Book EMPOWERMENT OF MARGINALIZED CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

Download or read book EMPOWERMENT OF MARGINALIZED CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS written by S. Gurusamy and published by MJP Publisher. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part I - Dalit Dimension, Part II - Women Dimension, Part III - Old Age Dimension, Part IV - Social Development Dimension, Part V - Peasants and Agricultural Labour. Study of sociology in India invariably relates to the composition of segments, communities, institutions, social organizations, regions, issues, problems faced by these segments, challenges uncounted in the process, social welfare programmes for the people vulnerable to problems, impact of development intervention among these segments, planned directed social change, people’s participation in development transactions, social caste and benefits including social audit, capital formation, induced development, micro level planning, and public private partnership based development initiatives in the direction of social development. However the Indian social structure perpetuating inequality arising out of caste, gender, region, people’s vulnerability to injustices, human rights implications, etc., act as stumbling block in creation of a society. Consequently India is faced with sustained inequality in view of the system of social stratification within the larger framework of the social structure. Social relationships in Indian context is marked by social standing and identification in the system of hierarchy which seem to have perpetuated strongly the phenomenon of caste based inequalities which ultimately resulted in various forms of discriminations and distance between community and determined their social status. As a result, social segment categories were based upon their ascribed status, ownership means of production particularly land and other movable and immovable properties. Consequently this has led to emergence of social evil practices between social segments categorized as upper and lower, gender inequality between male and female, regional imbalance between rural and urban in terms of development intervention and creation of infrastructure.

Good examples from different international contexts, illustrated in relevant case studies, let the reader relate theory to practice and bring the concepts to life. The author takes the central thrust of health promotion for the past few decades and unravels it for the reader in a clear, comprehensive way′ - Health Matters In health promotion, the concept of power can be defined as the ability to create or resist change, and this is an important foundation for individual and community health. By enabling people to empower themselves, health promoters can provide the capacity for the individual or community to change their lives and their living conditions, and therefore their health. Health Promotion Practice explores the issue of how such an approach to health promotion practice can improve a community′s success towards achieving healthier conditions through its own actions. Placing empowerment at the heart of health promotion practice, and offering advice for health promoters who accept the challenge to work in such a way, Health Promotion Practice defines key concepts of health, health promotion and community empowerment. It also: Introduces readers to a ′social′ model of health promotion practice, one that attempts to get at the underlying social determinants of disease; Helps readers understand the importance of power relations and their transformation in this practice; Introduces readers to a new `community capacity-building′ approach to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion programmes. Health Promotion Practice is an invaluable resource to students and practitioners of health promotion who want to help empower the communities that they work with.

Book Women Empowerment Challenges and Strategies

Download or read book Women Empowerment Challenges and Strategies written by and published by Booksclinic Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-30 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The proposed edited book on Women Empowerment: Challenges and Strategies, deals with the problems associated with the women community suffering from marginalization and the ways to address their identity and human rights concerns. The status of women in every nation was deprived and never considered. They were considered as mere machines to fulfill mere different duties. During ancient ages, we can see the evolution of changing and taking new perspectives. The concept of female in Manusmriti and in Puranas of considering them as dependents and deities is contradictory. There are still places where women are still considered as deprived and are still under chains it is the duty of the privileged to empower the underprivileged.Women empowerment programs failed as they overlooked the structural factors that perpetuated oppression and exploitation. The fulfillment of practical needs such as food, health care, and education cannot empower women unless the long-term strategic needs are met. The process of empowerment requires a transformation of structures of sub ordinance, control over material and intellectual resources, gaining decisions, making authority and reduction of gender inequality. The present book is the collection of Twenty-two research papers enlightens and thought-provoking articles contributed by research scholars throwing light on the women empowerment and role of religion and policies, women and nutrition, gender sensitization, role of education, status of working women in unorganized sector, role of media and NGO in promoting women empowerment, empowerment of Indian women –a challenge of 21st century, life skills and older women with reference to old age homes, depiction of women in literature and Marginalization of Women Characters in literature, social organization and woman empowerment and entrepreneurshipThe book will be an important reference source for scholars in the fields of rights of the marginalized sections, rights of the women, the role of education & practice and gender studies. The purpose of this edited book is to provide a common platform for academicians and policymakers for a comprehensive deliberation on issues relating to social sector development in our society. The research papers and various articles covering so many themes of social awareness for education and social sector development are compiled in one place so that anyone can get easy access to their research. This book is edited basically for the students, teachers, researchers, and academics.
