Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A refreshing look at this vital spiritual and psychological issue. Well-written and well-organized, this book will prove to be invaluable to many." R. Scott Stehouwer, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist, Emeritus Professor of Psychology, Calvin University Bible psychology predates human psychology by thousands of years. By the time Freud and his colleagues pieced together a few foundations of human psychology, the Bible had been putting them forth for centuries. Moses was a straightforward biblical psychologist. Job was a meticulous researcher, David a penetrating therapist, and Solomon a studied practitioner. The minor prophets practiced reality therapy in its purest form. Paul was a tireless group therapist who, in Ephesians 4:28, lays out a prescription for complete character change in a single verse! Jesus, the master, specialized in birthing new personalities. These psychologists relied upon the mind of God. Where their work corroborates modern psychology, the knowledge of man is verified. The truth-seeker should enjoy connecting human thought with divine revelation for vivid understanding of the Christian faith. This devotional work links two psychology sources--biblical and human--so that bedrock human behavior may be scripturally verified and understood. Jesus taught psychological concepts like the perils of temptation, the nature of the flesh, the grip of fear, and even the Freudian slip (Matthew 12:34). A myriad of psychology principles are addressed by Scripture; rigidity of character, sex addiction, love, personality change, self-esteem, and healing the fractured self are just a few. Make no mistake: as transformation relates to the human experience, the Bible is a spiritual psychology text. This devotional brings this dimension to the written page.

Book Examples and Principles of Psychology in the Bible

Download or read book Examples and Principles of Psychology in the Bible written by Dennis Farrell and published by . This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible contains instances, examples, and ideas of principles that can be found in modern psychology books. In fact, many of these principles that psychology has discovered could already be found in Scripture. This should not be considered unusual, since the Bible also contains economic and scientific principles, as well as principles from other disciplines in life. This book, however, is not about psychology based on the Bible or how the Bible is a type of psychology book. It is not about how to be a better counselor, psychotherapist, or psychologist by using Scripture, nor is it a guide on how to use psychology in everyday life from a biblical perspective. This book is not a commentary on the values of psychology through the eyes of the Scripture, nor is it an evaluation of the Scripture through the eyes of psychology. It is not a theology book, nor is it a criticism of psychology. It is simply an account of modern principles of psychology contained in Scripture.

Book The Psychology of Redemption

Download or read book The Psychology of Redemption written by Oswald Chambers and published by Our Daily Bread Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Christian psychology is not a knowledge of man, but a knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Oswald Chambers begins The Psychology of Redemption with these bold words, challenging us to take the perfect life of Jesus Christ as our model for holy character development. Jesus restored humanity to a right relationship with God, and He demonstrated the holy mind-set of a life set apart to the mission of God’s love. By drawing parallels between the life of Christ and the Christian’s life of faith, Chambers teaches us how to “have the mind of Christ.”

Book Depression Anxiety and the Child of God Daily Devotional

Download or read book Depression Anxiety and the Child of God Daily Devotional written by Scott Kraniak and published by . This book was released on 2017-05-17 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depression, Anxiety, and the Child of God is a book that has been long overdue. It is a book that takes the taboo out of being a Christian and suffering with emotional issues. All throughout the Bible, we see accounts of great people of God being afraid, depressed, panicking, even thinking suicidal thoughts. If the Bible speaks about these issues, why don't we? Far too long the church has been silent and lacking the education to deal with these things. Today is a brave new world with new challenges that pastors and clergy from days gone by never had to deal with--the dismantling of the family unit, pornography, a sexually permissive, anti-Biblical and anti-moral society. The church has lost all of its significance and effectiveness. The church has no clout or relevande today letting the important ones fall to the wayside. We are a laughing stock to the world today, known only by our hatred of certain select peoples and pet peeve sins. Why aren't we known for Christ's love, his redemption available to all, and Christ's high standard of moral excellence? No, we have become like the world and with it we have acquired the world's problems, including depression and anxiety. This devotional and book set (sold separately) attempts to turn all of that on its side just as Christ turned this world upside down. We are due for a flip, and Pastor Scott hope to make that flip back to true Christianity through his life's work put into this project.

