Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Nature Policies and Landscape Policies

Download or read book Nature Policies and Landscape Policies written by Roberto Gambino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-11 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book focuses on the relationship between nature conservation policies and landscape policies. This is a relevant subject due to the current need of reviving nature conservation policies, which are today affected by a general effectiveness deficiency. To this end, landscape policies can play a crucial role, bridging nature and culture, fostering more integrated approaches to nature conservation and stimulating the active participation of local communities. The book gathers reflections, researches and experiences developed on an international level on this subject by experts coming from different international contexts (Europe, U.S.A.), various disciplinary backgrounds (geographers, planners, biologists, historians, jurists, economists, etc.) and several institutional bodies (Universities, administrative bodies, international organizations such as IUCN, EUROPARC Federation, UNESCO, etc.). The overall reflections gathered in the book - which is divided in three main sections: regulations and institutional frameworks, policies, actions and tools - combine to suggest innovative visions about the relationships between nature policies and landscape policies.

Book Biocultural Diversity in Europe

Download or read book Biocultural Diversity in Europe written by Mauro Agnoletti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-29 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book collects a selection of the papers presented at the meeting held in the context of the Joint Programme on the Links between Biological and Cultural Diversity (JP-BiCuD). Recognizing the inextricable link between biological and cultural diversity, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) joined forces, and in 2010 launched the Joint Programme on the Links between Biological and Cultural Diversity (JP-BiCuD). The first meeting for the implementation of the JP-BiCuD was held in Florence (Italy) in April 2014 and produced the UNESCO-sCBD Florence Declaration, which highlights the concept of biocultural diversity. The European rural territory is predominantly a biocultural, multi-functional landscape, providing a crucial and effective space for integration of biological and cultural diversity, suggesting the need to revise some of the current strategies for the assessment and management of biodiversity.

Book Advances in Terrestrial Isopod Biology

Download or read book Advances in Terrestrial Isopod Biology written by Jasna ?trus and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2012-03-20 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrestrial isopods (woodlice) are the only group of crustaceans fully adapted to life on land and with about 3,700 species known at present represent the largest suborder of Isopoda. They occur in almost any kind of terrestrial habitat, from littoral to high mountains, from forests to deserts, with some species adapted to live in subterranean environments and others secondarily having returned to water. Woodlice are particularly important from a biogeographical and an ecological point of view, since they have limited dispersal ability, are often endemic to small geographic areas, and are extremely diverse ecologically.ÿThey also represent en excellent model group of animals to study the physiological adaptations related to the transition from an aquatic to a terrestrial way of life. This special issue of ZooKeys includes a collection of 20 papers presented during the 8th International Symposium on Terrestrial Isopod Biology, which was held at Bled, Slovenia from 19th to 23rd June 2011. Contributions address a wide range of topics related to terrestrial isopods, such as systematics, biogeography, morphology, physiology, molecular biology, microbiology, and ecology. Two contributions are related to the state of the art and future perspectives on biomineralizations in crustaceans and ecotoxicology in soil fauna. This special issue will be of great value for anyone interested in the biology of crustaceans in general and of terrestrial isopods in particular, stimulating future research on this unique group of animals.

Book La diversit della vita

    Book Details:
  • Author : Edward O. Wilson
  • Publisher : Bur
  • Release : 2011-05-10
  • ISBN : 8858601939
  • Pages : 600 pages

Download or read book La diversit della vita written by Edward O. Wilson and published by Bur. This book was released on 2011-05-10 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book La Biodiversit Una risorsa vitale per l intera umanit written by Italo Dante De Murtas and published by Booksprint. This book was released on 2020-07-15 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Landscape Bionomics Biological Integrated Landscape Ecology

Download or read book Landscape Bionomics Biological Integrated Landscape Ecology written by Vittorio Ingegnoli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-03 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Landscape Bionomics,” or “Bio-integrated Landscape Ecology,” radically transforms the main principles of traditional Landscape Ecology by recognizing the landscape as a living entity rather than merely the spatial distribution of species and communities on the territory, often analysed in separate themes (water, species, pollution, etc.). To be more exact, the landscape is identified as the "life organization integrating a set of plants, animals and human communities and its system of natural, semi-natural, and human cultural ecosystems in a certain spatial configuration." This new perspective inevitably leads to significant changes in how to assess and manage the environment. This book represents the culmination of an endeavor begun by the author, with the support of Richard Forman and Zev Naveh, more than a dozen years ago. It builds on the author’s previous successful publication, Landscape Ecology, A Widening Foundation, by addressing a range of additional topics and discussing the new theoretical and methodological concepts that have emerged during the past decade of research. Particular attention is paid to the fact that interventions in the landscape can be made with the best intentions yet cause serious damage! Against this background, the author explains the need to study "landscape units" by applying methods comparable to those used in clinical diagnosis – hence ecologists can be viewed as the “physicians” of ecological systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Amitav Ghosh «Appassionante e documentato». Telmo Pievani
