Book Music of Existence

Download or read book Music of Existence written by Mohan Kambampati and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir unfolds human drama. It is a powerful and emotional story of one family's emigration from India to the United States. It depicts the cultural differences, lessons learned and current learnings, struggles and rewards and pleasures and pains, punctuated with some fascinating and amusing lifestyles in India. A reader will get a glimpse of Indian festivals, it's philosophy, it's traditions, and its ideals. This is also a story of human emotions, psyche, character, and integrity. This book reveals a husband's/father's struggles and successes, his copious optimism, his emotions and predicaments and him steering his life and the life of his wife and sons through many obstacles. Just as music conveys emotions like sadness, happiness, anger, tension and release of it, this memoir conveys the same emotion. Hence Music of Existence. ************************************** "I liked that the author writes in straightforward manner. He includes his flaws and regrets along the way. The author opens up about many mistakes he made along the way in many areas of his life. His achievements shine though, yet it is through the revelation of his oversights that the work becomes realistic as his life experiences offer incredible learning points. I also appreciated the many instances in the memoir where the author includes information about the history and culture of the Indian people. The writer acknowledges the strengths of each culture and time period aspects. Music of Existence by Mohan Kambampati is an inspiring read that reveals the imperfection of its characters and also their fortitude as they face life's hurdles." --EmunahAn, On Line Bookclub "Readers interested in memoirs that document life-affirming revelations and interactions will relish the broader scope and perspective of Music of Existence." --Diane Donovan, Midwest Book Review "What is so special and unique of this memoir is unlike most of the other autobiographies this is not all about the author himself. He talks about his home country, India. Their travels in part of rural India and their disappointment at seeing the village life getting changed so much and the loss of old places." --Arpan Ghosh (Book Blogger)

Book Czechmate

Download or read book Czechmate written by Miloslav Rechcígl and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-03-15 with total page 793 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These reminiscences are an intimate account of Mila Rechcgls saga, his fascinating life, his varied and successful professional career, and his highly visible public life, encompassing some fifty years, since the earliest childhood in a small hamlet in northeastern rural Bohemia to his government career in the Worlds Capital, Washington, DC and spending his retirement years in active scholarship and voluntary work for non-profit organizations. He views his life as a chess game, in which he confronts various challenges head-on, usually ending with a checkmate in his favor. He describes his idyllic youth at family mill, in an area known as Bohemian paradise, talks fondly of his parents and grandparents, the time he spent in a one-class rural school, followed by eight years in gymnasium in Mlada Boleslav, four during the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia and four in the post-War era under the communist threat. After successful escape from communist Czechoslovakia, he immigrates to America, spending his greenhorn years in New York City, working in a glass jewelry factory. He gets a scholarship, is accepted by a prestigious Ivy League school (Cornell) and with skimpy English manages getting his bachelors degree in biochemistry in two and half years, followed by Masters and Ph.D. Gets hired by the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda where he conducts some pioneering research on enzyme turnover and later is offered training in science policy and administration, leading to his appointment as Special Assistant for Nutrition and Health, and later is put in charge of research at the US State Departments Agency for International Development. Beyond the call of duty, he publishes numerous books and in his spare time, devotes energies to organizing an international Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences into a first-class institution and does premier research on immigration history.

This book was released on 2015-09-03 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combat engineers of the First Marine Division, 9th Engineer Battalion, risked their lives daily in Vietnam as they cleared the roads of mines, repaired and paved the famous "Highway 1," disarmed booby traps, built bridges and culverts, and destroyed enemy bunkers and tunnels. Despite their sacrifices and pain, the combat engineers in Vietnam have heretofore largely been ignored. This is the first oral (or other) history of the 9th Engineers, the only Marine battalion formed specifically to go to Vietnam. More than 35 men of the 9th talk about why they joined the Marines and their experiences in basic training. They speak candidly and compellingly about their five years (1966 to 1970) in country. The soldiers also discuss what it was like to come home and get on with their lives.

Book Handbook of Polish Czech and Slovak Holocaust Fiction

Download or read book Handbook of Polish Czech and Slovak Holocaust Fiction written by Elisa-Maria Hiemer and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-06-21 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Polish, Czech, and Slovak Holocaust Fiction aims to increase the visibility and show the versatility of works from East-Central European countries. It is the first encyclopedic work to bridge the gap between the literary production of countries that are considered to be main sites of the Holocaust and their recognition in international academic and public discourse. It contains over 100 entries offering not only facts about the content and motifs but also pointing out the characteristic fictional features of each work and its meaning for academic discourse and wider reception in the country of origin and abroad. The publication will appeal to the academic and broader public interested in the representation of the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, and World War II in literature and the arts. Besides prose, it also considers poetry and theatrical plays from 1943 through 2018. An introduction to the historical events and cultural developments in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Czech, and Slovak Republic, and their impact on the artistic output helps to contextualise the motif changes and fictional strategies that authors have been applying for decades. The publication is the result of long-term scholarly cooperation of specialists from four countries and several dozen academic centres.

Book The Music and Mythocracy of Col Bruce Hampton

Download or read book The Music and Mythocracy of Col Bruce Hampton written by Jerry Grillo and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Col. Bruce Hampton was a charismatic musical figure who launched and continued to influence the jam band genre over his fifty-plus years performing. Part bandleader, soul singer, storyteller, conjuror, poet, preacher, comedian, philosopher, and trickster, Col. Bruce actively sought out and dealt in the weird, wild underbelly of the American South. The Music and Mythocracy of Col. Bruce Hampton is neither a true biography in the Boswellian sense nor a work of cultural studies, although it combines elements of both. Even as biographer Jerry Grillo has investigated and pursued the facts, this life history of Col. Bruce reads like a novel—one full of amazing tales of a musical life lived on and off the road. Grillo’s interviews with Hampton and his bandmates, family, friends, and fans paint a fascinating portrait of an artist who fostered some of the best music ever played in America. Grillo aims not so much to document and demystify the self-mythologizing performer as to explain why his fans and friends loved him so dearly. Hampton’s family history, his place in Atlanta and southeastern musical history, his significant friendships and musical relationships, and the controversies over personnel in his Hampton Grease Band over the years are all discussed. What emerges is a portrait of a P. T. Barnum of the musical world, but one who included his audience and invited them through the tent door to share his inside joke, with plenty of joy to go around.

Book excerpt: The Italian violinist and composer Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755-1824) is considered today to have been one of the most significant forces in the history of violin playing. In 1792 he met Margaret and William Chinnery, a wealthy English couple with strong connections in the world of arts and letters. From that point onwards Viotti's life became inextricably bound up with theirs; he moved into their home and became a second father to their children, forming a remarkably successful m?ge ?rois. Henceforth, all Viotti's career decisions were taken with this family's welfare in mind. The Chinnery Family Papers feature over 100 Viotti letters and other documents. Drawing extensively on these papers, this book investigates the new light that they cast on Viotti's life and career, as well as the context in which he lived and worked. Fresh insights are given into the reception of Viotti's concertos in London and the solo performances he gave while in England, together with new information on his role as a music teacher in the Chinnery household, and his relationship with Mme de Sta?and the Philharmonic Society.
