Book Development of an Instream Bioassessment Methodology for the Surface Disposal of Coalbed Methane Produced Waters

Download or read book Development of an Instream Bioassessment Methodology for the Surface Disposal of Coalbed Methane Produced Waters written by Patrick E. O'Neil and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this study was to develop and evaluate an instream monitoring methodology for the disposal of produced waters within guidelines of the water quality-based approach for the discharge of effluents. The methodology was developed using produced waters derived from the production of methane from coal seams in Alabama. Research efforts during 1991 focused on development and testing of an instream bioassessment procedure to be used for determining if discharged produced water effluents cause biological impairment within the receiving stream. Development of this particular procedure is important because regulations governing effluents are becoming more protective of the total instream environment, as opposed to strictly water quality, and methods are being proposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) for use by industry and the states to this end. The bioassessment procedure outlined in this paper documents a sampling methodology that can be followed to determine if a discharged effluent is having a statistically significant effect on the structure of benthic macroinvertebrate communities downstream of a permitted discharge point. Data are presented developing the theoretical basis of the sampling procedure along with the results of two field investigations which applied the bioassessment methodology to permitted water discharges.

Book A Review of Water quality Biological Risk and Discharge Monitoring Studies Relative to the Surface Disposal of Produced Waters from the Development of Coal seam Methane in Alabama

Download or read book A Review of Water quality Biological Risk and Discharge Monitoring Studies Relative to the Surface Disposal of Produced Waters from the Development of Coal seam Methane in Alabama written by Patrick E. O'Neil and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to (1) summarize water quality and biomonitoring studies of coal-seam produced waters in Alabama; and (2) to present a monitoring approach for evaluating the risk, and acceptability of surface discharge for certain produced waters. The integrated monitoring approach, termed the Cedar Cove model, was developed for produced waters derived from the development of methane from coal seams in Alabama. The integrated monitoring approach consists of chemical-specific effluent monitoring, toxicological evaluation of the produced water, instream bioassessment, and continual water-quality monitoring of the receiving stream.

Book Management of Water Treatment Plant Residuals

Download or read book Management of Water Treatment Plant Residuals written by American Society of Civil Engineers and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Potable water treatment processes produce safe drinking water and generate a wide variety of waste products known as residuals, including organic and inorganic compounds in liquid, solid, and gaseous forms. In the current regulatory climate, a complete management program for a water treatment facility should include the development of a plan to remove and dispose of these residuals in a manner that meets the crucial goals of cost effectiveness and regulatory compliance. This comprehensive water treatment residuals management plan should involve the: 1) Characterization of the form, quantity, and quality of the residuals; 2) determination of the appropriate regulatory requirements; 3) identification of feasible disposal options; 4) selection of appropriate residuals processing/treatment technologies; and development of a residuals management strategy that meets both the economic and noneconomic goals established for a water treatment facility. This manual provides general information and insight into each of these activities that a potable water treatment facility should perform in developing a residuals management plan.

Book Human and Ecological Risk Assessment

Download or read book Human and Ecological Risk Assessment written by Dennis J. Paustenbach and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-05-22 with total page 1476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human and Ecological Risk Assessment: Theory and Practice assembles the expertise of more than fifty authorities from fifteen different fields, forming a comprehensive reference and textbook on risk assessment. Containing two dozen case studies of environmental or human health risk assessments, the text not only presents the theoretical underpinnings of the discipline, but also serves as a complete handbook and "how-to" guide for individuals conducting or interpreting risk assessments. In addition, more than 4,000 published papers and books in the field are cited. Editor Dennis Paustenbach has assembled chapters that present the most current methods for conducting hazard identification, dose-response and exposure assessment, and risk characterization components for risk assessments of any chemical hazard to humans or wildlife (fish, birds, and terrestrials). Topics addressed include hazards posed by: Air emissions Radiological hazards Contaminated soil and foods Agricultural hazards Occupational hazards Consumer products and water Hazardous waste sites Contaminated air and water The bringing together of so many of the world's authorities on these topics, plus the comprehensive nature of the text, promises to make Human and Ecological Risk Assessment the text against which others will be measured in the coming years.
