Bella, a Jack Russell terrier is awakened by beautiful singing, which she follows to the beach where she lives. Bella and her doggy friends, Razz and Misty, meet some mermaids, who ask them to help rescue their mermaid children caught by fishermen. The dogs take their four human children masters to meet the mermaids, but before they can perform the rescue, the dogs are naughty and end up in "doggy jail." In their wanderings, they come across a new complex being built that is being overseen by a sinister man in a black car. The dogs take the children there to investigate. They discover that the new aquarium opens in less than a week, so the kids offer to help to find where the mermaid children are being held. Their first rescue attempt is foiled by the man in the black car. It's up to Bella to rescue the rescuers! They try again with the help of the mermaids' song, which puts humans to sleep. The dogs rouse the children and they save the young mermaids. But when the music stops, the security guards and the man in the black car are chasing them! Can Bella and her friends get the mermaids back to the beach in time? About the Author: Sherree Broadhurst has been writing her Bella series since 2007 for her grandchildren. Book excerpt: Following the intense, toxic friendship of two kindred spirits across their lifetimes, The Best Friend is a dark, suspenseful novel and first standalone from Jessica Fellowes, New York Times bestselling author of the Mitford Murders series and the companion Downton Abbey books. Bella and Kate. Kate and Bella. From childhood they were bosom friends, Bella sensible and cautious, Kate gregarious and just a little dangerous. Yet in spite of their intimacy, their trust is fragile. Men came into their lives and things changed: a black seed was set in the heart of their relationship. Over decades, acts of both cruelty and love ferment until one shocking event tests them more than ever. Neither will escape unscathed. Reminiscent of Elena Ferrante and Sally Rooney, and for readers of Leila Slimani’s The Perfect Nanny and Ashley Audrain’s The Push, The Best Friend explores the darkest corners of female friendship, a place where loyalty and betrayal intersect with deadly consequences.

Book Unreliable Truths

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sissy Helff
  • Publisher : Rodopi
  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN : 9401208980
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Unreliable Truths written by Sissy Helff and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2013 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While many people see ‘home’ as the domestic sphere and place of belonging, it is hard to grasp its manifold implications, and even harder to provide a tidy definition of what it is. Over the past century, discussion of home and nation has been a highly complex matter, with broad political ramifications, including the realignment of nation-states and national boundaries. Against this backdrop, this book suggests that ‘home’ is constructed on the assumption that what it defines is constantly in flux and thus can never capture an objective perspective, an ultimate truth. Along these lines, Unreliable Truths offers a comparative literary approach to the construction of home and concomitant notions of uncertainty and unreliable narration in South Asian diasporic women’s literature from the UK, Australia, South Africa, the Caribbean, North America, and Canada. Writers discussed in detail include Feroza Jussawalla, Suneeta Peres da Costa, Meera Syal, Farida Karodia, Shani Mootoo, Shobha Dé, and Oonya Kempadoo. With its focus on transcultural homes, Unreliable Truths goes beyond discussions of diaspora from an established postcolonial point of view and contributes with its investigation of transcultural unreliable narration to the representation of a g/local South Asian diaspora.
