The opinion of the younger Thiersch thus becomes very probable, that it was written at Cwsarea during St. Paul's imprisonment there, an. 58 - 60. The Gospel of St. Matthew was probably written about the same time; and neither Evangelist appears to have used the other, although both made use of that form of oral teaching which the apostles had gradually come to employ.
