La mobilite croissante de l'homme et la multiplication universelle de ses moyens de communication ne font qu'exagerer ces problemes de contact interlinguistique. Peu de pays peuvent les eviter. Ce livre est consacre non seulement a l'etude de ces problemes mais egalement a l'elaboration de solutions possibles par l'utilisation de methodes comparees objectives et par la quantification des variables touchant l'individu, la langue et le groupe. Il contribue donc a la comprehension d'un des grands dilemnes de notre siecle : la contradiction entre le droit du groupe a la survivance ethnique et le droit de l'individu a la liberte culturelle.
