Book Sustainability in the Gulf

Download or read book Sustainability in the Gulf written by Elie Azar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainability is a topic of great interest today, particularly for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which have witnessed very rapid economic and demographic growth over the past decade. The observed growth has led to unsustainable consumption patterns of vital resources such as water, energy, and food, highlighting the need for an urgent shift towards green growth and sustainable development strategies. The book presents multiple analyses of Gulf-specific sustainability topics, examining the current status, challenges, and opportunities, as well as identifying key lessons learned. Innovative and practical policy recommendations are provided, as well as new conceptual angles to the evolving academic debates on the post-oil era in the Gulf. Through chapters covering sector-related studies, as well as the socio-economic dimensions of the sustainability paradigm, this volume offers valuable insights into current research efforts made by the GCC states, proposing a way forward based on lessons learned. Book Governance Accountability and Sustainable Development

Download or read book Governance Accountability and Sustainable Development written by Redouane Barzi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-06-18 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many events that have marked the last few years – from the Arab Spring revolutions to the different collapses in the financial markets in the western world and the Euro Debt Crisis in Europe – all share the common issue of “Governance”. The various different types of media, especially social media, have contributed to the rapid spread of awareness of governance issues, and have enabled unprecedented numbers of people to manifest their fury about the lack of governance in the management of not only firm and markets, but also whole countries and regions. Governance crises were previously known mainly in the corporate world, where scandals such as Enron and News International have captured the attention of the media and have been a major subject of discussion. Such crises have recently been transferred to entire nations, where citizens have the right to make things change for the best and have the last say. People are currently concerned with the establishment of accountability mechanisms that were previously absent, as well as with real governance reforms that will lead to democracy. This book focuses upon governance and on the importance of accountability, and how it varies from one environment to another. Also of concern here is the effective practice of governance in the shadow of the turmoil and unrest, taking into consideration the specificities of each and every culture. In adopting such a focus, a number of theoretical perspectives are explored, along with issues associated with various environments in order to develop an understanding of the relationship between governance and sustainable development. The book will appeal to academic researchers in the areas of governance, sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, as well as those interested in strategic management more generally. It will be of interest to research students, as well as more experienced academics, worldwide, and may also serve as a secondary text for courses in these areas.

Book Evaluating Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects

Download or read book Evaluating Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects written by Tony Kealy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses sustainable development decision-making. Focusing on decisions to invest in wind turbine technology as part of a corporation’s CO2 emission reduction strategy, it presents a new evaluation framework, based on the triple bottom line framework widely used by businesses to communicate their adherence to corporate social responsibility. This new framework allows the evaluation of strategic corporate decisions to invest in wind turbines to mitigate global warming in the context of a corporation’s social responsibility, and includes an objective measurement stage to add rigor to the evaluation process. The book describes the use of measured data from wind turbine projects to both develop and validate the methodology, and also identifies key enablers and barriers as businesses attempt to successfully integrate corporate social responsibility into their overall business strategy. Given its scope, the book appeals to postgraduate students, researchers, and business professionals interested in the environmental impact of corporations. Featuring case studies from Ireland, it is particularly relevant to audiences within Europe.