Book DEVOTIONAL FOR THOSE COPING WITH TRAGEDY

Download or read book DEVOTIONAL FOR THOSE COPING WITH TRAGEDY written by Terry Overton and published by Christian Publishing House. This book was released on 2018-05-10 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This devotional book follows the author's own faith journey back to God. Significant life events can shake our world and distort our faith. Following life's tragedies, a common reaction is to become angry with God or to reject Him altogether. Examples of tragedies or traumas include life-changing events such as physical or sexual assault, destruction of one's home, the tragic death of a loved one, diagnoses of terminal diseases, divorce, miscarriages, or being a victim of a crime. Tragedies or traumas can cause feelings of anxiety, depression, shame, and guilt. After major tragedies, an individual may be locked in an unhealthy pattern of behavior due to depression and anger. Peacefulness is not within the heart of a person having difficulty with the aftermath of a tragedy. Getting past the event may take years and be fraught with sadness. In this devotional book, the reader will be able to assess their own progress along the pathway back to God. Explanations of the relationship of anxiety, depression, shame, and guilt are provided. Although there are many self-help therapeutic books and resources, this devotional book presents suggestions for coping with tragedies and regaining faith. Along each step of the journey, meaningful Scriptures are provided to help the reader connect back to their faith and to become closer to God.

Description: I have rough notes of these lectures as given in their first form at the Perth Convention in 1914. I sat enthralled at the beauty and power of the truth being given to us. The essential message of this book was expressed then in these words: "In the Life of our Lord.... as Son of Man, when He transformed innocence into holiness by a series of moral choices, He gave the pattern forever of how a holy character was to be developed." It is a basic book. It reminds me of Henry Scougal's Life of God in the Soul of Man, a volume that greatly influenced Whitfield and the Wesleys. That Aberdeen Professor wrote in 1668, "The power and life of religion may be better expressed in actions than in words .... They are perfectly exemplified in the Holy Life of our Blessed Saviour, a main part of whose business in this world was to teach by His practice what He did require of others; and to make His own conversation an exact resemblance of those rules which He prescribed. So that if ever true goodness was visible to mortal eyes it was then when His Presence did beautify and illustrate this lower world." Oswald Chambers here shows us the parallel between our Lord's wondrous life on earth and our life lived in His Name. The psychology of the sanctified life is perfectly illustrated in our Lord's life as set forth in the Gospels. The First Adam mishandled and disarranged his human nature. The Last Adam restored Human Nature to a right working relation to God. When through the Atonement and the New Birth we are lifted into the shared life of our Risen Lord, the same laws of development operate for us as with Him. And "Christian psychology is not a knowledge of man, but a knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." To profit by this book demands concentrated thought, with Bible in hand, and with a humble eagerness to "act on the Word, instead of merely listening to it and deluding yourselves," James i. 22, Moff. This book meets a timely need because it shows how "holiness" works out in human nature as we know it. It shows how sin has taken possession of human nature, but that sin is abnormal. Sin is the outcome of a relationship which God never ordained. Our Lord in His Human Nature cancelled that wrong relationship through His Cross; and established a new relationship. It is in that new relationship we work out that holiness of life and thought and feeling and purpose and service which is the fulfilment of the New Covenant promise. Hebrews viii. 10-12. I pray that the book may prove as great a blessing to many thoughtful students as it has been to some of us for years, bringing them to the Apostolic climax of confession, "For to me to live is Christ."

Book Devotions for Those with Anxiety Disorders

Download or read book Devotions for Those with Anxiety Disorders written by Garrett Jazz Garrett and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FEARS. BOOKS ARE WRITTEN ABOUT THEM, AND MOVIES ARE BASED ON THEM. BUT THE BIBLE SAYS WE DON'T HAVE TO LIVE IN FEAR. Devotions for those with Anxiety Disorders is an easy-to-read devotional. The mind, body, and spirit are the core of the human being. When one is affected the other two can also be affected. Healing can take place in all three areas. Traditionally, therapy has only focused on the mind in treating disorders. In the 1990's, we focused heavily on the affects long term stress can have on the body. Today, we have begun to focus on the spiritual side of a person's life in the treatment of disorders. This book takes it one step further and focuses on not just the spiritual side, but the religious side. It is based on a Christian concept and it will help to alleviate symptoms while working with the mind and body through the reading of the devotions. Along with the scriptures, practical advice about living with anxiety and living life fully with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), panic attacks, and depression is included. Whether a therapist, family member, or a person with an anxiety disorder, the devotions contained in Devotions for those with Anxiety Disorders will provide a welcome relief from daily struggles.
