Download or read book Mother Please Let Me Go written by H.D. Graham and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-01-28 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about my exciting and wonderful career in the United States Air Force. I listed my various assignment in the order in which they occurred and outlined the major events in my life while at each base. Every assignment had a lot of good points and some that wasn’t that great but I tried to focus on the exciting things. A large portion of the book deals with my assignments in Vietnam and events that still haunt me today. The events in the book start when I was a senior in high school trying to talk my Mother into giving me permission to enlist just as soon as I turn 17 years old. I also wrote about some of the interesting things while in high school and about my large family. I felt that it might be of interest to the reader to know that between all my brothers and I we accumulated over 170 years of military service to our country. I ended the book with some events that happened while I was teaching and the jetliner that I observed on 10 Sep 01 practicing for the flight across southern Pennsylvania that crashed on 9/11.
Download or read book Doing What s Best For Kids written by John Gilpin and published by Brush Education. This book was released on 2012-10-09 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doing What’s Best for Kids is a centennial history of one of the most important social institutions in the history of Fort McMurray. It explores the Fort McMurray Public School Board’s relationship since 1912 to the development of oil sands, salt mining, fishing, lumbering, steamboat operations, aviation and railway development. The booms and busts of these industries at times threatened the existence of the district and at other times were the basis for growth. The people who have made this history are a feature of this book. This group includes Douglas Craig and Cassia McTavish, who ensured that the fledgling school established in 1912 would survive the economic slump of 1913. The struggles with the department of education in Edmonton over funding and school approvals are another theme. Collectively it is the story of persistence and accomplishment in a location far from Edmonton, but rich in human and natural resources.

Book excerpt: There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who insist that football is just a game, and those who know better. Take the April 1967 clash between England and Scotland. Wounded by their biggest rivals winning the World Cup just nine months earlier, Bobby Brown's Scots travelled to Wembley on the mother of all missions. Win and they would take a huge step towards qualifying for the 1968 European Championship, end England's formidable 19-game unbeaten streak, and, best of all, put Sir Alf Ramsey's men firmly back in their box. Lose? Well, that was just unthinkable. Meanwhile, off the pitch, the winds of change were billowing through Scotland. Nationalism, long confined to the margins of British politics, was starting to penetrate the mainstream, gaining both traction and influence. Was England's World Cup victory a defining moment in the Scottish independence movement? Or did it consign Scotland to successive generations of myopic underachievement? Michael McEwan, author of The Ghosts of Cathkin Park, returns to 1967 to explore a crucial ninety minutes in the rebirth of a nation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Pearson knows more about the Krays than anyone alive. Legend, starring Tom Hardy, was based on his book The Profession of Violence and it was Pearson who exposed the Boothby connection in 1994. In 1967 the twins asked Pearson to write their biography. He remained a confidant of the family and the brothers throughout their trial and prison years. Now Pearson revisits the twins' criminal past and lays bare the truth behind the legend. Drawing upon a mass of first-hand interviews and private information he was unable to use while the Krays were still alive, he finally recounts the chilling untold story of the Kray twins. John Pearson is also the author of All the Money in the World (previously titled Painfully Rich), now a major motion picture directed by Ridley Scott film and starring Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg and Christopher Plumber (nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor).

Download or read book Psychedelia and Other Colours written by Rob Chapman and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Psychedelia and Other Colours, acclaimed author Rob Chapman explores in crystalline detail the history, precedents and cultural impact of LSD, from the earliest experiments in painting with light and immersive environments to the thriving avant-garde scene that existed in San Francisco even before the Grateful Dead and the Fillmore Auditorium. In the UK, he documents an entirely different history, and one that has never been told before. It has its roots in fairy tales and fairgrounds, the music hall and the dead of Flanders fields, in the Festival of Britain and that peculiarly British strand of surrealism that culminated in the Magical Mystery Tour. Sitars and Sergeant Pepper, surfadelica and the Soft Machine, light shows and love-ins - the mind-expanding effects of acid were to redefine popular culture as we know it. Psychedelia and Other Colours documents these utopian reverberations - and the dark side of their moon - in a perfect portrait.

Download or read book Women s Voices in Ireland written by Caitriona Clear and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women's Voices in Ireland examines the letters and problems sent in by women to two Irish women's magazines in the 1950s and 60s, discussing them within their wider social and historical context. In doing so, it provides a unique insight into one of the few forums for female expression in Ireland during this period. Although in these decades more Irish women than ever before participated in paid work, trade unions and voluntary organizations, their representation in politics and public and their workforce participation remained low. Meanwhile, women who came of age from the late 1950s experienced a freedom which their mothers and aunts - married or single, in the workplace or the home - had never known. Diary and letters pages and problem pages in Irish-produced magazines in the 1950s and 60s enabled women from all walks of life to express their opinions and to seek guidance on the social changes they saw happening around them. This book, by examining these communications, gives a new insight into the history of Irish women, and also contributes to the ongoing debate about what women's magazines mean for women's history.
