances in Bioprocess Engineering belongs among the indispensable set of instruments of today's researcher in this field.
