This book was released on 1984 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature containing original observations on the parasites of herring throughout its worldwide distribution is summarized in the form of annotated Parasite-Host and Host Parasite checklists with accompanying bibliography. The Parasite-Host checklist, arranged on a taxonomic base, summarizes records for over 80 identified species of parasites reported from herring, and includes information on numerous other parasites for which specific identity is unknown. Included are the currently recognized scientific names of the parasites, any synonyms occuring in the literature, site of occurrence in the host, subspecies of herring from which the parasite has been reported, summary of the recorded distribution of the parasites in herring, and the published source for each host and locality record.

This book was released on 1990-02-28 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Second Edition has been expanded to two volumes, the first of which focuses on marine fish. Volume 1 reviews the important diseases of wild, captive, or cultivated fish species, fish immunology, the effects of disease on populations, and public health aspects of fish diseases. Fishery scientists and managers, marine biologists, marine ecologists, and marine aquaculturists will find this volume indispensable. Principal Diseases of Marine Fish and Shellfish examines: Important diseases of marine fish and shellfish The effects of disease on wild and cultivated populations of fish and shellfish How fish and shellfish resist invasion by potential pathogen The influence of coastal/estuarine pollution on fish and shellfish disease The public health implications of fish and shellfish diseases

Download or read book Parasites of Marine Fish and Cephalopods written by Sven Klimpel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-06 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a comprehensive, reliable and practical guide to the dissection and parasitological examination of marine fish and cephalopods. The first part provides a general introduction, presenting basic information on: parasitology, ecology of the marine environment, history and methods of fisheries and aquaculture, as well as the ecology of marine fish and cephalopods and the impact of parasites on hosts. In turn, the second part provides general information on the morphology and anatomy of marine fish and cephalopods using the example of abundant morphotypes (including e.g. habitus photos of the body cavity and internal organs). The third part covers the relevant parasitic groups, their ecology (e.g. lifecycles, transmission), related diseases, and detection. The fourth part, a comprehensive methods section, provides essential protocols and applications of common dissection methods (for roundfish, flatfish and cephalopods) and stomach content analyses, as well as parasite preservation, preparation and molecular identification. Basic calculations of the most common infection and ecological parameters are also introduced. The book’s fifth and final part provides information on health risks associated with fish and cephalopod consumption, as well as the prevention of human infection through the correct handling and processing of fish samples. The appendix provides e.g. blank sheets for recording fish dissections and parasitological examinations.
Download or read book Fish atlas of the Celtic Sea North Sea and Baltic Sea written by Henk J.L. Heessen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-14 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The atlas presents a unique set of abundance data to describe the spatial, depth, size, and temporal distribution of demersal and pelagic fish species over an extensive marine area, together with accounts of their biology. A large number of pictures, graphs and distribution maps illustrate the text. By largely avoiding - or at least explaining - scientific terms and providing extensive references, the book should be useful for both laymen and scientists. The quantitative information on some 200 fish taxa is derived from 72,000 stations fished by research vessels during the period 1977-2013. The area covers the northwest European shelf from west of Ireland to the central Baltic Sea and from Brittany to the Shetlands. Although the surveys extend beyond the shelf edge, only taxa reported at least once in waters less than 200 m are included. Typical deep-water species and typical fresh-water species are excluded. We hope this publication will contribute to gaining a better understanding of the ocean ecosystems.

Download or read book Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar written by Florence T. Wright and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: North American stocks of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) have been declining. One measure being employed to reverse that trend is increased hatchery production. As with husbandry of other animals, intensive rearing is usually associated with higher than normal health risks. Research on diseases of Atlantic salmon can help prevent, reduce, or otherwise control mortality due to problem parasites, infections, and other diseases. For planning of research as well as for diagnostic work, health management, and husbandry, published information on diseases of the Atlantic salmon must be readily available. Inasmuch as the literature is widely scattered, the purpose of this work is to compile a bibliography from international sources on the diseases (detection, diagnosis, identification, and control) of Atlantic salmon. Most of the references are arranged alphabetically by author, either have been annotated by the staff of the Eastern Fish Disease Laboratory, or are abstracts by the author.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 43 is an eclectic volume with reviews on ecology and biogeography of marine parasites; fecundity: characteristics and role in life-history strategies of marine invertebrates; the ecology of Southern Ocean Pack-ice; and biological and remote sensing perspectives of pigmentation in coral reef organisms. Advances in Marine Biology was first published in 1963. Now edited by A.J. Southward (Marine Biological Association, UK), P.A. Tyler (Southampton Oceanography Association, UK), C.M. Young (Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, USA) and L.A. Fuiman (University of Texas, USA), the serial publishes in-depth and up-to-date reviews on a wide range of topics which will appeal to postgraduates and researchers in marine biology, fisheries science, ecology, zoology, oceanography. Eclectic volumes in the series are supplemented by thematic volumes on such topics as The Biology of Calanoid Copepods. AMB first published 1963 This volume presents a selection of reviews on the biology of lesser-known taxa of the phylum Mollusca, including: The mostly diminutive protobranch bivalves; The slug-like shelled opisthobranchs; The highly specialized and evolutionarily advanced tusk shells; The beautiful, priceless, yet frustratingly hard-to-collect slit shells
