Book Landscapes and Landforms of Turkey

Download or read book Landscapes and Landforms of Turkey written by Catherine Kuzucuoğlu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on Turkish geomorphology offers location descriptions, based on their dynamics and evolution processes, including hydrology, tectonics, volcanism, slopes, coasts, ice/snow, and wind. It presents landforms as a result of evolution (Quaternary, Holocene, historic) and in relation to the elements determining and/or impacting this evolution (vegetation, soil, hydrology, geology, climate, sea level and human action) as well as the resulting landscapes. Richly illustrated with pictures from each site, including geomorphological maps and sections, it explains the risks associated with the geomorphological dynamics (on local and global scales), natural and/or cultural heritage (archaeology, prehistory, history, architectural specifications adapted to the landscape), as well as challenges for human society (endangered landscape, protection/conservation rules/statutes, posters/paintings.).

Book Postcollisional Tectonics and Magmatism in the Mediterranean Region and Asia

Download or read book Postcollisional Tectonics and Magmatism in the Mediterranean Region and Asia written by Yildirim Dilek and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Mediterranean region and Asia provide a natural laboratory to investigate the driving forces of continental tectonics in an ongoing collisional orogen and the crustal and mantle response to various modes of deformation associated with plate boundary processes. The multidisciplinary research efforts in this region over the last fifteen years have produced a wealth of new data to better understand the interplay and feedback mechanisms between crustal and mantle processes and the dynamic landscape evolution in a complexly deforming area. A number of discrete collisional events between the Gondwana-derived continental fragments (i.e., Adria, Pelagonia, Arabia, India) and Eurasia controlled the geodynamics of the Mediterranean region and Asia during the late Mesozoic and Cenozoic. This book is a collection of research papers, presenting new data, interpretations, and syntheses on various aspects of the collision-induced tectonic, magmatic, metamorphic, and geomorphic processes that have affected the evolution of this orogenic belt. It should help us better understand the mode and nature of tectonic and magmatic processes and crustal evolution in active collision zones, and the distribution and causes of seismic and volcanic events and their impact on landscape evolution."--Publisher's website.

Book Isotopes in Environmental Studies

This book was released on 2006 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents the proceedings of the IAEA's International conference on isotopes in environmental studies - Aquatic Forum 2004 at which present state of the art isotopic methods for investigation of the aquatic environment were reviewed. The main subjects being considered were: i) behaviour, transport and distribution of isotopes in the aquatic environment; ii) climate change studies using isotopic records in the marine environment; iii) groundwater dynamics, modelling and management of freshwater sources; iv) important global projects; v) joint IAEA-UNESCO submarine groundwater investigations in the Mediterranean, the Southwest Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans; vi) new trends in radioecological investigations; vii) transfers in analytical technologies from bulk analyses to particle and compound specific analyses; viii) development of new isotopic techniques

Book Quaternary Foraminifera of the Caspian Black Sea Mediterranean Corridors Volume 1

Download or read book Quaternary Foraminifera of the Caspian Black Sea Mediterranean Corridors Volume 1 written by Valentina Yanko and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-29 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook in two volumes offers a heretofore unavailable compilation of detailed information on foraminifera of the Caspian-Black Sea-Mediterranean Corridors (“CORRIDORS”), including their taxonomy, ecology, and applications in the study of Quaternary stratigraphy, paleogeographic reconstruction, and environmental stress. This subject is significant in light of the ongoing debates regarding the Flood Hypotheses because foraminifera can provide more information about many of the disputed questions. Foraminifera are highly reliable paleoenvironmental indicators, ubiquitous in marine environments, and taxonomically diverse, which gives them the potential for a wide range of biological responses to varied environmental factors. Their tests are readily preserved and can record evidence of environmental change through time, thus providing historical baseline data even in the absence of background studies. This book presents taxonomic descriptions for about 500 species and subspecies from the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, Caspian Sea, Aral Sea, Sea of Marmara, and the Eastern Mediterranean. This catalogue is supplemented by ecological remarks, stratigraphic distributions, paleogeography, and environmental/paleoenvironmental applications, including responses to environmental stress, e.g., river discharge, pollution by different contaminants, etc. The book will be useful to specialists in Quaternary history of the “CORRIDORS” as well as those in environmental monitoring and risk assessment. This handbook offers detailed taxonomic descriptions of foraminifera from the Black Sea, Caspian Sea, Sea of Azov, Aral Sea (in Volume 1) and Eastern Mediterranean and Sea of Marmara (in Volume 2).

Book TAXONOMY DISTRIBUTION OF EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN BENTHIC FORAMINIFERA

Download or read book TAXONOMY DISTRIBUTION OF EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN BENTHIC FORAMINIFERA written by Asli Oflaz and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study aims to investigate the foraminiferal assemblages of the recent samples of the Gulf of skenderun in terms of abundance and diversity, to determine their bathymetrical and the geographical distributions. In this manner, foraminiferal fauna of the 34 grab samples collected from the infralittoral to lower circalittoral zone of the Gulf of skenderun has been taxonomically identified and quantitatively analyzed. Based on the quantitative data, the benthic foraminiferal diversity and the abundance of species have been determined for each sample. The geographical and bathymetrical distributions of the relative abundances of the dominant species have been mapped. These distribution patterns of benthic foraminifers have been compared with the distribution patterns from the Aegean Sea, Marmara Sea, western Mediterranean, other parts of the eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea. In this study, the applied statistical analyses reveal that depth is not one of the main controlling factors of the distribution of the assemblages. Indeed, no correlation was recognized between the diversity of the species and the corresponding depth of the samples.

Book The Black Sea Flood Question Changes in Coastline Climate and Human Settlement

Download or read book The Black Sea Flood Question Changes in Coastline Climate and Human Settlement written by Valentina Yanko-Hombach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 981 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together eastern and western scholarship on a controversial subject: a catastrophic inundation of the Pontic basin which might have inspired the biblical story of Noah’s flood. In 35 papers, many previously unavailable in English, experts in oceanography, marine geology, paleoclimate, paleoenvironment, archaeology, and linguistic spread offer data and arguments for or against the flood hypothesis. Appendices include 600 radiocarbon dates from the region, obtained by USSR and western labs.
