Book God s Glory in Salvation through Judgment

Download or read book God s Glory in Salvation through Judgment written by James M. Hamilton Jr. and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2010-11-04 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Exodus 34 Moses asks to see God's glory, and God reveals himself as a God who is merciful and just. James Hamilton Jr. contends that from this passage comes a biblical theology that unites the meta-narrative of Scripture under one central theme: God's glory in salvation through judgment. Hamilton begins in the Old Testament by showing that Israel was saved through God's judgment on the Egyptians and the Caananites. God was glorified through both his judgment and mercy, accorded in salvation to Israel. The New Testament unfolds the ultimate display of God's glory in justice and mercy, as it was God's righteous judgment shown on the cross that brought us salvation. God's glory in salvation through judgment will be shown at the end of time, when Christ returns to judge his enemies and save all who have called on his name. Hamilton moves through the Bible book by book, showing that there is one theological center to the whole Bible. The volume's systematic method and scope make it a unique resource for pastors, professors, and students.

Book Four Views on the Role of Works at the Final Judgment

Download or read book Four Views on the Role of Works at the Final Judgment written by Robert N. Wilkin and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a discussion of Biblical texts, this book presents four perspectives on the role of works at the final judgment. The final judgment is the last and final act before God dwells with his people forever. Scripture makes that clear, but what function do our actions play in the final assessment of our souls--especially those of professing Christians? The contributors each state their case for one of four prominent views on the effect of works at the end of time: Robert N. Wilkin: Works will determine rewards but not salvation Thomas R. Schreiner: Works will provide evidence that one actually has been saved James D. G. Dunn: Works will provide the criterion by which Christ will determine eternal destiny of his people Michael P. Barber: Works will merit eternal life This book allows each contributor to not only present the case for his view, but also to critique and respond to the critiques of the other contributors, allowing you to compare their beliefs in an open forum setting to see where they overlap and where they differ. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

  • Pages : 326 pages

Download or read book Coming Soon written by Michael Barber and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there a book of the Bible more often discussed and yet less understood than the Book of Revelation? The "seven seals." The "dragon." The "beast." The "sea of glass." The fantastic imagery found in the Book of Revelation has long captivated Christians but remains mysterious to many. In the midst of so much discussion about the end times, what does Revelation teach us about living in the present moment, with our eyes focused on the heavenly Jerusalem? Michael Barber's Coming Soon explores these questions by taking a detailed look at Revelation and its rich tapestry of prophecy, history, and biblical allusion. Barber explores the profound link between the Mass celebrated here on earth and the eternal reality of heaven, demonstrating that the Apocalypse reveals truth that has practical implications for today and points to a firm hope in tomorrow. Coming Soon is a verse-by-verse commentary on the Book of Revelation using the Revised Standard Version: Catholic Edition of the Bible. Barber provides a Catholic interpretation, which sees the liturgical background of this book of Scripture-a perspective missing in many Protestant commentaries.

Download or read book The Door of Judgment written by Stephen T. Crosby III and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2002-02-22 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent world events have caused many people to wonder about the Second Coming of Christ. Will Jesus return and, if so, how soon? How will He come? What will happen before He does? Many people have developed such a fascination in the Second Coming that it borders upon escapism. They devour popular books devoted to giving the latest news of prophetic fulfillment. For them, millennial fever is rising. Sadly, most of these books offer only shallow and sensationalistic teaching. Thousands of escape all that lies ahead. There is a real need for an in-depth and understandable book about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. In The Door of Judgment, we examine nearly every Scripture that has to do with prophecies of the end-times. Each chapter has a corresponding compilation of supporting verses located in the appendix. We will fit these together like an elaborate jigsaw puzzle, until a beautiful and complete picture of the Second Coming appears. Along the way, the reader will learn the two undeniable and unmistakable signs that show us Jesus is coming back soon. By the end, he will gently come to the awareness that the common evangelical understanding reader will of pretribulationism is not clearly seen in the Scriptures. Without being argumentative, the book demonstrates the weaknesses of the dispensational approach to end-time prophecy, while returning us to the original historic position of the first and second century church.

Book A Revelation of Jesus Christ

Download or read book A Revelation of Jesus Christ written by J.B. Smith and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-05-10 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Introduction by Merrill C. Tenney: This commentary is an attempt to make plain the meaning of Revelation. With commendable reserve, Dr. Smith has restricted himself largely to interpretation by other passages of Scripture which are related to Revelation by actual quotation or by striking parallelism. His painstaking studies of vocabulary and of related ideas make the book valuable to the earnest student of the Bible. Dr. Smith is a futurist and a premillenarian, holding that all of the Book of Revelation beginning with the fourth chapter relates to the future period of judgment known as 'the great tribulation,' which will be followed by the personal return of Christ and by the establishment of His kingdom. In this regard he is in a long line of renowned commentators, including Seiss, Gaebelein, Ottman, and others. The distinguishing feature of this commentary is its use of Biblical statistics and comparisons. The uses of important terms in the Revelation are cataloged, and their interpretation is derived from their context. The appendices contain some extensive studies of individual topics, correlating information not easily obtainable elsewhere. Dr. Smith follows a literal interpretation except where avowed symbolism demands a different procedure. He has sought to make his exposition consistent in method and in results. His use of Greek is apt, and shows a careful investigation of the underlying vocabulary of the Greek text. This commentary will probably be the mainstay of premillennial exposition for some years to come.
