Book Beyond the Stained Glass Window

Download or read book Beyond the Stained Glass Window written by Neville Hodgson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-12 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about one man’s journey to find himself and his place in the world, both spiritually and career-wise, and how his conventional views of the world, encompassing orthodox religion and old conforming and traditional ways, were radically changed by some extraordinary events during early education, travel, a career-switch to clinical psychology, and a powerful dream that led to a profound spiritual awakening. He worked in mental hospitals during the apartheid era and at the time of the un-banning of the ANC, and later began a private practice. The book has some historical value since the author’s grandfather was a great friend of General Smuts and was the Mayor of Benoni, a South African gold-mining town, during the turbulent wild-strike days of 1922, when his grandfather’s house was burned down by white strikers. The author’s mother attended the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games and sat near Adolf Hitler during the swimming events.

Book excerpt: The reality of a stained glass ceiling is familiar to most women called to the pastorate. Despite being more likely to be seminary educated, female clergy constitute less than 10 percent of Protestant leading pastorates and those who do hold such pastorates are generally paid less than their male counterparts. In light of such statistics, Pastor Chris Smith explores how to overcome the challenges in breaking through the stained glass ceiling and she goes a step further. She shares the lessons learned and best practices of the success stories those women who are currently serving in solo or senior pastorates. Based on a national survey of female clergy, this volume is rich in insights based on data as well as personal anecdotes insights that will empower not only women called to the pastorate but also their male colleagues and denominational leaders who want to support them.

Book excerpt: The 1970s and 1980s brought significant changes in mainline Protestant denominations in the United States - namely, changes regarding women’s right to ordination. Yet, despite more than half-century since those changes began, the representation of women in the clergy of these denominations remains relatively low and the challenges faced by women clergy to live out their calls are unceasing. This is because the changes to the church never included changing the patriarchal structures on which the church, like all systems, have been built. This project explores the ways that women clergy have been forced to navigate around these oppressions, the messaging they have been given, and what happens when they are inevitably restricted by their identity. As this project will show, the way forward that will be a source of true liberation for all of God’s people means deconstructing these oppressions and building a truly feminist church.

Book excerpt: Meet the ministers and laypeople driving foundational Christian theological change and restoring awareness of the sacred value of women and girls. “The Bible teaches that we are made in the image and likeness of God; therefore, I must believe that there is a male and female expression of God…. Claim your divinity and walk in it every day, because you are fearfully and wonderfully made.” —Rev. Dr. Susan Newman, “Claiming Our Divinity” In a world filled with injustice and violence, we long for a new sacred symbolism to inspire transformation. Our yearning includes a widespread hunger for visions of the Female Divine in church life and worship to restore gender-balance and finally achieve just, equal and inclusive faith communities. This collection of engrossing narratives of women and men trying to change the institutional church—and society—illuminates how reclaiming multicultural female images of God extends beyond the sanctuary and into the community. Whether you’re searching for your own place in the church or you want to explore this growing movement, these fascinating pioneers invite you to join the adventure of creating rituals that include Her, affirming the sacred value of all people and all creation.

Book Beyond the Veil

Download or read book Beyond the Veil written by David A. Gatwood and published by Gatwood Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04-01 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes a story has more than two sides—this one, for example. When both sides in an intergalactic civil war believe that the other side is committing terrorist acts, only one thing is certain: both sides are wrong. The truth lies beyond the veil. When two civilians and a space station engineer discover who destroyed the starship Hrabrost, they must find each other and find help before the killers find them. Only by working together with Admiral Jenkins and his daughter, Amanda, can they stop the killers before they destroy the Terran Alliance from the inside. From mechlizards to anthropoveils, from political asylum to the insane asylum, this book peels away another layer of the onion-like story first told by the first two books in the series, Traitors In Waiting and Enemies From Within. Intricately woven around the previous stories, this book tells a new tale that will leave you reinterpreting everything you have read so far. Klern waited in the short hall that led to a maintenance tube along the outer perimeter of the landing pad—a tube that, in turn, led to the port weapons battery. Klern brandished the machete, running his finger gently along the length of the blade, carefully checking its sharpness without drawing blood. The trap was set and baited, his breath bated, his bloodlust nearly sated. It would only be a matter of time before Pierre came around the corner. Klern could hear his footsteps in the distance. Yes. Yes, he thought. Come closer. Closer. It will all be over soon. When worlds collide, only two things are certain: everything you thought you knew is wrong, and the people you thought you knew are no longer who they appear to be.
