Download or read book Benchmarking in Construction written by Steven McCabe and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first post-Egan book to look at benchmarking and KPIs (key performance indicators) in the construction industry. Benchmarking is one of the key management techniques the construction industry now needs to adopt if it is to meet challenging new efficiency and productivity targets as well as clients' demands for best value. Contracts are increasingly being awarded only to contractors who can demonstrate the lean construction practices that come with benchmarking. This authoritative and accessible book: * clarifies the thinking behind benchmarking and why firms must now adopt it *shows how to set up effective benchmarking *explains the theoretical background and offers clear, practical guidance *demonstrates best practice though reference to case studies. There are nine case studies describing the use of KPIs and the application of the EFQM excellence model - including contributions from Morrison and John Mowlem The author Steve McCabe is senior lecturer in the School of Property and Construction at the University of Central England in Birmingham. He has conducted extensive research in quality improvement techniques and benchmarking and has wide experience in industry with a number of contractors and within the local authority sector.

Book Measuring Performance and Benchmarking Project Management at the Department of Energy

Download or read book Measuring Performance and Benchmarking Project Management at the Department of Energy written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-08-01 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1997, Congress, in the conference report, H.R. 105-271, to the FY1998 Energy and Water Development Appropriation Bill, directed the National Research Council (NRC) to carry out a series of assessments of project management at the Department of Energy (DOE). The final report in that series noted that DOE lacked an objective set of measures for assessing project management quality. The department set up a committee to develop performance measures and benchmarking procedures and asked the NRC for assistance in this effort. This report presents information and guidance for use as a first step toward development of a viable methodology to suit DOE's needs. It provides a number of possible performance measures, an analysis of the benchmarking process, and a description ways to implement the measures and benchmarking process.

Book Construction Project Benchmarking in the U S Army Corps of Engineers

Download or read book Construction Project Benchmarking in the U S Army Corps of Engineers written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction industry is unique with many challenges. Managing claims can be one of the greatest challenges. Construction projects are becoming more influenced by factors that lead to claims. The literature review highlighted a few of these factors which include: safety issues, design errors, delay, and changes. Moreover, the literature review presented studies in performance measurement and benchmarking as a way to mitigate these factors. The research presented the results from a benchmarking study used to improve contractors that performed work for the Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District. The study selected and analyzed 40 random construction contractors. Five performance elements were identified to measure each contractor. A five-point scale evaluated each contractor based on these elements. The results of this research indicated that benchmarking is an effective tool for improving performance and mitigating the cause of claims.
