Book Behold Life Beyond Grief

Download or read book Behold Life Beyond Grief written by Lilian Santini and published by Lilian Santini. This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behold is a book about infertility, failed adoptions, and self acceptance. I know firsthand the anguish of infertility and failed adoptions, and the feelings of despair and isolation that come with them. It's a difficult road to walk, but I promise you, there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. For years, I battled with the frustration and disappointment of not being able to conceive or adopt a child. It felt like everyone else around me was succeeding where I was failing, and I couldn't shake the sense of inadequacy and despair that haunted me. In my darkest moments, I made a choice that changed everything: I decided to stop blaming myself and start loving myself for who I am. I realized that I am enough, just as I am, and that my worth as a person does not depend on my ability to have children. That's when Behold began to take shape. I turned to artificial intelligence to help me illustrate my experiences, and in the process, my emotions also took form in short, powerful poems. I knew that by sharing my journey and my words, I could help others who are struggling to find their way through the pain of infertility and adoption. If you're on a similar journey, please know that you are not alone. It's okay to grieve, to feel angry, to feel lost. And it's also okay to love yourself, to honor your story, and to find hope for the future. I wrote Behold with the hope that it will give you permission to do just that.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life Beyond Grief ... Remembering God's Promises, is based on the grief I experienced while mourning the loss of three dear family members who passed away within months of each other. First, my oldest brother, a dreamer with a kind heart, passed away. Exactly three months later, my father, who believed in "just being fair" and gave of his time, talent and treasures, passed. Finally, one month later, my sister and the youngest in the family, the one who believed in turning lemons into lemonade and encouraging others, took her last breath. Although the healthcare providers temporarily resuscitated her, she was officially declared dead the next day. Her death occurred 31 days after my father's. Join my husband, Charles, and I as we walk you through 'some' of the darkest years and months of our lives. Our transparency is obvious as we share events that occurred from Saturday, April 30, 2016, to Ash Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Although this timeframe presented moments of joy, achievement, and exhilarating experiences, it also gave us events that were challenging, devastating and painful. You will read vulnerable, personal accounts and the negative impacts that grief inflicted on my life. Throughout the book, we provide answers to questions that you may have regarding your loved ones. Questions such as: How do I get past the emptiness when my family member's physical presence is no longer here? How do I get my flesh to cope? Where should I place my hope and trust? How long should my period of bereavement last? At what point should I say that I understand, even if I don't? At what point should I seek professional counseling? Download or read book Ambiguous Loss written by Pauline BOSS and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a loved one dies we mourn our loss. We take comfort in the rituals that mark the passing, and we turn to those around us for support. But what happens when there is no closure, when a family member or a friend who may be still alive is lost to us nonetheless? How, for example, does the mother whose soldier son is missing in action, or the family of an Alzheimer's patient who is suffering from severe dementia, deal with the uncertainty surrounding this kind of loss? In this sensitive and lucid account, Pauline Boss explains that, all too often, those confronted with such ambiguous loss fluctuate between hope and hopelessness. Suffered too long, these emotions can deaden feeling and make it impossible for people to move on with their lives. Yet the central message of this book is that they can move on. Drawing on her research and clinical experience, Boss suggests strategies that can cushion the pain and help families come to terms with their grief. Her work features the heartening narratives of those who cope with ambiguous loss and manage to leave their sadness behind, including those who have lost family members to divorce, immigration, adoption, chronic mental illness, and brain injury. With its message of hope, this eloquent book offers guidance and understanding to those struggling to regain their lives. Table of Contents: 1. Frozen Grief 2. Leaving without Goodbye 3. Goodbye without Leaving 4. Mixed Emotions 5. Ups and Downs 6. The Family Gamble 7. The Turning Point 8. Making Sense out of Ambiguity 9. The Benefit of a Doubt Notes Acknowledgments Reviews of this book: You will find yourself thinking about the issues discussed in this book long after you put it down and perhaps wishing you had extra copies for friends and family members who might benefit from knowing that their sorrows are not unique...This book's value lies in its giving a name to a force many of us will confront--sadly, more than once--and providing personal stories based on 20 years of interviews and research. --Pamela Gerhardt, Washington Post Reviews of this book: A compassionate exploration of the effects of ambiguous loss and how those experiencing it handle this most devastating of losses ... Boss's approach is to encourage families to talk together, to reach a consensus about how to mourn that which has been lost and how to celebrate that which remains. Her simple stories of families doing just that contain lessons for all. Insightful, practical, and refreshingly free of psychobabble. --Kirkus Review Reviews of this book: Engagingly written and richly rewarding, this title presents what Boss has learned from many years of treating individuals and families suffering from uncertain or incomplete loss...The obvious depth of the author's understanding of sufferers of ambiguous loss and the facility with which she communicates that understanding make this a book to be recommended. --R. R. Cornellius, Choice Reviews of this book: Written for a wide readership, the concepts of ambiguous loss take immediate form through the many provocative examples and stories Boss includes, All readers will find stories with which they will relate...Sensitive, grounded and practical, this book should, in my estimation, be required reading for family practitioners. --Ted Bowman, Family Forum Reviews of this book: Dr. Boss describes [the] all-too-common phenomenon [of unresolved grief] as resulting from either of two circumstances: when the lost person is still physically present but emotionally absent or when the lost person is physically absent but still emotionally present. In addition to senility, physical presence but psychological absence may result, for example, when a person is suffering from a serious mental disorder like schizophrenia or depression or debilitating neurological damage from an accident or severe stroke, when a person abuses drugs or alcohol, when a child is autistic or when a spouse is a workaholic who is not really 'there' even when he or she is at home...Cases of physical absence with continuing psychological presence typically occur when a soldier is missing in action, when a child disappears and is not found, when a former lover or spouse is still very much missed, when a child 'loses' a parent to divorce or when people are separated from their loved ones by immigration...Professionals familiar with Dr. Boss's work emphasised that people suffering from ambiguous loss were not mentally ill, but were just stuck and needed help getting past the barrier or unresolved grief so that they could get on with their lives. --Asian Age Combining her talents as a compassionate family therapist and a creative researcher, Pauline Boss eloquently shows the many and complex ways that people can cope with the inevitable losses in contemporary family life. A wise book, and certain to become a classic. --Constance R. Ahrons, author of The Good Divorce A powerful and healing book. Families experiencing ambiguous loss will find strategies for seeing what aspects of their loved ones remain, and for understanding and grieving what they have lost. Pauline Boss offers us both insight and clarity. --Kathy Weingarten, Ph.D, The Family Institute of Cambridge, Harvard Medical School

