Book The Amalgamation of Colleges of Advanced Education at Ballarat and Bendigo

Download or read book The Amalgamation of Colleges of Advanced Education at Ballarat and Bendigo written by Grant Stewart Harman and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The amalgamation of higher educational institutions has been a feature of government policy and of institutional initiative on the part of some universities and colleges in Australia in recent years. Many forced mergers occurred as a result of the 'razor gang' (Review of Commonwealth Functions) in 1981. Some had been achieved several years earlier in the mid nineteen seventies. It was thus possible, at least in some respects, to compare the amalgamated colleges several years after amalgamation with those existing in the same two provincial cities before the mergers. The report includes: a review of relevant literature and previous research; the history of the amalgamations; a description of external and internal political and administrative processes; an analysis of staffing changes and costs; a review of student backgrounds, opinions and performance; and comment on the adjustment of academic staff. The findings in general support the view that although recurrent costs remained similar to those in the separate institutions there were some savings. There was a significant improvement in the quality of the two institutions. Conclusions are also drawn about conditions which facilitate and hinder effective amalgamation.

Book Intellectual Dynamo Five Decades as an Educational and Training Consultant

Download or read book Intellectual Dynamo Five Decades as an Educational and Training Consultant written by Henry Ellington and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes my lengthy- and highly successful- career as an educational and training consultant. It is the companion volume to Vic Baxter's book on 'Innovative "High Kai" Consulting', the first two elements of the 'Baxter/Ellington quartet' of books on 'effective consultancy'. These are accompanied by two much-longer volumes, each providing 25 detailed case studies on major consultancy projects that we have carried out over the years. We could have written many more! It begins by outlining my general approach to consultancy, and then looks at the main areas of which I have worked as a consultant for the last five decades. The book ends by identifying the four main reasons why I was able to do so well as a consultant. I hope that it will encourage other academics to try to do the same, and will also provide a few useful guidelines for consultants of all types. I hope you enjoy reading it; I certainly enjoyed writing it!

Book Qualitative Educational Research in Action

Download or read book Qualitative Educational Research in Action written by Tom O'Donoghue and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-08-29 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Qualitative research is a key form of research in education; the findings of such projects frequently play a central role in shaping policy and practice. First time qualitative researchers require clear and practical guidance from the outset. However, given the diversity of both subject matter and methodological approaches encompassed by qualitative research, such guidance is not always easily come by. Qualitative Educational Research in Action: Doing and Reflecting is a collection of ten first-hand accounts by educational researchers of qualitative inquiries they carried out. The subjects are diverse, taking in school restructuring, policy analysis, critical literacy, phenomenology and the student teacher relationship. Each chapter outlines the research question investigated and provides an overview of the project's findings, before going on to describe how each researcher approached the challenges of their particular inquiry. The researchers reflect upon the unexpected turns qualitative research can take and the way such projects can move through different theoretical and methodological positions, often ending up significantly removed from the original premise, but all the more valuable for that. Anyone conducting qualitative research in education will be heartened and inspired by this collection, and will also find in it invaluable guidance on dealing effectively with the idiosyncrasies and pitfalls of qualitative research - guidance that is all the more valuable for coming from those who have themselves navigated similar difficulties.
