Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical theory of control became a ?eld of study half a century ago in attempts to clarify and organize some challenging practical problems and the methods used to solve them. It is known for the breadth of the mathematics it uses and its cross-disciplinary vigor. Its literature, which can befoundinSection93ofMathematicalReviews,wasatonetimedominatedby the theory of linear control systems, which mathematically are described by linear di?erential equations forced by additive control inputs. That theory led to well-regarded numerical and symbolic computational packages for control analysis and design. Nonlinear control problems are also important; in these either the - derlying dynamical system is nonlinear or the controls are applied in a n- additiveway.Thelastfourdecadeshaveseenthedevelopmentoftheoretical work on nonlinear control problems based on di?erential manifold theory, nonlinear analysis, and several other mathematical disciplines. Many of the problems that had been solved in linear control theory, plus others that are new and distinctly nonlinear, have been addressed; some resulting general de?nitions and theorems are adapted in this book to the bilinear case.

Book Geometric Control Theory

Download or read book Geometric Control Theory written by Velimir Jurdjevic and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometric control theory is concerned with the evolution of systems subject to physical laws but having some degree of freedom through which motion is to be controlled. This book describes the mathematical theory inspired by the irreversible nature of time evolving events. The first part of the book deals with the issue of being able to steer the system from any point of departure to any desired destination. The second part deals with optimal control, the question of finding the best possible course. An overlap with mathematical physics is demonstrated by the Maximum principle, a fundamental principle of optimality arising from geometric control, which is applied to time-evolving systems governed by physics as well as to man-made systems governed by controls. Applications are drawn from geometry, mechanics, and control of dynamical systems. The geometric language in which the results are expressed allows clear visual interpretations and makes the book accessible to physicists and engineers as well as to mathematicians.

Download or read book Bilinear Control Systems written by Walter Evans and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-02-22 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing readers with a detailed examination of resilient controls in risk-averse decision, this monograph is aimed toward researchers and graduate students in applied mathematics and electrical engineering with a systems-theoretic concentration. This work contains a timely and responsive evaluation of reforms on the use of asymmetry or skewness pertaining to the restrictive family of quadratic costs that have been appeared in various scholarly forums. Additionally, the book includes a discussion of the current and ongoing efforts in the usage of risk, dynamic game decision optimization and disturbance mitigation techniques with output feedback measurements tailored toward the worst-case scenarios. This work encompasses some of the current changes across uncertainty quantification, stochastic control communities, and the creative efforts that are being made to increase the understanding of resilient controls. Specific considerations are made in this book for the application of decision theory to resilient controls of the linear-quadratic class of stochastic dynamical systems.

Book Linear Optimal Control of Bilinear Systems

Download or read book Linear Optimal Control of Bilinear Systems written by Zijad Aganovic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-03-12 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to be a comprehensive treatment of linear methods to optimal control of bilinear systems. The unified theme of this book is the use of dynamic programming in order to simplify and decompose required computations for the optimal control of bilinear-quadratic systems. There are numerous examples of bilinear control systems that provide great challenges to engineers, mathematicians and computer scientists: these include nuclear reactors, missile intercept problems and mechanical brake systems. The book also examines two special classes of bilinear-quadratic control problems: namely singularly perturbed and weakly coupled bilinear control systems. The usefulness of the presented methods to these two types of control problem is demonstrated by several real control system examples.

Book Geometric Methods in System Theory

Download or read book Geometric Methods in System Theory written by D.Q. Mayne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometric Methods in System Theory In automatic control there are a large number of applications of a fairly simple type for which the motion of the state variables is not free to evolve in a vector space but rather must satisfy some constraints. Examples are numerous; in a switched, lossless electrical network energy is conserved and the state evolves on an ellipsoid surface defined by x'Qx equals a constant; in the control of finite state, continuous time, Markov processes the state evolves on the set x'x = 1, xi ~ O. The control of rigid body motions and trajectory control leads to problems of this type. There has been under way now for some time an effort to build up enough control theory to enable one to treat these problems in a more or less routine way. It is important to emphasise that the ordinary vector space-linear theory often gives the wrong insight and thus should not be relied upon.
