Download or read book Beyond Awareness written by Diana Pastora Carson and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Awareness: Bringing Disability into Diversity Work in K-12 Schools & Communities is the culmination of years of passionate and transformative work. The author's Beyond Awareness events and focus have earned her multiple local media articles and news segments, the honor of Teacher of the Year, California State PTA Awards for Advocacy & Outreach, and national attention leading to inquiries and trainings. This book takes the well-intentioned, but outdated and counter-productive disability awareness (or ability awareness) models of disability awareness and replaces them with modern, research-based, anti-ableist approaches to teaching about disability. By shifting our attention away from diagnoses, and focusing on ableism, access, assistive technology, disability civil rights history, and respectful language, we can truly be change agents for a more inclusive future. Not only does this book teach readers about these fundamentals, but it also provides ideas for dignity-based presentations to young people. At a time when educators and community members need anti-bullying and social justice curricula and ideas, this essential book will complement, enhance, and make more inclusive, your efforts toward complete diversity appreciation.

He was a founding father of the modern environmental movement and creator of one of the most influential public awareness campaigns ever undertaken on behalf of global environmental stewardship: Earth Day. Nelson died in 2005, but his message in this book is still timely and urgent, delivered with the same eloquence with which he articulated the nation’s environmental ills throughout the decades. He details the planet’s most critical concerns—from species and habitat losses to global climate change and population growth. In outlining strategies for planetary health, Nelson inspires citizens to reassert environmentalism as a national priority. Included in this reprint is a new preface by Gaylord Nelson’s daughter, Tia Nelson.
Download or read book Beyond Hybrid Working written by Andy Lake and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much more than a book about flexible working, Beyond Hybrid Working is an engaging and practical management book to help organisations rethink all aspects of traditional work in the emerging post-pandemic landscape and reap the benefits from working smarter. Many organisations that had rapidly improvised and implemented Hybrid Working now want to take a more strategic approach. ‘Smart Working’ is being adopted across sectors, from technology companies, through the financial services sector to the public sector. Andy Lake has supported implementations in businesses and public sector organisations for nearly 30 years, including advising the UK Cabinet Office. He sets out a strategic, comprehensive and integrated approach to Smart Working in the context of new possibilities for working on a more distributed basis, and the impact of new AI-based technologies coming over the horizon. He also explores the possibilities for greater flexibility for workers with hands-on and site-specific roles. Featuring detailed case studies, the book takes a pragmatic and evidence-based approach covering different sectors and types of work, and presents practical techniques for implementing change. This is essential reading for anyone involved in transformational workplace change and increasing the efficiency of organisations. It is written for managers who need to deliver change, and professionals and researchers in the fields of People, Workplace and Technology.
Download or read book Beyond Impunity written by R. Ross and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2022-01-09 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive, compelling, accessible and timely volume should be compulsory reading to academics, policy makers, social activists, and the general public in Malawi and elsewhere on the continent. The accounts the authors present of the pervasive dysfunctions of Malawi's troubled experiment with multiparty democracy since the mid-1990s, and the endlessly deferred dreams of development, are often dispiriting. Yet, their bleak diagnoses are often accompanied by ameliorative prescriptions that are simultaneously bold and pragmatic. The book exudes a sense of hope that the struggles for a better future will continue. In itself the book represents a testament to the possibilities of the country's democratic dispensation, the need to unflinchingly confront the country's debilitating political and socioeconomic pathologies. Such a text would have been unthinkable during the dictatorship of the founding president, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
Download or read book From Awareness to Commitment in Public Health Campaigns written by Myleea D. Hill and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-06-27 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attempts to raise awareness on a multitude of health issues may actually be counter-productive and even dangerous to solving contemporary health problems. From Awareness to Commitment in Public Health Campaigns: The Awareness Myth discusses several myths of the benefits of raising awareness. Myleea Hill and Marceline Thompson-Hayes argue that using awareness as an end-point in public health campaigns is misguided and does more harm than good. They offer a model of the current awareness culture that simply leads to an ever-increasing cycle of awareness without behavioral change or sustained participation and support for causes. Then, they demonstrates how three factors (recognition involvement, knowledge-seeking and education, and participation) intersect to create commitment to solving and alleviating health problems through various methods of communication (social media, mass communication, and interpersonal communication).
