Book The Deliberate Search for the Stratigraphic Trap

Download or read book The Deliberate Search for the Stratigraphic Trap written by Matthew R. Allen and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-three years have elapsed since the publication of Halbouty's AAPG Memoir of 1982 The Deliberate Search for the Subtle Trap. Since then, the technologies employed in hydrocarbon exploration have become extraordinarily sophisticated, yet current exploration for stratigraphic traps is to some extent restricted to areas where seismic data simplifies exploration by allowing direct inference of fluid fill and reservoir development. This Special Publication draws upon contributions that examine current industry perceptions of stratigraphic trap exploration and the technologies, tools and philosophies employed in such exploration, given the changing industry environment. This book contains a collection of papers examining a number of themes related to exploration for stratigraphic traps, ranging from play and risk assessment, through regional assessments of stratigraphic trapping potential, specific exploration programmes targeted at stratigraphic traps to specific working traps and plays where stratigraphic trapping is prevalent.

Book Oil and Gas Traps

Download or read book Oil and Gas Traps written by Malcolm K. Jenyon and published by . This book was released on 1990-03-07 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Discusses the morphology and development of a wide range of hydrocarbon trap situations, illustrating these whenever possible with good quality seismic examples and taking account of seismostratigraphic characteristics where these are relevant to the particular trap type. There is some general examination of morphological aspects of various classes of trap, accompanied in many instances by case-history examples from the literature. Although the accent is on North Sea traps, a large number of examples has been chosen from many areas worldwide."--Back cover.

Book Stratigraphic reservoir characterization for petroleum geologists geophysicists and engineers

Download or read book Stratigraphic reservoir characterization for petroleum geologists geophysicists and engineers written by Roger M. Slatt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-11-03 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reservoir characterization as a discipline grew out of the recognition that more oil and gas could be extracted from reservoirs if the geology of the reservoir was understood. Prior to that awakening, reservoir development and production were the realm of the petroleum engineer. In fact, geologists of that time would have felt slighted if asked by corporate management to move from an exciting exploration assignment to a more mundane assignment working with an engineer to improve a reservoir’s performance. Slowly, reservoir characterization came into its own as a quantitative, multidisciplinary endeavor requiring a vast array of skills and knowledge sets. Perhaps the biggest attractor to becoming a reservoir geologist was the advent of fast computing, followed by visualization programs and theaters, all of which allow young geoscientists to practice their computing skills in a highly technical work environment. Also, the discipline grew in parallel with the evolution of data integration and the advent of asset teams in the petroleum industry. Finally, reservoir characterization flourished with the quantum improvements that have occurred in geophysical acquisition and processing techniques and that allow geophysicists to image internal reservoir complexities.
