Book Catching Dreams

Download or read book Catching Dreams written by Frazier Robinson and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2000-12-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a rare memoir about the Negro Leagues and its celebrated players, Frazier "Slow" Robinson offers an inspiring and often entertaining view of the black baseball diamond through a catcher's mask. In 1939, at the age of 29—after playing professional baseball for twelve years—Frazier Robinson caught the legendary Satchel Paige in barnstorming games from New Orleans to Walla Walla. Robinson played several more seasons in the Negro Leagues before finishing his career in Canada. While his career was a solid one, it was less spectacular than that of his friend and Hall-of-Famer, Satchel Paige, and so more typical of the experience of most Negro Leaguers. Richly embroidered with the threads of black society and of life as a black athlete in a racially divided nation, Robinson recounts his long career with the skill and ease of a natural storyteller. He covers, in remarkable detail, the personal perspective of the men, the teams, and the times that shaped this uniquely American subculture. From playing catcher for obscure industrial teams to barnstorming with Satchel Paige, he chronologically traces his nationwide path through the 1920s, '30s, '40s, and early '50s. The Foreword by John "Buck" O'Neil and Introduction by Gerald Early place Robinson squarely in the world of sports, African American culture, and American history.

Book Selling With Dignity

  • Author : Harry Spaight
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2021-09-27
  • ISBN : 9781956353013
  • Pages : 206 pages

Download or read book Selling With Dignity written by Harry Spaight and published by . This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the world of sales, there are all kinds of tactics and strategies. What is the latest and greatest strategy to get people to buy our wares? Is it sales automation? Artificial Intelligence? Selling is getting to be more and more challenging. The pressure is on. Companies are spending untold sums of money to grow their businesses. Salespeople are being viewed as robots who are mechanically calling and emailing with little to no relationship building. Accountants are looking at spreadsheets of activity and view the craft of sales as something that can be achieved as simply doing a task. Why are some successful and others are not? They do not understand the nuances of personality, relationships, and the skills required to bring in new business. Customers and clients desire to be treated well. Many prefer to bypass people altogether and buy what they need without human interaction. Who can be trusted these days? There are all kinds of scams, misrepresentations, and con artists taking advantage of people. People at their core prefer to do business with people who can be trusted, who do what is right and put others' interests over their own. But where are these types of salespeople? Many salespeople are only thinking about their own livelihood and quotas. They aren't thinking about service to others. They often don't even have the time to serve others after they sell their product or service and they have already moved on to the next customer (victim). Selling With Dignity takes a different approach. Instead of viewing people as numbers and machines, salespeople can be dignified in their approach. Selling is an honorable profession when it is done right. When sellers feel they are valuable and have integrity and respect, this opens the door for better conversations and eventually relationships. This book puts an end to sleazy sales tactics and proves Selling With Dignity can be done and it leads to massive success.

Book Love and Selling

Download or read book Love and Selling written by Dan Smaida and published by Beaver's Pond Press. This book was released on 2016-06-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let's face it: there's a lot of sucky selling going on in the world today. Sellers have been trained to use artificial tactics in pursuit of the sale. Like a woman in a bar bracing for another cheesy, tired pickup line, customers are now warier than ever. In ''Love and Selling,'' Dan Smaida uses the Lens of Love to call out all those cheesy, cringe-worthy 'tactics' and offer more authentic alternatives. The book uses the simple lessons we all understand about love and relationships to transform the way we think about selling. No 'sales processes,' no seller-centric models, just tried-and-true behaviors that work in business . . . and in love. When sellers ditch the tricks and focus on developing true relationships, they create real partnerships with customers, enjoy their jobs more, and see better results.

Book Go Givers Sell More

Download or read book Go Givers Sell More written by Bob Burg and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2010-02-18 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With their national bestseller The Go-Giver, Bob Burg and John David Mann took the business world by storm, showing that giving is the most fulfilling and effective path to success. That simple, profound story has inspired hundreds of thousands of readers around the world-but some have wondered how its lessons stand up to the tough challenges of everyday real-world business. Now Burg and Mann answer that question in Go-Givers Sell More, a practical guide that makes giving the cornerstone of a powerful and effective approach to selling. Most of us think of sales as convincing potential customers to do something they don't really want to. This mentality sets up an adversarial relationship and makes the sales process much harder than it has to be. As Burg and Mann demonstrate, it's far more productive (and satisfying) when salespeople think like Go-Givers. Cultivate a trusting relationship and focus exclusively on creating value for the other person, say the authors, and great results will follow automatically. Drawing on a wide range of examples of real-life salespeople who have prospered by giving more, Burg and Mann offer tips and strategies that anyone in sales can start applying right away.

Book excerpt: Madman, tyrant, animal—history has given Adolf Hitler many names. In Mein Kampf (My Struggle), often called the Nazi bible, Hitler describes his life, frustrations, ideals, and dreams. Born to an impoverished couple in a small town in Austria, the young Adolf grew up with the fervent desire to become a painter. The death of his parents and outright rejection from art schools in Vienna forced him into underpaid work as a laborer. During the First World War, Hitler served in the infantry and was decorated for bravery. After the war, he became actively involved with socialist political groups and quickly rose to power, establishing himself as Chairman of the National Socialist German Worker's party. In 1924, Hitler led a coalition of nationalist groups in a bid to overthrow the Bavarian government in Munich. The infamous Munich "Beer-hall putsch" was unsuccessful, and Hitler was arrested. During the nine months he was in prison, an embittered and frustrated Hitler dictated a personal manifesto to his loyal follower Rudolph Hess. He vented his sentiments against communism and the Jewish people in this document, which was to become Mein Kampf, the controversial book that is seen as the blue-print for Hitler's political and military campaign. In Mein Kampf, Hitler describes his strategy for rebuilding Germany and conquering Europe. It is a glimpse into the mind of a man who destabilized world peace and pursued the genocide now known as the Holocaust.
