Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION Over more than a decade now, the Internet has virtually made our world smaller. The touch of a few keystrokes enables people to communicate, engage in commerce, and interact with others around the world. Put simply, technology has fundamentally changed the way the businesses were handled by society including consumers. This global presence of internet has enabled businesses to reach new markets and millions of new potential customers. With the result, during this period of time, online commerce or electronic commerce commonly known as e-commerce has emerged as the fastest growing sector across the globe. ―While being able to access to global markets, online commerce or e-commerce has enabled businesses to bypass the traditional intermediaries in domestic jurisdictions. Besides, owing to its lower transaction costs, online commerce has caused a steady increase in the number of sellers and suppliers in the market, thus increasing diversity and competition in the market. Therefore, online commerce has been rightly categorized as the new face of entrepreneurship which encompasses existing companies, organizations, small businesses and individual online traders.‖ 1 The term online commerce or e-commerce, which is short for electronic commerce, is the act of buying or selling goods, services, or information over an electronic network to consumers. 1n 1960's first time electronic commerce was presented through an Electronic Data Interchange (commonly known as EDI) on Value Added Networks . Today it acts as guiding the business with the assistance of electronic mass media, creating the practice of Information Technology likewise Electronic Data Interchange. According to Change (2000) "graduation is right time to make career decision for future careers". Many students enter college without any career planning and having a lot of confusion about where to go after college is over or finishing their studies. They fail to carry realistic expectations from their respective college in this situation. College is an entity, which can provide complete support to students to work on both their personal as well as career development while making students career ready. CDMSE as a concept related to positive beliefs of students about choosing their right career and developing Career Maturity, which makes them capable to choose their career. Book Psychology of Career Adaptability Employability and Resilience

Download or read book Psychology of Career Adaptability Employability and Resilience written by Kobus Maree and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how the career counselling profession should respond to the changes in the world of work that have resulted from the increasing need to communicate faster and disseminate information more efficiently. It emphasizes the twin aims of enhancing a persons’ career adaptability and helping them to become more employable, rather than linearly trying to find a job and remaining in one organisation for their entire career-lives. The book shows that, to achieve these aims, people need to acquire career resilience, especially since the world of work no longer provides workers with work-holding environments for the duration of their career-lives. It takes into account historical analyses which show that whenever major technological change has occurred and widespread job losses have ensued, people have managed to use the new technology to create new employment opportunities. Readers from career psychology and management research, vocational and professional career coaching, and students of career psychology will find this book delivers sound, updated theory demonstrating how perceived threats in the 21st century can conceivably be turned into opportunities.

Book Exploring Career Decision making Self efficacy Career Maturity Attitudes and Racial Identity Attitudes of College Students of Color

Download or read book Exploring Career Decision making Self efficacy Career Maturity Attitudes and Racial Identity Attitudes of College Students of Color written by Jacob N. Sneva and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American higher education is becoming more racially and ethnically diverse and researchers have suggested that more attention should be given to better understanding the career development of college students of color. Although there is substantial research on career development and the career decision-making process, studies have overwhelmingly primarily used data collected from White participants. Thus, little research has been done on the career development of people of color and specifically, college students of color. The primary focus of this study was to explore relationships between career decision-making self-efficacy, career maturity attitudes, and racial identity attitudes of college students of color. In addition, the study explored relationships between career decision-making self-efficacy, career maturity attitudes, and various demographic and life experience variables.^A sample of 164 college students of color attending five institutions of higher education in the Western New York area was used for this study. A survey packet consisting of four separate self-report instruments was completed by each participant. This study employed a multiple correlation and regression survey research design which was used to examine relationships between variables. This study generated a number of important findings. First, strong relationships where found between career decision-making self-efficacy and career maturity attitudes for this sample. Second, career decision-making self-efficacy and career maturity attitudes were related both positively and negatively, depending upon participants' current racial identity status, to participants' racial identity attitudes.^Third, participants' age, year in college, academic major, mother's educational level, and family income were predictors of their confidence in their ability to make a career choice that would meet their preferred lifestyle. Lastly, none of the remaining demographic variables were related to either career development construct. This study also explored the implications of the findings on career counseling with students of color, student affairs and academic advising practice, and higher education policy. Overall, this study provides new and relevant information regarding the career and racial identity development of college students of color, a very limited body of scholarly literature.

