He had originally been hired by the parents to locate their child. Now he is back in Mongolia, comforting grieving in-laws. Chanda’s sister, Mei, a stunningly beautiful Mongolian woman, with Chinese ancestors, is with Jake in her parent’s ger when Lama Namsray arrives and tells Jake that the Grand Regent is in need of his services. Contacting the Grand Regent will require an arduous trek by horseback up into the sacred mountains, where only a privileged few are permitted. A steppe soldier is traveling with Lama Namsray, to protect him; armed with an AK47. Jake is a policeman turned lawyer and has the ear of the Grand Regent. One of the young men who was born in the mysterious valley has gone rogue and become a drug dealer and murderer in Southern California. He needs to be stopped and the Grand Regent is about to give Jake the assignment. Mei, who is twenty-five, with almond eyes and raven hair that hangs to her waist, informs Jake and Lama Namsray that she is going with them. The Lama tells her that will be impossible, outsiders are not allowed into the secret Lamasery. She informs him, “I’m going.” Lama Namsray, the second most powerful lama in the sacred dzong, explains that the Grand Regent would never permit it. Mei says, “I know about the gold mine, I know about the child Grand Lama and I know about the secret entrance into the valley. I’m going.” Jake sides with Mei and she accompanies him on the dangerous journey into the mountains. She also accompanies him to Southern California where they do battle with the drug lord and his thugs. Events become so dangerous they have to call upon the ancient Order of the Tu Tung. A mysterious Lamasery, a handsome lawyer, a beautiful Mongolian woman and a clandestine order of assassins, wrapped tightly together with dragon-emblazoned fabric from the Great Silk Road.

The killer had been meticulous, leaving the body on an expensive yoga mat with the feet facing east. Jeff was tall at six feet, three inches. He was well built and weighed two hundred and twenty-five muscular pounds. Working out at his gym three days a week kept him in good physical condition. The women in his division thought he was extremely handsome, with light brown hair and fascinating gray eyes. His partner was shorter and less handsome. Jeff was by far the cleverer of the two and suspected this carefully planned murder might be the first of a repeater, a serial killer. Jeff’s suspicions were vindicated with the second body, this time left in a different division; causing interdivision rivalry. This body was also naked, covered with red carnations petals and blossoms. Again the breasts and pubic area had been left uncovered. Jeff was doing his best to keep the media from discovering that a serial killer was on the loose. His hopes for keeping the media in the dark were dashed when he was contacted by Cinda, a reporter for Los Angeles Magazine. Cinda was a strikingly beautiful young Black woman who was as clever as Jeff. She put two and two together and came up with serial killer. She offers Jeff a deal that he cannot refuse. To compound Jeff’s problems, the clues continue to point to religion, rather than serial murder. Why would a religious organization be murdering young women and leaving a trail of clues for Jeff to follow? Another naked young woman is found, covered in red flower petals, with clues again pointing toward religion; possibly a new religion. If Jeff is going to prevent any more young women from being murdered, he will have to find the killer and do it quickly. Just as important, he needs to keep him and Cinda from becoming the killer’s next victims.

He found his Gypsy, only she was five feet six inches tall, with a raven-black ponytail that came to her waist, haunting eyes that probed deep into his soul, breasts that caused traffic accidents and legs crafted by the Gods on the Hill of the Five Jackals. Together they begin to investigate the deaths of the gang officers, apparently killed by something that could not exist. Their investigating causes problems because law enforcement did not want the public to become aware of serial killings by a creature that can kill and slip away undetected: leaving only fang marks, claw wounds and hair for evidence. Now it is Brad and Mahala who are fighting a two-front war, law enforcement on one side and a creature that cannot be real on the other.

Following Russel, Brad arrives, then Tioga, the final arrival; all with packets awaiting them. They attempt to discover what common denominator put them on the mysterious dirt road. It is not age or race or gender or occupation that links them. Brad finally forces the other four to accept the unacceptable, they were all murdered. One by one they relate the painful events that led up to their deaths. Tioga asks the burning question, “Did we die yesterday, five years ago or a decade ago?” Brad suggests the packets with their names on them might hold the answer. He further proposes they open them in the order of their arrival. Sara is leery, because she was the first to arrive. Her courage needs bolstering. One by one they discover the contents of the packets. Each packet contains everything they would need to confront the people that murdered them. Brad askes the other four, “Is there anyone here who wants to turn the other cheek?” Narrowed eyes and looks of revenge answer his question. Armed with everything they will need for retribution, they leave on five quests of repayment in like coin. Will justice be painful and swift? Will justice even be achieved? Will they again find themselves on the enigmatic dirt road? Only the force that is powerful enough to bring them back from the grave knows the answer.
