Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One Army Colonel. One alien leader. One prophecy. The fate of Earth is in their hands. Can they come together in enough time to save it before an old enemy arrives? Army Ranger Colonel Morgan Langtree has awoken from cryogenic stasis to discover that her own world has become alien to her. Earth, now a virtual Garden of Eden, is both beautiful - and dangerous. Now responsible for all of the survivors of the Area 51 base, Langtree sets out to discover what happened to her world... ...and why they slept for 1,500 years longer than intended. Following her late commanding officer's instructions, Langtree and her team set off for the Belize Valley Area and the city of Lamanai. She finds a thriving society based on Central American Indians of millennia before in the remains of the city as well as the Lamanai's gods. Enter Lord Jericho Juriath, the charismatic leader of a race of aliens known as the Allorvians. He has brought the remainder of his people to Earth, a planet his own ancestors helped seed long before the birth of Christ. Earth was to be a safe haven, a thriving planet his people could settle on, disappearing into human society. But, like Colonel Langtree, Juriath has found a world devoid of cities and technology. With too many riddles that need solving - and a prophecy he's not sure he believes in - Juriath is left wondering what happened. Both leaders are forced to make a choice: forge an alliance with one another or go their own way. Can they move past their differences and find love, securing the prophecy that will save both of their people before the Allorvian's enemies find them? Or are they doomed to repeat history and become slaves to a race older than time?

Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah comes a powerful novel of love, loss, and the magic of friendship. . . . now a #1 Netflix series! In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the "coolest girl in the world" moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all---beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever; by summer's end they've become TullyandKate. Inseparable. So begins Kristin Hannah's magnificent new novel. Spanning more than three decades and playing out across the ever-changing face of the Pacific Northwest, Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives. From the beginning, Tully is desperate to prove her worth to the world. Abandoned by her mother at an early age, she longs to be loved unconditionally. In the glittering, big-hair era of the eighties, she looks to men to fill the void in her soul. But in the buttoned-down nineties, it is television news that captivates her. She will follow her own blind ambition to New York and around the globe, finding fame and success . . . and loneliness. Kate knows early on that her life will be nothing special. Throughout college, she pretends to be driven by a need for success, but all she really wants is to fall in love and have children and live an ordinary life. In her own quiet way, Kate is as driven as Tully. What she doesn't know is how being a wife and mother will change her . . . how she'll lose sight of who she once was, and what she once wanted. And how much she'll envy her famous best friend. . . . For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship---jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they've survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart . . . and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test. Firefly Lane is for anyone who ever drank Boone's Farm apple wine while listening to Abba or Fleetwood Mac. More than a coming-of-age novel, it's the story of a generation of women who were both blessed and cursed by choices. It's about promises and secrets and betrayals. And ultimately, about the one person who really, truly knows you---and knows what has the power to hurt you . . . and heal you. Firefly Lane is a story you'll never forget . . . one you'll want to pass on to your best friend.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A bountiful smorgasbord of classic and lesser known stories by accomplished Kentucky writers who provide a feast for readers of modern short fiction.” —Ann Charters, author of The Story and Its Writer With an introduction by Wade Hall Morris Grubbs has sifted through vintage classics, little-known gems, and stunning debuts to assemble this collection of forty stories by popular and critically acclaimed writers. In subtle and profound ways, they challenge and overturn accepted stereotypes about the land their authors call home, whether by birth or by choice. Kentucky writers have produced some of the finest short stories published in the last fifty years, much of which focuses on the tension between the comforts of community and the siren-like lure of the outside world. Arranged chronologically, from Robert Penn Warren’s “Blackberry Winter” to Crystal E. Wilkinson’s “Humming Back Yesterday,” these stories are linked by their juxtaposition of departures and returns, the familiar and the unknown, home and beyond. “The story of the Commonwealth of Kentucky is told and retold by a mixed but balanced chorus of voices that sings like the wind down the ridges and along the creekbeds.” —Appalachian Journal “Readers needn’t be from Kentucky to appreciate these stories . . . Prepare to be wowed by these superior examples of the form.” —The Bloomsbury Review “From Robert Penn Warren to Bobbie Ann Mason, Kentucky hatches writers like other states create tourist traps.” —The Nashville Tennessean “If you love Kentucky authors, this anthology of short stories is a must for your Kentucky collection.” —Bourbon Times

Book excerpt: Skillfully combining complex science with finely executed prose, these edgy, award-winning tales explore the always-shifting border between the known and the alien. The beauty and peril of technology and the passion and penalties of conviction merge in stories that are by turns dark, satiric, bold, and introspective. A seemingly humanized monster from John Carpenter’s The Thing reveals the true villains in an Antarctic showdown. An artificial intelligence shields a biologically-enhanced prodigy from her overwhelmed parents. A deep-sea diver discovers that her true nature lies not within the confines of her mission but in the depths of her psyche. A court psychologist analyzes a psychotic graduate student who has learned to reprogram reality itself. A father tries to hold his broken family together in the wake of an ongoing assault by sentient rainstorms. Gorgeously saturnine and exceptionally powerful, these collected fictions are both intensely thought-provoking and impossible to forget.

Book excerpt: I don't need a bodyguard. My stalker is fake. I’m positive those letters were written by my controlling, ultra-religious father so he'd have an excuse to hire someone to watch my every move. It's just my luck that he's a U.S. Senator and my new bodyguard is a Secret Service agent with one strike left. It's worse luck that my new bodyguard isn't just hot, he's... nice. Gabriel treats me like I'm more than a bargaining chip or a potential wife to do his cooking and cleaning. He laughs at my jokes. He listens to my opinions. When he thinks I'm hurt, he goes ballistic. And when he catches me sneaking out of my family’s house, he keeps my secret. He even buys me a drink. Just because he's sweet, protective, and fills out a suit like nobody's business doesn't mean I can trust him. He's still working for my father, and his job is on the line. If only that were enough to keep me from sneaking into his room every night. Now we're keeping a secret that could ruin us both. I need a way out. He needs a way back in. There's no way this can work, but I've always had faith. Safekeeping is a high-heat standalone romance. It's for fans of bodyguards, super-protective heroes, high-stakes secret relationships, and anyone who's been at odds with their family. The hero is a Secret Service agent who's not about to let anyone touch the heroine, and the heroine is plucky, brave, and not afraid to find her own way. It's a steamy, high-stakes story, and of course there's an HEA! This standalone is for fans of Lauren Landish, Nicole Snow, Cate C. Wells, and Anna Hackett. Safekeeping was originally published as Slow Burn by Roxie Noir.
