Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bible Truths Through Poetry is a collection of inspirational poems. The poetry was written by using knowledge of the Bible and combining that with the various experiences I have had in life. The poetry came to me in the form of a rhyme. The Bible has been known as a book of comfort for those in difficult situations. Poetry is an unique way of spreading the gospel. Using Bible truths, this book of poetry has been written to send a positive solution for issues we face in life. My prayer is that this collection of poems touches the hearts and souls of those who read it. There are a lot of things people are facing today. I only hope that someone who reads this and is feeling hopeless will afterwards feel that they can make it. I thank God for the gift. Thank you, also, to my parents for teaching me the way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These poems deal mostly with Biblical issues. Some address our human condition based on the Scriptures. Others deal with unseen influences that many of us are unaware of, but which impact our lives for better or worse. They were written as a result of 21 years of studying the Bible. Originally my journey into the Scriptures began as I sought solutions to my own problems. However over the years it has became a quest for answers to lifes deeper issues. When I began reading the Bible I did not believe I would find solutions to my problems. I started reading it out of desperation after I had exhausted books on philosophy and the occult and just about anything else I got my hands on. I read many books promising the secret but they disappointed me. It is really astonishing that a book which just about everyone has sitting around really has the answer to every human need. I wrote these poems because I came to the realization that many people like me years ago, do not believe in the spiritual. And yet I believe it is evident that if we disregard Biblical teachings about the spiritual realms, life simply does not make a lot of sense. However it is also my experience that many people who claim to be spiritual do not understand what the Bible teaches about the spiritual realm that operates in the earth. These poems were also written for people who have difficulty reading and understanding the Scriptures. I try to clarify misunderstanding about many important Biblical issues such as Hell and pre-destination. They are written in simple poetic language for the benefit of anyone who is interested in Biblical Truth.

Book The Bible and Poetry

  • Author : Michael Edwards
  • Publisher : New York Review of Books

Download or read book The Bible and Poetry written by Michael Edwards and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh, provocative look at the link between poetry and Christianity, both as it relates to the Bible itself as well as to Christian and religious life, by an accomplished scholar. The Bible is full of poems. In the Old Testament, there are the Psalms and the Song of Songs, the great exhortations and lamentations of the Prophets, and passages of poetry woven in throughout. In the New Testament, Jesus describes the kingdom of heaven with poetic epithets such as “a treasure hid in a field,” calling the Son of God “the true vine,” “the light of the world,” “the good shepherd,” and “the way, the truth, and the life.” The Gospels reverberate with allusions to the poetry of the Old Testament; the last book of all is Revelation, a visionary poem. The Bible, in other words, asks to be read poetically from start to end, and yet readers have rarely considered what that might mean, much less heeded that call. In The Bible and Poetry, the poet and scholar Michael Edwards reshapes our understanding of the Bible and religious belief, arguing that poetry is not an ornamental or accidental feature but is central to both. He speaks personally of his early, unanticipated, transformative encounters with scripture. He offers close, insightful, and resonant readings of biblical passages. Poetry, as he sees it, is the vital and necessary medium of the Creator’s word, and the truth of the Bible is not a question of precepts and propositions but of a direct experience of its poetry, its power.

Book Ruin the Sacred Truths

Download or read book Ruin the Sacred Truths written by Harold BLOOM and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bloom surveys with majestic view the literature of the West from the Old Testament to Samuel Beckett. He provocatively rereads the Yahwist (or J) writer, Jeremiah, Job, Jonah, the Iliad, the Aeneid, Dante's Divine Comedy, Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, the Henry IV plays, Paradise Lost, Blake's Milton, Wordsworth's Prelude, and works by Freud, Kafka, and Beckett. In so doing, he uncovers the truth that all our attempts to call any strong work more sacred than another are merely political and social formulations. This is criticism at its best. Table of Contents: 1. The Hebrew Bible 2. From Homer to Dante 3. Shakespeare 4. Milton 5. Enlightenment and Romanticism 6. Freud and Beyond Reviews of this book: Bloom's puissance is not entirely his own; for some of it, he is indebted to Nietzsche, Freud, Schopenhauer, Gershom Scholem, and other masters. But enough of it is his own to constitute a distinctive form of splendor. --Denis Donoghue, New York Review of Books Reviews of this book: The wit, the eclecticism and the gripping paradoxes...the force of [Bloom's] intellect carries the reader from pinnacle to pinnacle, showing a new spiritual landscape from each. --Roger Scruton, Washington Times Reviews of this book: In some ways the wildest of the wild men (and women), in some ways the most traditional of the traditionalists, Harold Bloom remains serene amid the turbulence--much of it caused by him. He stands dauntless, a party of one, as thrilling to behold up on the high wire as he is (at times) throttling to read on the page...From this strong critic dealing with these strong poets comes a potent mix of insight. --Mark Feeney, Boston Globe

For decades, Bea has used her unique life coaching skills to help people better understand life’s misfortunes, and has taught them to live, laugh and love again. After every visit I would feel stronger and couldn’t wait for our next meeting. Bea shared so much of her wisdom, knowledge, guidance and counsel with me and I have her to thank for where I am at today. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The String of Pearls: Thirty Poems on Bible Truth In writing this book of poems it has not been my aim to carry my reader away in fairy fancies, to be only charmed for a while, and then left entirely unbenefited. But my object. Has been to place before the reader something interesting, instructive and beneficial to the heart, mind and soul; and to do this I have had to reach higher for my themes than the literature of earth (man's wisdom), and go to the inspired word - the Bible - the book of books, which reaches back to the dawn of man's existence, and stretches forward through the dim mist. Of the future to the hidden mysteries. I have gathered pearls of truth from this great book and set them in the gilded frame of rhyme, and hang them up before you in the bright light of reality, that you may see and admire, and receive thoughts and impressions as pure and as valuable as diamonds, to benefit you in this life and through the. Each and every book of the Bible is in this book with a few of my own poems not based upon the book that I read to get the major poems about the most important parts of the Bible. If you like the Psalms but find the other parts of the Bible a bit confusing, then this is a book that will help you understand the Bible better. We have a loving, but just God. You wouldn’t let your child run wild in the traffic of the streets would you? Well God sets down rules so that we can be safe and get through this sometimes hard world. He does it because He loves us! I hope this book will give you hours of enjoyment. I know I learned a lot from writing it that I did not know from reading the actual Bible. Nothing can surpass the actual Bible, but for some, you may find this book to be rather fun. The poems were written from reading a small book about the most important parts of each book of the Bible. God bless you, Diann Ross Woodbury
