Book Leading Without Authority

Download or read book Leading Without Authority written by Keith Ferrazzi and published by Currency. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Never Eat Alone redefines collaboration with a radical new workplace operating system in which leadership no longer demands an office, an official title, or even a physical workplace. “An actionable methodology for any team to thrive during the decade of exponential change ahead.”—Peter H. Diamandis, founder of XPRIZE and Singularity University, bestselling co-author of Abundance, Bold, and The Future Is Faster Than You Think In times of stress, we have a choice: we can retreat further into our isolated silos, or we can commit to “going higher together.” When external pressures are mounting, and employees are working from far-flung locations across the globe, says bestselling author Keith Ferrazzi, we can no longer afford to waste time navigating the complex chains of command or bureaucratic bottlenecks present in most companies. But when we choose the bold new methodology of co-elevation as our operating model, we unlock the potential to boost productivity, deepen commitment and engagement, and create a level of trust, mutual accountability, and purpose that exceeds what could have been accomplished under the status quo. And you don’t need any formal authority to do it. You simply have to marshal a commitment to a shared mission and care about the success and development of others as much as you care about your own. Regardless of your title, position, or where or how you work, the ability to lead without authority is an essential workplace competency. Here, Ferrazzi draws on over a decade of research and over thirty years helping CEOs and senior leaders drive innovation and build high-performing teams to show how we can all turn our colleagues and partners into teammates and truly reboot the way we work together.

Book excerpt: Exploring experiences and history from high-altitude to the depths, from many perspectives, the compelling challenge, in clear view, remains ignored: We have a leadership crisis and our beliefs, informing the identification and selection of leaders is based on a flawed myth. In this new, non-industrial era, prescriptive authority, our heritage, is proving harmful. People are, tired, broken, and scared. This pattern of oppression has lowered our human capacity to an alarming level, still declining, in this time of disruption and transformation, when we need to be enthusiastic, resilient, and hopeful. Change is more rapid and more significant than at any time in history, and we are not preparing people for the journey ahead.Companies, industries and economies are being overwhelmed, and many of them are declining and are in crisis. Some are disappearing. Intelligent, market-leading companies recognize these significant shifts and are acting to transform the future of work, shifting the focus back to the most critical component - people. Great leaders are unique individuals with a myriad of personalities, skills and characteristics. So is each employee. Honoring each person's unique talent is the powerful differentiator for future success, looking beyond similarities and exploring what happens when you embrace the unique gifts of each individual, unleashing their superpower. Believership is a higher form of leadership, igniting purpose and the power of many moving in the same direction. While leadership forges a path, Believership becomes a paved road for many to travel together.Believership enables understanding throughout the company or team, and therefore harnesses and magnifies cooperative effort and sense of belonging. It addresses the doubts and challenges, through alignment of vision and mission. Believership brings a good heart, inclusion, diversity and caring to leadership. It lifts others at every level through choice rather than command. Accordingly, Believership is all about bringing the true self to leadership and all employees in order to create value rather than extract value, drawing out the collective effort of the team. It is about authenticity, trust, empowerment and inspiration, about sustainable growth and extraordinary performance, and it has the potential to bring joy to the team. The purpose of this book is to inspire better Leadership and swift Innovation. Meeting the chaotic challenges we face today requires big shifts in the way we organize, operate, structure, lead and manage people and teams. Establishing the experience set forward in this book, the human-based framework, will last beyond the heightened and accelerated attainment of goals and objectives. People will find meaning and happiness. It is not only what we accomplish but who we become along the journey. The only thing that gets in the way of extraordinary transformation is the belief that it can't be done.

Book The Power of Giving Away Power

Download or read book The Power of Giving Away Power written by Matthew Barzun and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This book is a breakthrough. It’s beautifully written, perfectly timed and heralds a new way forward. I’m buying a dozen copies to share with friends and colleagues.” -Seth Godin, Founder of altMBA and author of The Practice If you let go of hierarchy, chaos will reign...or so many leaders believe. But when leaders find the courage to distribute rather than hoard power, creativity multiplies, trust deepens, and inclusivity expands... and a new kind of order emerges. A few rare leaders have learned to embrace a new organizational shape and mindset: Constellations. Organizations designed as constellations are dynamic and flexible networks of distinct yet interwoven individuals. Each member of the team feels like a singular star and is also connected to others to form something greater. That is how Visa reimagined how we pay for things, how Wikipedia beat the richest company in the world and how Barack Obama and his grassroots team revolutionized political campaigning. These leaders did what most leaders dread – they gave away power. Barzun brilliantly layers lessons across history and industries with his own experiences as an internet entrepreneur, political organizer, and US ambassador to the United Kingdom and Sweden. The Power of Giving Away Power shows how the Constellation mindset shines in some of the most impactful organizations and innovations the world has ever known. And it encourages us all to recognize, as Barzun writes, "the power we can create by seeing the power in others" — and making the leap to lead. Together.

Book BE 2 0 Beyond Entrepreneurship 2 0

Download or read book BE 2 0 Beyond Entrepreneurship 2 0 written by Jim Collins and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Jim Collins, the most influential business thinker of our era, comes an ambitious upgrade of his classic, Beyond Entrepreneurship, that includes all-new findings and world-changing insights. What's the roadmap to create a company that not only survives its infancy but thrives, changing the world for decades to come? Nine years before the publication of his epochal bestseller Good to Great, Jim Collins and his mentor, Bill Lazier, answered this question in their bestselling book, Beyond Entrepreneurship. Beyond Entrepreneurship left a definitive mark on the business community, influencing the young pioneers who were, at that time, creating the technology revolution that was birthing in Silicon Valley. Decades later, successive generations of entrepreneurs still turn to the strategies outlined in Beyond Entrepreneurship to answer the most pressing business questions. BE 2.0 is a new and improved version of the book that Jim Collins and Bill Lazier wrote years ago. In BE 2.0, Jim Collins honors his mentor, Bill Lazier, who passed away in 2005, and reexamines the original text of Beyond Entrepreneurship with his 2020 perspective. The book includes the original text of Beyond Entrepreneurship, as well as four new chapters and fifteen new essays. BE 2.0 pulls together the key concepts across Collins' thirty years of research into one integrated framework called The Map. The result is a singular reading experience, which presents a unified vision of company creation that will fascinate not only Jim's millions of dedicated readers worldwide, but also introduce a new generation to his remarkable work.

Book Leadership as Practice

Download or read book Leadership as Practice written by Joseph A. Raelin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-01-29 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops a new paradigm in the field of leadership studies, referred to as the "leadership-as-practice" (L-A-P) movement. Its essence is its conception of leadership as occurring as a practice rather than residing in the traits or behaviours of particular individuals. A practice is a coordinative effort among participants who choose through their own rules to achieve a distinctive outcome. It also tends to encompass routines as well as problem-solving or coping skills, often tacit, that are shared by a community. Accordingly, leadership-as-practice is less about what one person thinks or does and more about what people may accomplish together. It is thus concerned with how leadership emerges and unfolds through day-to-day experience. The social and material contingencies impacting the leadership constellation – the people who are effecting leadership at any given time – do not reside outside of leadership but are very much embedded within it. To find leadership, then, we must look to the practice within which it is occurring. The leadership-as-practice approach resonates with a number of closely related traditions, such as collective, shared, distributed, and relational leadership, that converge on leadership processes. These approaches share a line of inquiry that acknowledges leadership as a social phenomenon. The new focus opens up a plethora of research opportunities encouraging the study of social processes beyond influence, such as intersubjective agency, shared sense-making, dialogue, and co-construction of responsibilities.
