Book Beyond the Structuralist Myth of Ecriture

Download or read book Beyond the Structuralist Myth of Ecriture written by Carstea Daniela and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike a historian, an anthropologist drawing on fieldwork cannot - not even in theory - control all the available evidence and render it "truthfully." A community is not a finite archive. Unlike a psychiatric expert, moreover, an anthropologist cannot claim to have met alone with the subject - a "culture." In order to obtain a more in-depth analysis of the anthropological subject, the book undertakes a psychoanalytical investigation, with the "toolkit" provided by theoreticians of the field in the wake of Jacques Lacan, of Clifford Geertz's "Deep Play. Notes on the Balinese Cockfight."

Book The Methods of the Gernet Classicists RLE Myth

Download or read book The Methods of the Gernet Classicists RLE Myth written by Roland A. Champagne and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gernet Centre was founded as a place where the structural method could be applied to the classics. ‘Structuralists’ attribute the survival, origin and function of myths to common crosscultural factors they identify as ‘structures’. As this book, first published as The Structuralists on Myth in 1992 explains, these structures are bundles of information not obvious either to the narrator or to the listener. The bundles are collected features that reveal either the reasons for the survival of myths, or their origins, or their functions within their contexts. The structuralists consider themselves to have talents as the collectors from myths of these bundles of information.

Download or read book The Rise of Eurocentrism written by Vassilis Lambropoulos and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the controversy over political correctness, the canon, and the curriculum, the role of Western tradition in a post-modern world is often debated. To clarify what is at stake, Vassilis Lambropoulos traces the ideology of European culture from the Reformation, focusing on a key element of Western tradition: the act of interpretation as a distinct practice of understanding and a civil right. Championed by Protestants insisting on independent interpretation of scripture, this ideal of autonomy ushered in the era of modernity with its essentialist philosophy of universal man and his aesthetic understanding of the world. After explaining the dominance of European culture through the combined archetypes of Hebraism (reason and morality) and Hellenism (spirit and art), Lambropoulos shows how the rule of autonomy has been transformed into the aesthetic, disinterested contemplation of things in themselves. Arguing that it is time to restore the socio-political dimension to the movement of autonomy, he proposes that a genealogy of the Hebraic-Hellenic archetypes can help us evaluate more recent models--like the Afrocentric one--and redefine the controversy surrounding education, Eurocentrism, and cultural politics.

Book Jacques Derrida Routledge Revivals

Download or read book Jacques Derrida Routledge Revivals written by William Schultz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-17 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1992, this book represents the first major attempt to compile a bibliography of Derrida’s work and scholarship about his work. It attempts to be comprehensive rather than selective, listing primary and secondary works from the year of Derrida’s Master’s thesis in 1954 up until 1991, and is extensively annotated. It arranges under article type a huge number of works from scholars across numerous fields — reflecting the interdisciplinary and controversial nature of Deconstruction. The substantial introduction and annotations also make this bibliography, in part, a critical guide and as such will make a highly useful reference tool for those studying his philosophy.

Download or read book Beyond criture F minine written by Cathy Helen Wardle and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Beyond 'Ecriture feminine' is the first book to be published exploring the work of the contemporary French author Jeanne Hyvrard (1945-) from her early novels of the 1970s up to some of her most recent texts. Moving critical accounts of Hyvrard beyond a focus upon ecriture feminine, it identifies the patterns though which her writing repeats and transforms creation mythology, her own oeuvre, and her own life, examining how intertextual repetitions bind her work together into a complex and ever expanding web of allusions and resonnances which engages the reader in a process of constant re-interpretation, challenging notions of linearity and reflecting the 'chaotic' reality of life in the Hyvrardian world."--BOOK JACKET.

Book The Poverty of Structuralism

Download or read book The Poverty of Structuralism written by Leonard Jackson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Poverty of Structuralism is the first in a sequence of volumes which examine in turn the basic ideas of Saussure, Marx and Freud, and analyse the way in which they have been developed and applied to art, culture and modern textual theory. The text offers a critical introduction to the structuralist foundations of modern literary theory. It gives an account of the way such foundations have been developed, twisted and distorted to become part of the language that contemporary literary and cultural theoreticians use. It also addresses some of the fundamental issues about language and society that are presupposed by the often difficult language of modern literary and cultural theory.
