Book The Dynamics of Aggression

Download or read book The Dynamics of Aggression written by Michael Potegal and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aggression usually involves a sequence of behaviors, reflecting escalations and de-escalations in the form or intensity of the actions taken, which play out over time. This book provides a context in which social and biological research on the aggressive behaviors of human and non-human subjects, interacting in dyads or groups, can be compared and integrated. Implicit in this juxtaposition is the major question of whether general principles governing the dynamics of aggression within and between episodes may be discerned. Aggressive behavior is described at different levels of analysis in humans and a number of other animal species. Three basic views of aggression dynamics become apparent: * The economic interpretation: Aggression will be escalated when it pays one of the combatants to do so or, more generally, when the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Decisions to escalate or de-escalate are part of a calculated "strategy", in one or another sense. This interpretation is formalized within game theoretic models as applied to animal conflicts and to international conflicts, within the chapters of this text. * The psychological process interpretation: Emphasis is placed on psychological/physiological processes within the individual. The chapters stress the importance of acute emotional states of anger and aggressive arousal and argue the role of peripheral sympathetic activation, while proposing a central neural mechanism. Children escalating their tantrums, adult humans and animals of other species intensifying their interpersonal conflicts, national leaders going to a war footing all appear to suffer a narrowing of attention and progressive failure of cognitive function under the intensifying stress of conflict. Perhaps these changes in attention, sensory and cognitive functions, and risk taking reflect a "commitment to aggression" which is necessary for organisms to engage in potentially dangerous and painful encounters. * The emergent process interpretation: Escalation emerges in a spontaneous and dynamic way as the actions of one participant elicit reactions from the other(s).

Book BETTA SPLENDENS FOR BEGINNERS

Download or read book BETTA SPLENDENS FOR BEGINNERS written by Jack Nelson and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you ready to buy betta fish? Betta Fish is among the most prominent fish in the aquarium pastime. Regrettably, the pet fish market took advantage of this. Bettas are typically seen as low, no upkeep fish that may be kept in little bowls. This, nevertheless, is deceptive and incorrect. It holds true that bettas are certainly among the simplest fish to keep in the aquarium. Nevertheless, regardless of how "simple" they are to look after, bettas still require the fundamentals, such as equipment for keeping exotic fish: water, heater, care and food. You are going to discover all of these within this book and a lot more. Bettas are truly amazing fish to keep and interact with! Each one has their own personality, with some being passive, and others being very aggressive. Males are usually more aggressive than females, but there is no one true and only rule for how bettas will interact with other tank inhabitants. In general, it is not a great idea to keep males with other males or females, but females may be okay with other females in what is called a betta fraternity if certain conditions are met, such as a large enough aquarium, hiding places, etc. Bettas have been kept as pets for so long, and in so many places, that it is now uncertain where they were originally native to and where they have been introduced, either accidentally or on purpose. The fish are very good at eating mosquito larvae, so they have been introduced in several places around the world for pest control. Betta fish these days come in all sorts of different colors and fin varieties, and it seems like everyday there is a new fin variation! The most common betta variations and the ones you will find in most pet stores are the common or fancy (show) betta, crowntail, half-moon, and spade betta fin varieties. More and more pet stores are getting in fancier fin variation bettas, and these fancy bettas also come with a heavier price tag. Some of the fancier bettas include plakat, mustard, rose tail, etc. Bettas are fascinating fish to keep and are fun to have as companions. Many people have even been able to teach their betta tricks, such as swimming through hoops or chasing after laser pointers! This book covers: - What Are Betta Fish? - Choosing a Betta - Choosing Your Aquarium - Is My Betta Sick? - How to Feed the Betta - Lifestyle & Normal Habits - Betta Breeding - Mistakes in Betta Fish Care BUY IT NOW!
