Book When Saturday Comes

Download or read book When Saturday Comes written by When Saturday Comes and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2006-08-03 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best chants, the funniest nicknames, the greatest headlines and enough little-known facts to keep the average football supporter entertained - and entertaining - for several seasons. This is the story of the greatest game on earth, from 'abandoned matches' to 'Yeovil Town', via celebrity fans, mascots, punditry and superstitions, written from the fan's point of view and with a separate entry for every club in the English and Scottish leagues. Who cares why, if Torquay United's strikers had been more prolific in the 1950s, England may never have won the World Cup; or where football hooliganism actually began; or who the hell Captain Henry Blythe Thornhill Wakelam is? We do. Because as every true student of the game knows: it's important.

Book The God Solution

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ian Stott
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2013-07-23
  • ISBN : 1483640302
  • Pages : 229 pages

Download or read book The God Solution written by Ian Stott and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-23 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ian Stott was born in Moseley, Birmingham, in 1946 and became a travelling evangelist in 1986, with his Gospel band After the Fall, performing in prisons, remand homes, pubs, clubs, church halls, carnivals, fetes, festivals, handicapped homes and colleges all around the United Kingdom. After writing Touching Glory as the title song for the 1994 Cross Rhythms Festival in Devon, Ian and the band received a record distribution deal with Kingsway Music. He wrote the songs for two more albums, and the band continued its evangelistic work for eleven years. Ian has studied Bible Prophecy for thirty years and is now a full-time musician, working as a tribute act in the UK and worldwide. He has had songs and poems published during this period. After the Fall, the band, played their last show in 1997 on stage at Dudley Castle, Birmingham, live on Sky TV. Ian Stott is a layman, representing every man and brings a refreshing perspective to apologetics, with a dash of humour. He has a desire to reach people who know nothing about the Bible or what it contains. This book is a direct reply to militant atheism and The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Atheism is growing and making much noise and needs a Christian answer. The author brings everything together in one place with amazing clarity and startling revelation the evidence for God, the weakness of the argument for atheism and evolution, secret societies, Bible prophecy and the deception, misinformation and corruption of the shadow governments and leading players of this world. The world needs information that is intelligible to the man in the street, who only ever hears one side of the argument. The God Solution contains that information.

Book BBC Sports Report A Celebration of the World s Longest Running Sports Radio Programme

Download or read book BBC Sports Report A Celebration of the World s Longest Running Sports Radio Programme written by Pat Murphy and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-09-29 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SHORTLISTED FOR THE SUNDAY TIMES SPORTS BOOK AWARDS 2023 - SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT BOOK OF THE YEAR THE OFFICIAL DEFINITIVE HISTORY OF BBC SPORTS REPORT 'Opens the doors to one of the great radio institutions.' – Dan Walker 'An absolute joy to read.' – John Inverdale 'That opening tune always quickens the pulse.' – Henry Winter Sports Report is as much a 75-year history of sport as a BBC radio institution and Pat Murphy pays handsome tribute to a programme that is still followed affectionately by millions. For nearly 75 years, one BBC programme has been a constant factor in chronicling the way sport is covered, in all its many facets. It has been a window on the sporting world all over the globe – packed tightly into every Saturday evening for the bulk of the year. First broadcast in 1948, Sports Report is the longest-running radio sporting programme in the world and one of the BBC's hardy perennials. Pat Murphy has been a reporter on the programme since 1981 and here he sifts comprehensively through the experiences of his contemporaries and those who made their mark on Sports Report in earlier decades. He hears from commentators, reporters, producers, presenters and the production teams who regularly achieved the broadcasting miracle of getting a live programme on air, without a script, adapting as the hour of news, reaction and comment unfolded. Drawing on unique access from the BBC Archives Unit, he highlights memorable moments from Sports Report, details the challenges faced in getting live interviews on air from draughty, noisy dressing-room areas and celebrates the feat of just a small production team in the studio who, somehow, get the show up and running every Saturday, with the clock ticking implacably on. --- Waterstones Best Books of 2022 – Sport

  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Blazing Squad written by Carl Moran and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manchester City's 'Blazing Squad' is one of a number of young gangs who prove the truth of that statement. As their infamous appearance on BBC Television proved, the tactics required to organise fights between rival football supporters have changed hugely since the mass of the 1970s and 80s. The advent of high ticket prices and all-seater stadia has forced a whole generation of younger supporters out of football grounds in favour of tourists and corporate fans, as a consequence violence within grounds has all but died out. Modern day policing techniques and the advent of spotters and Tactical Aid Units have forced the modern day hooligan to arrange 'meets' with rival fans, typically in areas well away from grounds and often with supporters whose team are not even in action that day. The Blazing Squad are one of this new breed of football firm -- small in number but ready to travel all over the country to fight their rivals. Carl Moran, star of BBC's 'Football Fight Club' explains how they grew from a few teenagers following their team into one of the most feared hooligan firms of recent times.
