Book excerpt: The present investigation was performed to evaluate the effect of acid pretreatment, bonding condition (wet or dry dentin) and the application technique (single application or double application)on resin/dentin bond strength and the morphology of the resin/dentin interface using two self-etching adhesive systems. The results showed that the type of the adhesive had a significant effect on the resin/dentin shear bond strength, followed by dentin condition.

Book Bonding to Dentin with Conventional One step and Self etching Adhesive Systems

Download or read book Bonding to Dentin with Conventional One step and Self etching Adhesive Systems written by Pascal Gysi and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Etch and Rinse and Self Etch Adhesives Behavior on Dentin

Download or read book Etch and Rinse and Self Etch Adhesives Behavior on Dentin written by João Cardoso Ferreira and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hybridization is a key phenomenon in bonding resin-based composite restorations to dentin, and results from a molecular-level interaction between the resin and the demineralized collagen fibrils network. Nanoleakage occurs when small molecules or ions infiltrate into the hybrid layer. Our work aims to evaluate if the type of solvent and adhesive system influences the morphology of the hybrid layer and the occurrence of nanoleakage within it. Human molar teeth were distributed into six groups corresponding to adhesives with different solvents (ScotchbondTM 1XT, XP BondTM, Prime&Bond® NT, One Coat Bond®, AdheSE® and Xeno® V). Dentin disks (specimens) were cut from those teeth. The corresponding adhesive systems and a microhybrid composite (Synergy® D6) were applied onto them. The specimens were thermocycled, fixed, cut, polished, decalcified, dried, and, for nanoleakage evaluation, immersed into a tracer solution. The morphology and nanoleakage analyses were performed with a high-resolution scanning electron microscope (field-emission scanning electron microscope-FESEM), and the results were statistically processed. AdheSE® achieved the overall best performance. The type of adhesive, the number of steps, and the solvent seem to play a significant role in hybrid layer morphology and nanoleakage within it. The hybrid layer water absorption can determine the adhesion longevity.

Book Dental Hard Tissues and Bonding

Download or read book Dental Hard Tissues and Bonding written by George Eliades and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively reviews bonding to enamel, dentin and cementum and analyses relevant adhesion mechanisms. It is addressed to both the dental researcher and the clinician. Emphasis is placed on the characterization of material interfaces with dental tissues in situ. The volume also stresses the importance of appropriate experimental protocol design in facilitating clinically-relevant research methods, clarifies the mechanisms of adhesion of polymeric materials to hard dental tissues and furnishes a handy reference for routine clinical procedures in restorative and prosthetic dentistry as well as orthodontics. The book introduces important aspects of the chemistry of dental materials and their adaptation to dental hard tissues. It also analyses interfacial phenomena occurring during application of materials, including mechanical properties, and structural-compositional alterations. The text presents the current instrumental approaches in studying related issues and a summary of the current status of theories concerning bonding to dental tissues. This work, in its scope and scientific content, provides an in-depth view of the way in which aesthetic dentistry is currently being practiced.

Book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations

Download or read book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations written by Vesna Miletic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers both basic scientific and clinically relevant aspects of dental composite materials with a view to meeting the needs of researchers and practitioners. Following an introduction on their development, the composition of contemporary composites is analyzed. A chapter on polymerization explains the setting reactions and light sources available for light-cured composites. The quality of monomer-to-polymer conversion is a key factor for material properties. Polymerization shrinkage along with the associated stress remains among the most challenging issues regarding composite restorations. A new classification of dental composites is proposed to offer more clinically relevant ways of differentiating between commercially available materials. A review of specific types of composites provides an insight into their key issues. The potential biological issues of dental composites are reviewed in chapters on elution of leachable substances and cariogenicity of resin monomers. Clinical sections focus on material placement, finishing procedures, and the esthetics and clinical longevity of composite restorations. Bonding to tooth tissues is addressed in a separate chapter, as is the efficiency of various composite repair methods. The final chapter discusses future perspectives on dental composite materials.
