Download or read book Biodiversity Offsets written by Wolfgang Wende and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the new concept of biodiversity offsets. The aim of offsetting schemes is to achieve no let loss or even net gain of biodiversity. Offsets obey a mitigation hierarchy and reflect the precautionary and polluter-pays principle in regard to project impacts. Readers gain insights into current debates on biodiversity policies, with top experts outlining theoretical principles and the latest research findings. At the same time the focus is on practical application and case studies. Today there is a lively international discussion among practitioners and scientists on the optimal legal framework, metrics and design of habitat banks to ensure the success of biodiversity offsets and to minimise the risks of failure or misuse. Contributing to the debate, this volume presents the activities and practices of biodiversity offsetting already implemented in Europe in selected EU member states, and the lessons that can be learnt from them. Readers may be surprised at how much experience already exists in these countries. A further aim of the book is to offer grounded insights on the road ahead, and foster a more intensive and fruitful discussion on how offsetting can be extended and improved upon, so that it becomes a key and effective component of Europe’s biodiversity conservation policy framework.

Book Financing Nature Based Solutions

Download or read book Financing Nature Based Solutions written by Robert C. Brears and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents new research on innovative financial instruments and approaches available to implement nature-based solutions (NBS) at various scales and in different contexts. Despite knowledge of the multiple benefits NBS provide, a key barrier to their wide-spread adoption is a lack of knowledge over their financing, in particular, who should pay for an NBS and how it can be financed. The book explores a variety of public, private, and blended finance models and their applicability in developing NBS across terrestrial and marine ecosystems, involving multiple stakeholders, and in jurisdictions of varying climates and income levels. Furthermore, the book provides case studies of the innovative financing of NBS with best practices identified. This book is of interest to environmental planners, resource conservation managers, policymakers, international companies and organizations, environmental NGOs, researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students interested in NBS.

The book also provides in-depth case studies of the innovative application of financing tools to achieve water security and green growth in various locations of differing climates, lifestyles, and income levels, and identifies best practices.

Book Study on Loss and Damage Financing Solutions and Sources

Download or read book Study on Loss and Damage Financing Solutions and Sources written by Ramstad Wenger, Cathrine and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2023-546/ Climate change leads to more severe and frequent disasters, increasing heat and sea level rise. When natural or man-made systems meet soft or hard adaptation limits, it can lead to loss and damage (L&D). L&D is unequally distributed, affecting the most vulnerable and least developed countries the worst. The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Working Group for Climate and Air (NKL) has commissioned a project in which the main objective is to map, identify and further develop potential solutions and sources for financial support to developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to climate change induced L&D. This study is a key outcome from this project. In short, this study’s focus is on how to enhance and improve existing solutions and sources and innovate and create new sources of finance that can be used for financing L&D actions.

Book Locating Nature

  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2022-09-29
  • ISBN : 1108753531
  • Pages : 724 pages

Download or read book Locating Nature written by Usha Natarajan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-09-29 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For those troubled by environmental harm on a global scale and its deeply unequal effects, this book explains how international law structures ecological degradation and environmental injustice while claiming to protect the environment. It identifies how central legal concepts such as sovereignty, jurisdiction, territory, development, environment, labour and human rights make inaccurate and unsustainable assumptions about the natural world and systemically reproduce environmental degradation and injustice. To avert socioecological crises, we must not only unpack but radically rework our understandings of nature and its relationship with law. We propose more sustainable and equitable ways to remake law's relationship with nature by drawing on diverse disciplines and sociocultural traditions that have been marginalized within international law. Influenced by Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), postcolonialism and decoloniality, and inspired by Indigenous knowledges, cosmology, mythology and storytelling, this book lays the groundwork for an epistemological shift in the way humans conceptualize the relationship between law and nature.

Book Selling Forest Environmental Services

Download or read book Selling Forest Environmental Services written by Joshua Bishop and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The risks posed by forest destruction throughout the world are highly significant for all. Not only are forests a critical source of timber and non-timber forest products, but they provide environmental services that are the basis of life on Earth. However, only rarely do beneficiaries pay for the goods and services they experience, and there are severe consequences as a result for the poor and for the forests themselves. It has proved difficult to translate the theory of market-based approaches into practice. Based on extensive research and case studies of biodiversity conservation, watershed protected and carbon sequestration, this book demonstrates how payment systems can be established in practice, their effectiveness and their implications for the poor.
