Book Bevel Spiral and Worm Gearing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Bevel Spiral and Worm Gearing Classic Reprint written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bevel, Spiral and Worm Gearing Internal bevel gearing should be avoided except in cases where cast gears will be satisfactory, because it is practically impossible to cut internal bevel gearing. It may be possible on some forms of templet planing ma chines to produce internal bevel gears, if the pitch cone angle is not too great, but it is impossible on any form of generating machine. Internal bevel gearing can usually be avoided, and be replaced by external bevel gearing, by extending one of the shafts between which motion is to be transmitted, and mounting the gears in such a position that the required motion can be trans mitted by a pair of ordinary bevel gears. The following exceptions to, and modifications of, the rules given should be noted. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiral and Worm Gearing: A Treatise on the Principles, Dimensions, Calculation and Design of Spiral and Worm Gearing, Together With Chapters on the Methods of Cutting the Teeth in These Types of Gears The manner in which machinery's book, Spur and Bevel Gearing, has been received by the mechanical world has prompted the compilation and publication of a companion book on Spiral and Worm Gearing. This subject has often been presented in so theoretical a manner that many have assumed it to be very difficult to master. It is possible, however, to present the principles of design and calculation of spiral and worm gearing in such a way that they can be readily under stood without resorting to a highly theoretical treatment; and in preparing this book, the first consideration on the part of the editor has therefore been to treat the subject in such'a way as to meet the practical requirementsof the machine-building trade. As a result, in this book, as well as in the companion book, Spur and Bevel Gearing, mere theory and academic discus sions have been avoided. The rules, formulas and instruc tions given are illustrated with engravings whenever necessary, and numerous examples are given to show their application to problems met with in machine design. Theoretical considera tions, however, have not been neglected in cases where they have been found necessary to fully explain a practical process, and this book is, therefore, a treatise on both the theory and practice of spiral and worm gearing along such lines as will make it especially useful to practical men. Book Worm and Spiral Gearing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Worm and Spiral Gearing Classic Reprint written by Frederick Arthur Halsey and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-26 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Worm and Spiral Gearing The theory of worm gearing is well fortified by the collection of facts from experience given herein, and it points out clearly the procedure to be followed in order to insure durability and cffi ciency. Both analytical and graphical methods of laying out spiral gearing are given, and these, it is believed, will meet the needs and tastes of all. It should be mentioned that with spur gears, when stock cutters are used, the diameters and center distances must be such as go with whole numbers of teeth. The property of spiral gears by which any center distance may be accommo dated is therefore one which is not shared by spur gears. Should those sections of this book which relate to unchanged center distances be omitted, its remain ing solutions would be as complete as is possible with spur gears. Book Spur and Bevel Gearing

Download or read book Spur and Bevel Gearing written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spur and Bevel Gearing: A Treatise on the Principles, Dimensions, Calculation, Design and Strength of Spur and Bevel Gearing, Together With Chapters on Special Tooth Forms and Methods of Cutting Gear Teeth Early in 1908, Machinery began the publication of its well-known 25-cent Reference Books. These include the best of the material that has appeared in Machinery during the past twenty years, adequately revised, amplified and brought up-to-date. Of these books, one hundred and twenty-five different titles have been published in the past six years. Many subjects, however, cannot be covered in all their phases to an adequate extent in books of this size, and in answer to a demand for more comprehensive and detailed treatments on the more important mechanical subjects, it has been deemed advisable to bring out a number of larger volumes, each covering one subject completely. This book is one of these volumes. In bringing out these books, the first consideration on the part of the editors has been to make them meet the practical needs of the machine building trade. Mere theory and academic discussions have been avoided. The rules, formulas and instructions are illustrated with engravings whenever practicable, and examples are given to show their application to every-day problems. Theoretical considerations, however, have not been neglected, when necessary to fully explain a practical process, and the present book on spur and bevel gearing is, therefore, a treatise on both the practice and the theory of gearing, along such lines as will make it especially useful to practical men. The information contained is mainly compiled from articles published in Machinery, and the best on the subject that has appeared in the Reference Books is also included. Amplifications and additions have been made wherever necessary. For the material contained. Machinery is indebted to a large number of men who have furnished practical information to its columns in the past. A definite lay - out for each problem is given, and the conditions for the same are clearly stated. This is accompanied by numerous references to the text, so that a careful study of the subject is necessitated before performing the problems. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Worm Gearing In the following work an attempt has been made, it is believed for the first time, to deal exhaustively with a little understood branch of applied mechanics. A complete analysis Of the principles of the design Of worm gearing has been made, and, primarily, this has been treated in its application to the rear axles of automobiles. For a number Of years this type of gearing has enjoyed considerable popularity in Great Britain, and its wider use is daily becoming more general. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiral Gearing: Calculation and Design, Herring-Bone Gearing, Gear Hobbing The terms spiral gear and helical gear are, in usage, synonymous, the only difference being that the former of these terms is absolutely incorrect. Inasmuch, however, as the word spiral is in such common use among mechanics in this connection, the writer has not had the moral courage to use the more 'proper term throughout this treatise, but it would be a good plan for the readers to become familiar with the term helical as applied to gearing.
