Abgeleitet von der Frage, was Gesundheitswissenschaftler unter Gesundheitsförderung verstehen, wird sich im Folgenden mit dem Thema „betriebliche Gesundheitsförderung“ (BGF) auseinandergesetzt, da sich die Autorin beruflich mit der Konzeptentwicklung zur Gesundheitsförderung in Unternehmen befasst und deren Umsetzung strategisch und operativ begleitet. Dabei stellt sich die Frage, wie sich Gesundheitsförderung gleichermaßen als Element strategischer Unternehmensführung und als nachhaltiges Sog-Konzept etablieren lässt und die Wirksamkeit der Interventionen in der Praxis messbar überprüft werden können. Die Gesundheit am Arbeitsplatz gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung, denn durch den demographischen Wandel und die Globalisierung müssen die Erwerbstätigen mehr Lebensjahre lang fit bleiben und sind diversen psychischen und körperlichen Belastungen ausgesetzt. Die betriebliche Gesundheitsförderung muss heute nicht nur den sogenannten Berufskrankheiten entgegenwirken sondern in zunehmendem Maße auch den Zivilisationskrankheiten, die durch den persönlichen Lebensstil entstehen, durch zu wenig Bewegung und sitzende Tätigkeiten am Arbeitsplatz. Das Setting der Arbeitswelt eignet sich daher für gesundheitsförderliche Maßnahmen besonders gut, denn aktuell sind fast 44 Millionen der Deutschen erwerbstätig und können somit theoretisch täglich durch gesundheitsförderliche Maßnahmen erreicht werden. Der Trend der Gesundheitsförderung ist auch gesellschaftspolitisch notwendig und unverkennbar, selbst die gesetzlichen Krankenkassen sind jüngst im § 20 SGB V dazu verpflichtet, Gelder für Gesundheitsförderung in die Hand zu nehmen und den salutogenetischen Ansatz ebenso wichtig zu behandeln wie den pathogenetischen, der lange Zeit alleine im Fokus stand.

Insbesondere soll untersucht werden, wie sich die ständige Erreichbarkeit der Mitarbeiter nicht nur auf die individuelle Arbeitsmotivation auswirkt, sondern auch den Krankenstand insgesamt maßgeblich beeinflusst. Die Untersuchung dieser Zusammenhänge wird einen umfassenden Einblick in die potenziell weitreichenden Auswirkungen des neuen Arbeitskonzepts auf die physische und psychische Gesundheit sowie die Leistungsfähigkeit der Beschäftigten geben. Ein weiteres wichtiges Ziel dieser Forschung ist es, die Konzepte der betrieblichen Gesundheitsförderung (BGF) und des betrieblichen Gesundheitsmanagements (BGM) klar abzugrenzen. Die Bemühungen erstrecken sich nicht nur auf die genaue Definition dieser beiden Ansätze, sondern zielen auch auf die nahtlose Integration dieser Ansätze angesichts der aktuellen Herausforderungen. Diese Absicht erfordert eine kritische Reflexion über die spezifischen Merkmale und Ziele von BGF und BGM sowie die Identifizierung von Synergien und möglichen Interferenzen. Außerdem wird aufgezeigt, wie eine solide Grundlage geschaffen werden kann, um aktuelle Probleme wirksam anzugehen, indem geeignete alternative Maßnahmen ermittelt und ein umfassender Aktionsplan entwickelt werden. Mit diesen Maßnahmen sollen nicht nur die ermittelten Herausforderungen angegangen, sondern auch die langfristige Gesundheit, das Engagement und die Leistung der Organisation gefestigt werden. Konkrete Umsetzungsschritte sowie die erforderlichen Ressourcen und Zeitrahmen für die Durchführung der Maßnahmen werden im Detail ausgearbeitet. Zusammenfassend zielt diese wissenschaftliche Arbeit darauf ab, ein umfassendes Verständnis für die vielschichtigen Auswirkungen des neuen Arbeitsmodells zu schaffen und parallel dazu praktische Handlungsempfehlungen zu entwickeln, die den Bedürfnissen der Organisation entsprechen. Dies trägt wesentlich dazu bei, das Management der mit dem neuen Arbeitsparadigma verbundenen Herausforderungen wirksam zu unterstützen.

Work can adversely affect our health, well beyond the usual counts of injuries that we think of as 'occupational health'. The ways in which work is organized - its pace and intensity, degree of control over the work process, sense of justice, and employment security, among other things - can be as toxic to the health of workers as the chemicals in the air. These work characteristics can be detrimental not only to mental well-being but to physical health. Scientists refer to these features of work as 'hazards' of the 'psychosocial' work environment. One key pathway from the work environment to illness is through the mechanism of stress; thus we speak of 'stressors' in the work environment, or 'work stress'. This is in contrast to the popular psychological understandings of 'stress', which locate many of the problems with the individual rather than the environment. In this book we advance a social environmental understanding of the workplace and health. The book addresses this topic in three parts: the important changes taking place in the world of work in the context of the global economy (Part I); scientific findings on the effects of particular forms of work organization and work stressors on employees' health, 'unhealthy work' as a major public health problem, and estimates of costs to employers and society (Part II); and, case studies and various approaches to improve working conditions, prevent disease, and improve health (Part III).
