Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The groundbreaking account of life after death that has become a source of comfort, inspiration, and solace to millions “I felt a surge of energy, and my spirit was suddenly drawn through my chest and pulled upward. My first impression is that I was free. . . .” On the night of November 19, 1973, following surgery, thirty-one-year-old wife and mother Betty J. Eadie died. This is her extraordinary story of the events that followed, her astonishing proof of life after physical death. She saw more, perhaps than any other person has seen before and shares her almost photographic recollections of the remarkable details. Compelling, inspiring, and infinitely reassuring, her vivid account gives us a glimpse of the peace and unconditional love that awaits us all. More important, Betty's journey offers a simple message that can transform our lives today, showing us our purpose and guiding us to live the way we were meant to—joyously, abundantly, and with love. Praise for Embraced by the Light “The most detailed and spellbinding near-death experience I have ever heard.”—Kimberly Clark-Sharp, president, Seattle International Association of Near-Death Studies

Book excerpt: The year is 1620. As the Mayflower tacks about to avoid the dangerous shoals of Pollock Rip off the Cape Cod coast, a young girl mysteriously jumps to her death. Almost four centuries later the psychic imprints of that incident-and a string of related incidents-begin to wreak havoc in the lives of two prominent Americans. A corporate executive sailing in Nantucket Sound is unexpectedly barraged by a violent storm at sea-which no other vessel even detects on radar. A highly respected college professor swears he can see the outline of two large figures hovering over the foot of his bed, one brandishing a knife. Both men have two things in common: They are scions of the privileged Pennfield clan-one of America's great families, claiming an unbroken line back to the Mayflower. And, unbeknownst to them, their strange bouts with the paranormal have just begun. The Pennfields soon realize these encounters are not isolated occurrences, but an orchestration of paranormal events haunting the entire family. Concerned, they enlist the aid of retired construction contractor turned ghost hunter, Ed Swann. In his methodical manner, Swann uncovers a mystery that unravels the dark underside of the Pennfields' cherished lineage-leading them all the way back to the incident on the Mayflower. "Fascinating and haunting narrative entertaining and enjoyable story."-Tom Crawford, Ghostsource.com "A tantalizing blend of suspense and the paranormal."-Mary Jane Clark, New York Times Bestselling Author

Book excerpt: A comprehensive biography of the late designer, Karl Lagerfeld, and his infamous rivalry with Yves Saint Laurent. In the 1970s, Paris fashion exploded like a champagne bottle left out in the sun. Amid sequins and longing, celebrities and aspirants flocked to the heart of chic, and Paris became a hothouse of revelry, intrigue, and searing ambition. At the center of it all were fashion's most beloved luminaries - Yves Saint Laurent, the reclusive enfant terrible, and Karl Lagerfeld, the flamboyant freelancer with a talent for reinvention - and they divided Paris into two fabulous halves. Their enduring rivalry is chronicled in this dazzling exposè of an era: of social ambitions, shared obsessions, and the mesmerizing quest for beauty. "Deliciously dramatic... The Beautiful Fall crackles with excitement."-New York Times Book Review "Fascinating." -New York Times "Addictive." -Philadelphia Inquirer "It's like US Weekly, 1970s style." -Gotham "A story constructed as exquisitely as a couture dress. . . . It moves stylishly forward, with frequent over-the-shoulder glances at some very dishy background." -Boston Globe

Book Betty The Dancer

Download or read book Betty The Dancer written by Warwick Collins and published by Vincent Senise. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the touch of emotion, the "Dance with Destiny" becomes one of the greatest timeless biographical novel. Real or not real? Real, this incredible story is true and its dramatic twists and turns go far beyond anything we could imagine. For those who love with soul there is no such thing as separation. The Second World War story of the passionate and tragic affair between Betty Bjurström, the beautiful, famous dancer, and Renato Senise, film producer and Allied intelligence agent, has taken on an almost mythical dimension. Like all myths, it is based on conflicting accounts and anecdotes. Accordingly, it would be almost impossible to untangle the final facts in Renato’s complex life — it is an almost novelistic attempt to portray two remarkable characters whose feelings for one another were perhaps too much to bear. Enjoyable reading as living through the passions and adventures of the leading characters as they are drawn into “A Dance with Destiny”.

Book Cinema and Its Discontents

Download or read book Cinema and Its Discontents written by Zachariah Rush and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-05-12 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ultimate aim of drama is to expose the soul of Character. Dramatists achieve this objective by employing a specific type of conflict known as dialectic, a concept woven throughout Western thinking and--from Homer to 21st century cinema--the basis of all dramatic characters. This study details the history of dialectical thought from Plato to Jung before turning its focus to the development of character in a century of filmmaking. From Chaplin's Tramp to Taxi Driver's Travis Bickle, it examines more than two dozen cinematic characters governed by dialectic--torn between life and death, opposing desires, moralities and wills, their sense of self threatened by others.