Book The Five factor Model and Career Self efficacy

Download or read book The Five factor Model and Career Self efficacy written by Robert Owen Hartman and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Researchers have begun to investigate connections between the Five-Factor Model of personality and Social Cognitive Career Theory, but the data are limited and therefore inconclusive. To replicate and extend previous work, this dissertation explores empirical relationships between the Big Five personality factors (the NEO Five-Factor Inventory) and 24 distinct domains of career-related self-efficacy (the Expanded Skills Confidence Inventory and the Career Decision Self-Efficacy-Short Form). Findings suggest that Conscientiousness and Extraversion correlate positively with a broad range of self-efficacy domains, while Neuroticism displays a significant negative relationship with nearly all forms of career self-efficacy. In addition, Openness to Experience correlates with self-efficacy for creative and intellectual pursuits, while Agreeableness shows no significant relationship with career self-efficacy variables. Findings are evaluated in light of recent empirical and theoretical developments relating to the integration of trait and social-cognitive perspectives.

Book Personality Predictors of Academic Achievement in Gifted Students

Download or read book Personality Predictors of Academic Achievement in Gifted Students written by Sakhavat Mammadov (Ph.D.) and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This quantitative study investigated the predictive role of the Big Five personality traits on academic achievement and its mediation by self-efficacy in self-regulated learning and academic motivation within the sample of gifted students (N = 161). The ACT or ACT Explore scores were used as a measure of academic achievement. The first question asked about the relationships between the Big Five personality traits and all other measured variables. Agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness were found to have significant associations with the ACT/ACT Explore composite and subtest scores. The second research question asked if personality, motivation, and self-regulatory efficacy differed by grade and gender. The results revealed that middle school students scored significantly higher than high school students on extraversion. Female students scored higher on neuroticism and lower on extraversion compared to their male counterparts. In addition, female students had more controlled type of motivation than male students. The third question was about the interplay between personality traits, self-regulatory efficacy, academic motivation, and academic achievement. Self-regulatory efficacy, controlled motivation, and autonomous motivation were hypothesized to serve as mediators in the relationships between personality traits and academic achievement. Of the Big Five traits, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness were presented in the path analysis model. All three personality traits had direct effects on academic achievement. The indirect effects of these traits through specific pathways were estimated. The present study contributes to the research field by revealing important relationships between specific constructs that have been suggested by personality, social cognitive, and self-determination theories. Academic motivation and self-regulatory efficacy established as important mediators of the association between Big Five personality traits and academic achievement. These findings suggest that educators should be aware of their students' different personality traits. Educators play an important role in promoting self-regulated learning (Peeters et al., 2014) and fostering intrinsic motivation and task engagement (Reeve, 2002). They should be trained to enhance students' efficacy by developing their self-regulatory skills through internalization of effective strategies for learning. In addition, teachers should learn how to be more autonomy supportive with students. Educational leaders have a key responsibility to make these happen effectively. They should give proactive attention to these requirements and ensure that their teachers are well-equipped to integrate self-regulatory and motivational resources into the school curriculum.

Book An Investigation of the Relationship Between Big Five and Narrow Personality Traits and Life Satisfaction in College Student and Adult Samples

Download or read book An Investigation of the Relationship Between Big Five and Narrow Personality Traits and Life Satisfaction in College Student and Adult Samples written by Christine A. Acevedo and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between broad and narrow personality traits and life satisfaction for college-aged and adult populations. Hypotheses were several-fold: first, that personality measures would be predictive of life satisfaction; second, that there would be differences in the correlations of Big Five personality traits and life satisfaction for both age groups; and third, that there would be differences between both age groups in the amount of variance in life satisfaction accounted for by three narrow personality traits, i.e., Optimism, Tough-Mindedness, and Work Drive. Archival data were used to compare an undergraduate sample at a Southeastern U.S. university (n=4844), and an adult sample from a database representing working adults (n=7633). Correlation and multiple regression analyses were used for each age group in examining the validity of Big Five and narrow traits and life satisfaction. A Fischer's z score was used to determine significant differences in the correlations by age. The Big Five and narrow traits were found to be predictive of life satisfaction for both groups, with Emotional Stability and Optimism showing the highest correlation for both age groups. There were significant differences in correlations between the age groups on measures of Extraversion (z=4.64, p,
