It concludes that it is imperative to sustain cultures like Bekwarra through these aspects of culture, which involves constant/sustained interest in, teaching and learning cum transmission of these invaluable aspects of culture across generations. They should be constantly preserved, and taught both at home and school.

They are principles of life and provide guidance to our daily walk in areas of relationships with other human beings, physical nature such as animals and plants, spiritual phenomena and other non-spiritual elements in the universe. Proverbs give us some encouragement and hope when we are weak and in despair and feel hopeless. They give us words of admonition, warning and redirection when we fall or derail as we journey through life. In the face of threatening life encounter, we can invoke appropriate proverb to recharge our courage, energy and strength so as to squarely confront a given situation. We can also apply a proverb and act it out to get the best out of a pleasant or ugly situation. Even when we are ambivalent about a certain experience, there is always a word of wisdom to invoke and act accordingly to achieve the expected outcome. We can confidently use these wise sayings only if we know and understand their meanings. It is even better if we know their origins. Otherwise, the proverb can confuse us the more and understanding the message they intended to convey can also elude us. These African-Ibibio proverbs depict how observant our ancestors were about nature, and their knowledge of and closeness to it. Our great grandparents used the proverbs effectively and appropriately because they knew their meanings. Using them did not only save their energy but provided vividness, brevity and force to the idea or thought they attempted to articulate. They were able to transmit this wisdom from generation to generation through oral history, that is, by words of mouth, until recently. The oral method sustained us for so long partly because in the past, children and grandchildren stuck around their parents and grandparents long enough to learn from them. Another reason is that the younger generations were also interested in learning them. At the time, using a lot of proverbs in one's speeches in social meetings and in private conversations was an index of high intelligence and wisdom, and the speaker was held in high esteem in the community. It was a source of pride and honor for and conferred dignity on the speaker as well. This work comes out of my concern that this oral method may at some point in history cease to be as effective as before in passing these words of wisdom on to future generations of Ibibio sons and daughters. If these wise sayings continue to remain unwritten, the possibility of losing this aspect of our knowledge history is imminent. Here are some of my reasons for thinking this way: (1) Present day youth leave their parent's home to pursue their education and then to employment in cities. By so doing, the amount of time for the youth to maintain regular contact with their parents and extended family elders from whom they could have learned these wise sayings is reduced. (2) Some of them leave their country of origin at tender ages to countries with different culture, while others are born in foreign countries. In some cases, both parents and children are born outside their cultural environments. (3) If parents themselves do not know much of these wise sayings, let alone use them, they cannot offer nor transmit to their children what they do not have or know, even if the children are around them up to adulthood. (4) Many, especially among the learned, tend to lack interest in preserving even the positive aspects of their ethnic cultures, partly because they do not know or suffer from what A. J. A. Esen describes in his Ibibio Profile as "Ours-Is-Bad" and the "Foreign Is Good" syndrome. This is a psychological feeling which demeans anything pertaining to one's ethnic culture and hails what is foreign, no matter how filthy and obnoxious the latter is. It argues that these literary trajectories are poetically related. Through these oral literature forms, the ideologies of the Bamasaba people are enhanced. By studying these verbal esoteric aphorisms, the riddles, which have been relegated as children's playthings are given literary significance. Even the seemingly nosensical sound riddles project important messages to the reader, therefore worth of literary inquiry. The collection and interpretation of oral literature forms from predominantly orate societies is testimony to the notion that the libraries of society are fast passing away, and it is incumbent upon the young generation to document these verbal forms for posterity. In the discourse, an exegesis of the riddles and proverbs have been made to categorise them basing on literary features such as rhyme and rhythm, the symbolic elements, alliterations, metaphors, similies, onomatopoeiac expressions, parallelism, repetition, and rhetorical questions among other literary forms of expression. This interconnectedness points to the fluidity of oral texts to an extent that no single context is sufficient to explain their meanings. Sound riddles present a fascinating interpretation of the Bamasaba cosmology. They show that even untranslatable or nonsensical words give an insight into understanding the surrounding environment of the Bamasaba. Themes of life, ecological relationships and rain are pertinent aspects of Bamasaba’s world contained in riddles. It is established that language permeates the epicenter of riddles and proverbs. Of the literary features that imbue them, symbolism stands out as the most important feature. What is peculiar about Lumasaba riddles and proverbs is that regardless of the categorization or structure, they possess a variety of meanings that bring out core ideologies of the Bamasaba. The classification of proverbs into literal, symbolic and philosophical categories enables us to decipher the riddle in the proverb; we look for what it signifies. Harlod Garfinkel's theory of ethnomethodology has been applied to make sense of Lumasaba riddles especially the tenet of the centrality of langauge that communicates the world views and the philosophy of life of the people. Riddles are conduits of Lumasaba cultural values intended to socialize children and adults alike into useful citizens of the community.

Every culture has its own customs which may have significant influence on health and oral health. The increased incidence of lung cancer because smoking, cirrhosis because of alcoholism in many developed countries, the surge in the incidence of oral cancer in India due to pan chewing habits are some classical examples to demonstrate the influence of culture on health and oral health. It is now fairly established that the cultural factors are deeply involved in the whole way of life, like in the matters of nutrition, immunization, personal hygiene, family planning, child rearing, seeking early medical care, disposal of solid wastes and human excreta etc. All cultural practices are not harmful. Every human has the culturally ingrained habit of cleaning or brushing the teeth early in the morning. The use of soap for personal hygiene, oil massaging, exposure of the new born to sunlight etc are some cultural practices that needs to be encouraged. The inclination to get into the habits of smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction in the name of civilization among the younger generation needs to be countered at the earliest, otherwise, it may have a huge deleterious impact on the health status of the generation to come. Keeping in mind, the very significant role, the culture plays on health and oral health, this topic of library dissertation is taken up to review the available literature on effects of key cultural factors on health and oral health.

These elements also have an effect on how the reader identifies with the story and characters. So, it is important to find the most appropriate strategy to translate such elements. The objective of this paper is to find out what the most frequently used strategy in translation of culture-specific items in children’s literature is. To this end, Venuti’s (1995) model of domestication and foreignization strategies was adopted as the framework. The culture-bound terms were classified based on Toponyms, Anthroponyms, Means of transportation, Date, Food and Drink, Idioms, Measuring system, Scholastic reference. In the process of tracking down the culture-specific items the model proposed by Pedersen (2005) has been used. To collect and analyze the data, first, the researcher compared ten successive pages, selected randomly, of each of the selected English children’s stories (Daddy long legs by Jean Webster, Anne- of- Green-Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, and The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain) with their Persian translation to identify culture-specific items. Next, the strategies used by the translator were identified and their frequency was calculated. The results, then, were presented in some tables. According to the obtained results, although both domesticating and foreignizing strategies have been used, foreignization has been the most dominant cultural translation strategy in children’s literature.

The task is for those who are computer literate among them to effectively utilise and harness their acquired knowledge in this area, teach others and bring every bit about Bekwarra to limelight through ICT cum social media. This gesture will catapult Bekwarra to the apex of all-round development, situating her rightly in the global village to share equal/some place with other cultures that have attained such height. To effect and realise the desired change, re-orientation, sensitisation, mass literacy and attitudinal change are the first requisites, followed by effective utilisation of ICT. This task lies more with the Bekwarra youths, elite, technicians/technologists (ICT professionals) and government, while the non-Bekwarra people and Cross River State and Federal governments with such capacities and resources owe her worthwhile supports.