Download or read book Beyond EGO written by Attila Mády and published by Mády Attila. This book was released on 2022-05-03 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Content · A word about the Book and myself 3 · Recommendation 5 0. FOREWORD 6 More and more people are looking for answers to life's big questions. Who this way, who that way. Some are desperate, and some are easily. However, this is not really important, because we are all different. The type of person who wants to spiritually "solve" the problems that arise and already has the connections can begin to smile. He knows that things happen for a reason, that he is not where he is by chance, that he is not by chance with the people he is with, and even if he does not know all the answers, he becomes richer and more balanced with each recognition. This is the force that always pushes man through his own limitations and makes himself more complete day by day. 6 Dear Friend! 7 · I'd like to draw your attention to a few things. 7 What does this book want? 8 I. EGO 10 I see that all suffering, all spiritual anguish, has the same original cause: the unbridled EGO. This damn little jerk who always invents something to make our lives miserable as soon as we're not on guard enough. 10 What is EGO? 11 Why there is EGO? 17 What can someone do about controlling his EGO? 25 Ego and workplace 32 EGO and money 34 EGO and succes 36 EGO and art 37 EGO and health 38 EGO and GOD 39 EGO and pure LOVE 40 EGO and family 42 II. THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONSCIOUSNESS 44 We are born, we grow up, we grow old and we die. This is the development cycle of our body. The same can be observed with everything that is part of the physical universe. Even with our thoughts, our emotions. Although we ourselves are static, that is, we cannot determine our extent, our place as spiritual beings, our beliefs, our characteristics placed on us, and our EGO are constantly changing. What changes we are going through, what stages of development we are going through, and where we are now, can be easily determined by the following. 44 III. RELATIONSHIP 46 About the conflict of interest between the WOMAN and the MALE EGO, their game against each other, the bitters and pleasures of love, the difficulties of relationships and I could list the labels, how much you have written books, poems, music, songs, how many films we have seen on the subject. But to this day, the problem has remained in the field of mysticism. Yet how many wise and sound solutions have been found to find a way out of the maze of relationships for poor mortals on earth. 46 EGO and love 47 · The fundamental EGO differences between man and woman 49 Christmas tree effect 49 IV. DETERMINATION 52 Stepping out of the shadow of my EGO, I am illuminated by the light of infinite goodness, beauty and creativity. It's not an easy task, but I'm grateful that I've decided not to give up and take back control of my life, even if I have to do without a comfortable bed, a big house or a luxury yacht for a while. 52 Changes 53 V. ENLIGHTENMENT 55 Enlightenment is the realization of how you are. The question "who am I?" can be answered with an almost infinite number of answers. Each answer, however, ends in one ultimate truth. Finding this ultimate truth will end your life so far and you can start living a true, conscious life. What is the ultimate truth? That you are EVERYTHING AND NOTHING. In the moment of enlightenment, you realize that you are all the answers that have come to mind to the question, and at the same time you are neither. You are the option of any answer. You can be anything. And at the same time, you don't have to be anything. You decide who you are at every moment, what personality traits you have, and what kind of person you live as. 55 To live in an enlightened life 56 VI. DISCOVERING OURSELVES 58 You have certainly heard the good advice to be yourself and not to worry about other people's value judgments. I'm sure they've told you to be true to yourself. I see that people of mortal faith have no idea what this means exactly. 58 The first step: the need for self-knowledge 59 Step two: find a way 60 · Meditation 60 · Spiritual recreation 60 · Opening up to the world 61 · Self-acceptance and change 61 · Acceptance and change of our interior 61 · Acceptance and change of our appearance 62 · Acceptance and change of others 62 · Fruition 62 · Vigilance 62 · Summary 63 VII. MEDITATIONS 64 Consciously, no one wants to harm themselves or anyone else, no one wants to kill, rule, or fear. Consciously, we all want to live in peace, calm, happy, rich. The following meditations help us to find unconscious moments in our lives, to make our unconscious decisions and thoughts conscious, so that we can transform our fears into loved ones, our desires into goals, our unconscious moments into conscious moments. 64 Listing technique 65 Meditations for being in PRESENT 67 · Simple breathing meditation to unravel the EGO 67 · Contemplation 67 · Constant presence meditation 68 · Mind relaxing meditation 69 · Release meditation 69 · Creation meditation 70 · Love meditations 71 · Love your friends meditation 71 · Love yourself meditation 71 · Love your money meditation 72 · Glossary 73 VIII. It is the third in the trilogy which started with Beyond the Separate Self. Each book deals with Awakening, from the dream of being a separate object on the earth, and each is written so as to stand alone ... not requiring the reader to have read the other works. And you provide lots of supportive text from traditional sources to back-up your teachings.' - Jerry Katz Thanks, Colin for another fine dissertation......you are speaking the unspeakable clearer and clearer.- Paul Bedson. Download or read book Blue written by Rachel Louise Moran and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2024-10-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful look at the changing cultural understanding of postpartum depression in America. New motherhood is often seen as a joyful moment in a woman’s life; for some women, it is also their lowest moment. For much of the twentieth century, popular and medical voices blamed women who had emotional and mental distress after childbirth for their own suffering. By the end of the century, though, women with postpartum mental illnesses sought to take charge of this narrative. In Blue: A History of Postpartum Depression in America, Rachel Louise Moran explores the history of the naming and mainstreaming of postpartum depression. Coalitions of maverick psychiatrists, psychologists, and women who themselves had survived substantial postpartum distress fought to legitimize and normalize women’s experiences. They argued that postpartum depression is an objective and real illness and fought to avoid it being politicized alongside other fraught medical and political battles over women’s health. Based on insightful oral histories and in-depth archival research, Blue reveals a secret history of American motherhood, women’s political activism, and the rise of postpartum depression advocacy amid an often-censorious conservative culture. By breaking new ground with the first book-length history of postpartum mental illness in the twentieth century, Moran brings mothers’ battles with postpartum depression out of the shadows and into the light.
