Book Biaxial Fatigue of Metals

Download or read book Biaxial Fatigue of Metals written by Jaap Schijve and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-25 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problems of fatigue under multiaxial fatigue loads have been addressed in a very large number of research publications. The present publication is primarily a survey of biaxial fatigue under constant amplitude loading on metal specimens. It starts with the physical understanding of the fatigue phenomenon under biaxial fatigue loads. Various types of proportional and non-proportional biaxial fatigue loads and biaxial stress distributions in a material are specified. Attention is paid to the fatigue limit, crack nucleation, initial micro crack growth and subsequent macro-crack in different modes of crack growth. The interference between the upper and lower surfaces of a fatigue crack is discussed. Possibilities for predictions of biaxial fatigue properties are analysed with reference to the similarity concept. The significance of the present understanding for structural design problems is considered. The book is completed with a summary of major observations.

Book Biaxial Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture

Download or read book Biaxial Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture written by Andrea Carpinteri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) Technical Commitee on Fatigue of Engineering Materials and Structures (TC3) decided to compile a Special Technical Publication (ESIS STP) based on the 115 papers presented at the 6th International Conference on Biaxial/Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture. The 25 papers included in the STP have been extended and revised by the authors. The conference was held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 25-28 June 2001, and was chaired by Manual De Freitas, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon. The meeting, organised by the Instituto Superior Tecnico and sponsored by the Portuguese Minesterio da Cienca e da Tecnologia and by the European Structural Integrity Society, was attended by 151 delegates from 20 countries. The papers in the present book deal with the theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects of the Multiaxial fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and structures. They are divided in to the following six sections; Multiaxial Fatigue of Welded Structures; High cycle Multiaxial fatigue; Non proportional and Variable-Amplitude loading; Defects, Notches, Crack Growth; Low Cycle Multiaxial Fatigue; Applications and Testing Methods. As is well-known, most engineering components and structures in the mechanical, aerospace, power generation, and other industries are subjected to multiaxial loading during their service life. One of the most difficult tasks in design against fatigue and fracture is to translate the information gathered from uniaxial fatigue and fracture tests on engineering materials into applications involving complex states of cyclic stress-strain conditions. This book is the result of co-operation between many researchers from different laboratories, universities and industries in a number of countries.

Book Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture

Download or read book Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture written by E. Macha and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-09-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains 18 papers selected from 90 presented at the Fifth International Conference on Biaxial/Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture held in Cracow, Poland 8-12 September 1997. The papers in this book deal with theoretical, computational and experimental aspects of the multiaxial fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and structures. The papers are divided into the following four categories: 1. Proportional cyclic loading 2. Non-proportional cyclic loading 3. Variable amplitude and random loading 4. Crack growth Most papers in this publication talk about the behaviour of constructional materials and elements of machines under non-proportional loading and under variable amplitude and random loading, which are more realistic load histories met in industrial practice. Variable amplitude loading under cyclic load with basic frequency and random loading under load with a continuous band of frequency is classified here. This book gives a review of the latest world success and directions of investigations on multiaxial fatigue and fracture. More and more often publications are results of the co-operation of researchers from different laboratories and countries. Seven out of eighteen papers included here were worked out by international authors teams. This is a symptom of the times, when science and investigations know no borders.

Book Al Alloy 2024 T4 Cumulative Biaxial Fatigue under Complex Loading

Download or read book Al Alloy 2024 T4 Cumulative Biaxial Fatigue under Complex Loading written by Wael Abdulmajeed and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2013-04-22 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 1997 in the subject Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, , language: English, abstract: A study of metal cumulative fatigue damage at multilevel stress programs using 2024- T 4 AI -Alloy is carried out in this investigation. Specimens are designed and fabricated. The tests are performed under multiaxial fatigue in phase combined loading bending and torsion, with zero mean stress (R=-l) at room temperature. Five groups of multiaxial fatigue experiments are performed, constant amplitude, linear increasing and decreasing, Low-High loading sequence, High-Low loading sequence and equivalent flight loading fatigue. Prediction of life specimens are studied at three methods: Palmgren-Miner, Corten - Dolan, and Marsh. The methods are conservative to some specimens and non-conservative to another. The effects of stage life (ns) have been examined and fatigue life of specimens are decreased when the stage life is decreased. Comparisons between High-Low & Low-High loading sequences in fatigue life (multi stress level) have been investigated. The Low-High loading sequence is less dangerous than High-Low loading sequence at the same stress range (equal loading stages). Studies the effect of stress range fatigue life have been investigated and the fatigue life is decreased with increasing the stress range fatigue (having the same lowest stress). For the fatigue of equivalent flight loading, the life is depend basically on stress range and the cruising interval this two parameters have been studied.

Book Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading Mechanisms Mechanics and Modelling

Download or read book Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading Mechanisms Mechanics and Modelling written by J. Bressers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium "Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading", held at Petten (The Netherlands) on May 22-24, 1995, was jointly organized by the Institute for Advanced Materials of The Joint Research Centre, E. C. , and by the Societe Fran~se de Metallurgie et de Materiaux. The fast heating and cooling cycles experienced by many high temperature components cause thermally induced stresses, which often operate in combination with mechanical loads. The resulting thermal / mechanical fatigue cycle leads to material degradation mechanisms and failure modes typical of service cycles. The growing awareness that the synergism between the combined thermal and mechanical loads can not be reproduced by means of isothermal tests, has resulted in an increasing interest in thermal and thermo-mechanical fatigue testing. This trend has been reinforced by the constant pull by industry for more performant, yet safer high temperature systems, pushing the materials to the limit of their properties. Dedicated ASTM meetings in particular have set the scene for this area of research. The proceedings of the symposium organized by D. A. Spera and D. F. Mowbray in 1975 provided a reference book on thermal fatigue which reflects the knowledge and experimental capabilities of the mid-seventies.