Book The Smell of Rain on Dust

Download or read book The Smell of Rain on Dust written by Martín Prechtel and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Beautifully written and wise … [Martin Prechtel] offers stories that are precious and life-sustaining. Read carefully, and listen deeply."—Mary Oliver, National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Inspiring hope, solace, and courage in living through our losses, author Martín Prechtel, trained in the Tzutujil Maya shamanic tradition, shares profound insights on the relationship between grief and praise in our culture--how the inability that many of us have to grieve and weep properly for the dead is deeply linked with the inability to give praise for living. In modern society, grief is something that we usually experience in private, alone, and without the support of a community. Yet, as Prechtel says, "Grief expressed out loud for someone we have lost, or a country or home we have lost, is in itself the greatest praise we could ever give them. Grief is praise, because it is the natural way love honors what it misses." Prechtel explains that the unexpressed grief prevalent in our society today is the reason for many of the social, cultural, and individual maladies that we are currently experiencing. According to Prechtel, "When you have two centuries of people who have not properly grieved the things that they have lost, the grief shows up as ghosts that inhabit their grandchildren." These "ghosts," he says, can also manifest as disease in the form of tumors, which the Maya refer to as "solidified tears," or in the form of behavioral issues and depression. He goes on to show how this collective, unexpressed energy is the long-held grief of our ancestors manifesting itself, and the work that can be done to liberate this energy so we can heal from the trauma of loss, war, and suffering. At base, this "little book," as the author calls it, can be seen as a companion of encouragement, a little extra light for those deep and noble parts in all of us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Something we never imagined. We did not see it coming, and we wrestle daily to erase the stain of tragedy from our minds, to heal and hold on to to our mental health and sense of sanity. Losing a loved one is oftentimes painful enough even when expected or accepted under normal circumstances. But tragedy is mentally brutal, a sting of unrest rattling through the corridors of our consciousness replaying the how and the loss of our dear beloved. Beyond grief there is a pathway to mental, spiritual, and heart healing, and to live, we must get to the otherside. Finding peace and power beyond grief is a process we must embrace, a journey we must take, and a terrain we must tread to come into healing from tragedy and loss. Whenever I looked at you (Daniel), talked with you, laughed with you, and even hugged you, I saw a lifetime. I never imagined you would be gone or that a lifetime would end so soon. If only I could have known, we could have talked more, laughed more, hugged more. I could have expressed more how much I appreciated you and told you how much I was proud of you and just how much I loved you. But the truth is, no matter how much more or how long, I still would not have been ready to let go of you. How do you prepare for something like this? And now, we must learn to live with and live through what we were never prepared or ready for. For a while, I wrestled about feeling like I was moving on without you. Now, I realize I take you with me in spirit and in my heart everywhere I go, and we go on together! I love you!
