Book Bellevue and Historic Lyme Village

Download or read book Bellevue and Historic Lyme Village written by Bill Drown and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bellevue, Ohio, is situated on the corner of four counties-Erie, Huron, Seneca, and Sandusky-which were all part of the Firelands of the Connecticut Western Reserve. Historic Lyme Village was founded in 1977 as a place to preserve the history and heritage of this whole area. Now, 25 years later, the site is home to a collection of buildings that were moved here for historical preservation, providing housing to the many artifacts that have been donated to the Historical Society over the years. Bellevue and Historic Lyme Village records the photo history of these buildings and represents, as well, the history of Bellevue and the surrounding small towns that have shrunken in size as progress continues. This collection of vintage photographs also covers the Railroad, which was important to the development of the area, and the Interurban, which made travel much easier to Cleveland, Toledo, Detroit and Sandusky.

Book Oddball Ohio

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jerome Pohlen
  • Publisher : Chicago Review Press
  • Release : 2004-05-01
  • ISBN : 1569762341

Download or read book Oddball Ohio written by Jerome Pohlen and published by Chicago Review Press. This book was released on 2004-05-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This off-the-wall travel guide presents an Ohio odder than imagined. It wastes no time describing Cedar Point or suggesting scenic bike rides through the Hocking Hills; instead, this entertaining travel companion directs out-of-state adventurers and Buckeye state residents to the home of the world's largest cockroach, an Amish SUV, Egg Shell Land, a two-headed calf, and the Accounting Hall of Fame. Ohio is depicted as the birthplace of bar codes, Airstream trailers, televangelism, Paul Lynde, Alcoholics Anonymous, and the banana split. Odd stories abound, and tales of Ohio as the only state where Jerry Springer has been elected the mayor of a major city, where a brick outhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places, and where Buster the Dog voted for president accompany the site-seeing suggestions. Plenty of photos and maps ensure that this guide is as practical as it is wacky when seeking out wonders such as the Great Pumpkin Watertower, Goodyear's World of Rubber, and Bogart and Bacall's wedding site, then relaxing with a brew at the World's Longest Bar.
