This book was released on 2009 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The outstanding literary significance of Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival is due in no small part to the fact that this romance from the courtly golden age was still being repeatedly copied at the close of the Middle Ages and was even printed. The monograph examines four manuscripts and early prints from this time of transition in written media in the 15th century; on the one hand, the texts prove significant for textual history through their dependence on the early version *m, largely neglected now, and on the other, the novel layouts used are expressive of their epoch."--Publisher's website.

Download or read book Prophet und K nig im Nordreich Israel written by Bernhard Lehnart and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-10-22 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book deals with the so-called “pre-classical” prophecy in the Northern Kingdom of Israel. It becomes evident that the introduction of kingship in the early period of prophecy marks the beginning of a consideration of social situations. The prophet is placed over the king and stylized as the actual saviour figure. This development is examined along with the extensive prophetic traditions of Samuel, Elijah and Elisha. The texts are first analyzed from a diachronic standpoint to determine pre-deuteronomistic text components. These texts are then linked to their historical context and examined with respect to their medium and historicity. This book throws new light on the social and socio-structural importance of prophecy in this early period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The christianization of Central and Northern Europe, fundamental for the formation of the unity of our civilization was considered by earlier scholarship only in terms of what took place but not in terms of the official norms of the medieval church. On the other hand, the spiritual starting point of so-called “missionary objects” was left largely out of view. Consequently, anachronistic terms came in to use and actual facts became distorted. 26 Studies, published over more than 50 years in four different countries, discuss these problems especially against the background of Carolingian Saxony, and the Slavonic tribes between Germany and Poland, -most of whom may also be seen as the ancestors of modern-day Germans-, with special reference to the strange “Wendenkreuzzug” (Wendish crusade) of 1147.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: This volume contains sixteen articles, written by German scholars and scholars from other countries, who took part in an international research symposium at the University of Osnabruck in 2003. The individual studies of Old and New Testament traditions and of ancient Jewish and early Christian literature focus on completely different aspects of learning. In addition to explanations concerning the practical experience of learning, for which learning something off by heart was of considerable significance, the personal and social aspects of learning processes were also of great importance. One learns from a teacher, and learning together in turn integrates the individual into the traditional community. Reference is also made to the theological-ritual dimension of learning, since learning is described as a way of encountering God, and teaching can be seen as an act of divine proof of grace. The order of the individual essays results in interesting perspectives for the history of the tradition of Jewish and Christian concepts of learning.

Download or read book Constructing Tradition written by Andreas Kilcher and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-10-30 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of constructing tradition, concepts of origin, and memory as well as techniques and practices of knowledge transmission, are central for cultures in general. In esotericism, however, such questions and techniques play an outstanding role and are widely reflected upon, in its literature. Esoteric paradigms not only understand themselves in elaborated mytho-poetical narratives as bearers of “older”, “hidden”, “higher” knowledge. They also claim their knowledge to be of a particular origin. And they claim this knowledge has been transmitted by particular (esoteric) means, media and groups. Consequently, esotericism not only involves the construction of its own tradition; it can even be understood as a specific form of tradition and transmission. The various studies of the present voume, which contains the papers of a conference held in Tübingen in July 2007, provide an overview of the most important concepts and ways of constructing tradition in esotericism.
