Download or read book Harmony of Religions written by Thomas Manninezhath and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publ.. This book was released on 1993 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work is an in-depth study of Tayumanavar, a seventeenth century poet-philosopher, mystic and saint of Tamil Nadu. His profoundly philosophical humns were the poet`s creative response to the contesting creeds of his time, reflecting his own intimate religious and mystical experience of God, Siva (Sivanubhava). The present study of Vedanta Siddhanta Samarasam as God-experienced by Dr. Thomas Manninezhath will no doubt, awaken a new interest in the hymns of Tayumanavar and the legacy of religious experience they bequeath to us. Religious experience (anubhava), supported by reason and enriched by reflection, has to be the meeting ground for the followers of World Religions today. It is fascinating to see how Tayumanavar sought to bring about the harmony of two opposed traditions through a re-reading of his own tradition and a re-interpretation of the scholastic Advaita in favour of a more religiously inspiring popular Advaita. The work illustrates how many of our contemporary concerns enshrined in such concepts as Comparative Religion, Ecumenism Religious Dialogue etc. were also a concern within the `household` of Hinduism even as early as seventeenth century A.D. The author`s interpretation of Vedanta Siddhanta Samarasam of Tayumanavar offers a unique basis for religious tolerance and co-existence even in our present-day context of plurality of religions and creeds. That, indeed, speaks volumes for the actuality and relevance of the work.

Book Positive Mind Therapy

Download or read book Positive Mind Therapy written by Rakesh K. Mittal and published by Sterling Publishers Pvt. Ltd. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The common concept of humanity revolves round the personality of an individual and that too is often narrowed down to the physical person which is objective and perceivable as an essential tool for social behaviour. But what lies under this exterior is a whole mass of emotions, responses and reactions which activate the physical personality or else the external form is nothing but a mass of dead and inert matter. These two layers of the human personality are clearly discernible even to an outsider. But there is a subtler undercurrent of ideas, thoughts and impressions which serve as a causative layer to the internal personality and from which the emotions responses and reactions arise. In this book the author has compiled his feelings and experiences at the causative layer depicting how every event of life is a step towards evolution.

Download or read book Maharasa Manjusa written by Prakriti Goswami and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-08-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An annotated translation of Nandadasa’s poetic rendition of the five chapters of rasa-lila in the Bhagavata, highlighting the text’s musical legacy, devotional worship, and Vedantic foundations. Maharasa Manjusa: Sacred Poetry of the Divine Dance provides translation and scholarly commentary of Nandadasa’s five chapters of rasa-lila, collectively known as the rasapancadhyayi. In the Vaisnava tradition propounded by Vallabhacarya, Nandadasa is considered to be one of the eight devotional poets, whose compositions are exquisitely detailed with description of both Krsna’s cosmic form and his divine play. This gradually developed into a distinctive style of performing art, haveli-sangita, which is practiced even today. Maharasa Manjusa: Sacred Poetry of the Divine Dance brings out the poetics, narrative style, and idiosyncrasies of the recitation of devotional poems from the region of Vraja in the 16th Century. An exquisite specimen of devotional poetics, Nandadasa’s Rasapancadhyayi is a Braja-Bhasa rendition of the Bhagavata’s quintet of Maharasa written in Sanskrit verse. The Bhagavata is one of the most beloved texts of Krsna-devotional traditions and the foundational scripture of Braja Vaisnavism and its five chapters describing the divine dance illustrate the ecstatic fruit of devotion. Presenting a devotee’s execution of the Maharasa while examining its interpretative themes underpinned in the epistemology of Vallabhacarya, Maharasa Manjusa: Sacred Poetry of the Divine Dance offers an intensive view of the musical legacy, a devotee’s worshipful interactions, and Vedantic foundations of the ecstatic devotion expressed by Nandada¯sa. The introductory chapters provide first compendious study of the theo-aesthetic, epistemic, and liturgical framework of Pustimarga’s orthopraxis that have fuelled this lyrical delivery. Enriched with annotations, the translations are literal while offering nuanced insights into the colloquial intricacies of Braja-Bhasa poetics and the cultural expressions of the Braja region.

Book The Congress in Tamilnad

Download or read book The Congress in Tamilnad written by David Arnold and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although primarily defined in cultural terms, as the land of the Tamil-speaking people, Tamilnad’s geographical location in the south-eastern corner of the Indian sub-continent has enabled it to develop and maintain a distinctive character. The story of the Congress in Tamilnad has two essential themes. One is the evolution of the Tamil Congress as a regional political party. The second is the changing relationship between a nationalist movement and a colonial regime. Examining in close detail these themes, this book, first published in 1977, presents the story of the Congress in Tamilnad as a case-study of how nationalist parties evolved during the later stages of colonialism.

Book Toward a Free Economy

  • Author : Aditya Balasubramanian
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2023-07-18
  • ISBN : 0691249296
  • Pages : 352 pages

Download or read book Toward a Free Economy written by Aditya Balasubramanian and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unknown history of economic conservatism in India after independence Neoliberalism is routinely characterized as an antidemocratic, expert-driven project aimed at insulating markets from politics, devised in the North Atlantic and projected on the rest of the world. Revising this understanding, Toward a Free Economy shows how economic conservatism emerged and was disseminated in a postcolonial society consistent with the logic of democracy. Twelve years after the British left India, a Swatantra (“Freedom”) Party came to life. It encouraged Indians to break with the Indian National Congress Party, which spearheaded the anticolonial nationalist movement and now dominated Indian democracy. Rejecting Congress’s heavy-industrial developmental state and the accompanying rhetoric of socialism, Swatantra promised “free economy” through its project of opposition politics. As it circulated across various genres, “free economy” took on meanings that varied by region and language, caste and class, and won diverse advocates. These articulations, informed by but distinct from neoliberalism, came chiefly from communities in southern and western India as they embraced new forms of entrepreneurial activity. At their core, they connoted anticommunism, unfettered private economic activity, decentralized development, and the defense of private property. Opposition politics encompassed ideas and practice. Swatantra’s leaders imagined a conservative alternative to a progressive dominant party in a two-party system. They communicated ideas and mobilized people around such issues as inflation, taxation, and property. And they made creative use of India’s institutions to bring checks and balances to the political system. Democracy’s persistence in India is uncommon among postcolonial societies. By excavating a perspective of how Indians made and understood their own democracy and economy, Aditya Balasubramanian broadens our picture of neoliberalism, democracy, and the postcolonial world.
