Book Sensory Motor Activities for Early Development

Download or read book Sensory Motor Activities for Early Development written by Chia Swee Hong and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sensory motor activities are crucial for children to learn from their environment. Bridging the gap between theory and practice, this revised edition is a complete package of tried-and-tested sensory motor activities for children, covering basic movements, interoception, sensory and body awareness and early visual perceptual skills. Providing an overview of the sensory systems, the authors offer practical strategies for parents/carers and practitioners to link knowledge to practice when communicating and engaging with a child. The authors present both familiar and novel activity ideas, explaining how they provide sensory stimulation to the relevant sensory systems and may help to support the child’s development, sensory processing and regulation levels. New material includes: greater emphasis on understanding the sensory systems and how they link to the activities a brand new chapter on interoception revised recording methods, including Goal Attainment Scaling as an outcome tool an expanded list of activities. Sensory Motor Activities for Early Development, 2nd edition is an essential text for all parents/carers and practitioners who use sensory motor activities in a playful way to help the development of children with a range of needs. It will be valuable reading for those working with children who do not initiate movement, who require help with their movement, who need to refine their movement, who need encouragement or motivation to engage in purposeful movements, or those who need activities to provide sensory stimulation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the needs of children with sensory integration dysfunction, this handbook offers practical, detailed information. Using the tools provided, teachers can make careful observations to understand sensory problems. By recognizing a child's underlying difficulties, such as hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity to touch and movement, appropriate activities can be planned. The list of suggested strategies cover a wide range of specific needs. Categories include poor posture, clumsiness/poor coordination, excessive restlessness,, fine motor problems, trouble with attention, learning behavior, weakness or floppiness of arms or legs, and bilateral integration problems. Working closely with occupational therapists, teachers can use the intervention techniques to enhance the abilities of children with sensory integration dysfunction.

Book A Field Guide to Sensory Motor Integration

Download or read book A Field Guide to Sensory Motor Integration written by Patricia Hadley Pt and published by Bookbaby. This book was released on 2023-07-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The blueprint for the human body, both in its creation and development, will always be the same. This field guide was written as a response to questions and requests from parents, teachers, and therapists of individuals who are challenged by sensory motor integration difficulties. The purpose of this guide is to provide a map for clinicians and medical professionals and a path for laypersons that reduces frustration, confusion, and the loss of precious time. It identifies areas that offer information and insight into connective links between sensory motor development and sensory motor anomalies.

Book Multisensory and sensorimotor interactions in speech perception

Download or read book Multisensory and sensorimotor interactions in speech perception written by Kaisa Tiippana and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speech is multisensory since it is perceived through several senses. Audition is the most important one as speech is mostly heard. The role of vision has long been acknowledged since many articulatory gestures can be seen on the talker's face. Sometimes speech can even be felt by touching the face. The best-known multisensory illusion is the McGurk effect, where incongruent visual articulation changes the auditory percept. The interest in the McGurk effect arises from a major general question in multisensory research: How is information from different senses combined? Despite decades of research, a conclusive explanation for the illusion remains elusive. This is a good demonstration of the challenges in the study of multisensory integration. Speech is special in many ways. It is the main means of human communication, and a manifestation of a unique language system. It is a signal with which all humans have a lot of experience. We are exposed to it from birth, and learn it through development in face-to-face contact with others. It is a signal that we can both perceive and produce. The role of the motor system in speech perception has been debated for a long time. Despite very active current research, it is still unclear to which extent, and in which role, the motor system is involved in speech perception. Recent evidence shows that brain areas involved in speech production are activated during listening to speech and watching a talker's articulatory gestures. Speaking involves coordination of articulatory movements and monitoring their auditory and somatosensory consequences. How do auditory, visual, somatosensory, and motor brain areas interact during speech perception? How do these sensorimotor interactions contribute to speech perception? It is surprising that despite a vast amount of research, the secrets of speech perception have not yet been solved. The multisensory and sensorimotor approaches provide new opportunities in solving them. Contributions to the research topic are encouraged for a wide spectrum of research on speech perception in multisensory and sensorimotor contexts, including novel experimental findings ranging from psychophysics to brain imaging, theories and models, reviews and opinions.
