Book excerpt: All men know that they must die... It is but reasonable to suppose that God would reveal something in reference to the matter and it is a subject we ought to study more than any other. If we have any claim on our Heavenly Father for anything, it is for knowledge on this important subject (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Vol. 6 pg. 50). If you enjoyed Return from Tomorrow, if you liked Life after Life, you are going to love Beyond the Veil, Volume III. As I began listening to, and reading [these] stories, I was amazed at the variety of content and experience. I was amazed at the vast abundance of spiritual experiences people are having that have something to do with that thin veil separating us from our spirit brothers and sisters. It is refreshing to know that miracles are happening every day. I hope this book, in its own small way, can add a little strength or momentum to this groundswell. -Lee Nelson

Book excerpt: What if you were told that your grandfather is coming by the house tonight but you know that statement can't be true because he's dead and his funeral is tomorrow? I was twelve years old at the time when I heard those words. This was my first introduction into the world of malevolent demonic spirits. You will see exactly what spiritual warfare is really like--no red glowing eyes, no green vomit, no unusual smells, no possession, no levitation, and no flies. You will see what evil really does--what I did and the mistakes I made. You will see what the Holy Spirit showed me, what he told me to do, and how he protected and helped me to overcome the evil that came to my residence. This extremely interesting book, Beyond the Thin Veil, was written as a collection of short stories tied together, creating a series of short scenes within a larger story. Named after a prophet in the Bible, the author sets out to write stories of significant events about himself and the people that were important in his life in an entertaining and uniquely original story. Being born out of wedlock, Black, and with a Jewish first name, then being told when he was in the fifth grade that he had been adopted, turned his whole life upside down. He struggles in meeting his biological mom and his brothers and sisters for the first time. He found the inner strength and courage to push through those childhood years. Knowing little to nothing of his family's history, the author sets out to make sure that his defendants get a glimpse into his life, something that they wouldn't find on ancestry.com. Who doesn't like a good story? Like the Roman military tribune Clavius (Joseph Fiennes) in the movie Risen, the author took a similar journey that made me question my own held beliefs in spirituality, religion, and the supernatural, and I discovered many truths about my experiences. The book is original, dynamic, informative, unbelievable, entertaining, and true; it's quite a tale. And if you are fascinated by the supernatural and want to know more about the Holy Spirit, angels, demons, and spiritual warfare, then you will enjoy reading about his encounters with spirits, good and bad. How his faith in God strengthened him after receiving a Cancer diagnosis while writing the book. He will take you on an adventurous roller-coaster journey of emotional highs and lows. The author believes in the biblical truths and God's promises that he heard when he was a child. Attending a small church in California, he has put into practice those teachings and principles of faith, overcoming fear and life's hurdles. Nathan believes "When you take this journey through these pages, you will find that faith overcomes fear." The author encourages you to find your God-given purpose in life, to see your Boaz, God's providence, God's interventions in your life. Don't just survive--thrive!

Book excerpt: An atmospheric tale of corruption and abduction set on Mars, from the author of the award-winning science fiction novel Altered Carbon, now an exciting new series from Netflix. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY THE GUARDIAN Hakan Veil is an ex–corporate enforcer equipped with military-grade body tech that’s made him a human killing machine. His former employers have abandoned him on a turbulent Mars where Earth-based overlords battle for profits and power amid a homegrown independence movement. But he’s had enough of the red planet, and all he wants is a ticket back home—which is just what he’s offered by the Earth Oversight organization, in exchange for being the bodyguard for an EO investigator. It’s a beyond-easy gig for a heavy hitter like Veil . . . until it isn’t. When Veil’s charge starts looking into the mysterious disappearance of a lottery winner, it stirs up a hornet’s nest of intrigue and murder. And the deeper Veil is drawn into the game, the more long-buried secrets claw their way to the Martian surface. Now it’s the expert assassin poised against powerful enemies hellbent on taking him down—by any means necessary. Praise for Thin Air “Kick-ass . . . Mixed in with the thriller-esque action and cyberpunk backdrop is a hard-boiled noir story complete with a twisting and turning plot that keeps readers on their toes.”—Los Angeles Times “Richard K. Morgan wants to destroy your Mars fantasies. . . . It’s a grim vision, but one that Morgan finds far more plausible than the cheerful visions of plucky Mars colonists common in sci-fi.”—Wired “A robotically enhanced Jack Reacher [in a] dazzlingly intricate game of political double- and triple-cross, spiced with tastily kinetic battle sequences.”—The Guardian “If you ever imagined that the core esthetics and themes of cyberpunk—lowlifes and high tech; corporate dominance; future noir; post-human evolution and cyborg adaptations; hardscrabble urban environments—were played out, Thin Air will set you straight, and kick your butt in the process. . . . Both kinematic and cinematic, [Thin Air is] limned by Morgan with balletic precision and smashmouth grace.”—Paul Di Filippo, Locus

Book Books In Brief Rethinking Muslim Women The Veil

Download or read book Books In Brief Rethinking Muslim Women The Veil written by Katherine Bullock and published by International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until now the bulk of the literature about the veil has been written by outsiders who do not themselves veil. This literature often assumes a condescending tone about veiled women, assuming that they are making uninformed decisions choices about veiling makes them subservient to a patriarchal culture and religion. “Rethinking Muslim Women and the Veil” offers an alternative viewpoint, based on the thoughts and experiences of Muslim women themselves. This is the first time a clear and concise book-length argument has been made for the compatibility between veiling and modernity. Katherine Bullock uncovers positive aspects of the veil that are frequently not perceived by outsiders. “Rethinking Muslim Women and the Veil” looks at the colonial roots of the negative Western stereotype of the veil. It presents interviews with Muslim women to discover their thoughts and experiences with the veil in Canada. The book also offers a positive theory of veiling. The author argues that in consumer capitalist cultures, women can find wearing the veil a liberation from the stifling beauty game that promotes unsafe and unhealthy ideal body images for women. This book also includes an extensive bibliography on topics related to Muslim women and the veil.

Book The Front of Beyond and Other Curious Tales

Download or read book The Front of Beyond and Other Curious Tales written by Peter Edwards and published by Virtualbookworm Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A doorway to a strange, parallel world - that looks surprisingly (and rather disappointingly) like our own. A historian seeking evidence of ESP in Victorian London stumbles on a group who condemn him, as a man who knows too much, to a ghastly fate. And a man who discovers his mother is older than he thought. Much older. It's all here in these sixteen stories, ranging from the macabre to the downright zany. Written over a period of twenty years, these curious tales reflect one man's love of the sci-fi and horror worlds. From the moment he picked up a lurid copy of "Princess of Mars," the author was hooked. There's a spoof of the EC genre where zombies talk dirty and a tip of the hat to the Weekly World News. There are gruesome stories that dredge up ancient magic from darker times. And there are tales of glittering starships and heroes with laser guns dangling from the hip. This is the world where science and fantasy mingle, a world where. the spaceship lands by the haunted castle.
